I have removed the deprecated (abstract-algebra) tag from: Normal closure and separable elements. However, I am not sure which top-level tag to use for questions about fields.

Q: Normal closure and separable elements

Lao-tzuLet $K\subset E\subset\bar{K}$ be field extensions, $\bar{K}$ an algebraic closure of $K$. Denote $E_s$ the field of separable elements of $E$ over $K$, denote $\tilde{E}\subset\bar{K}$ the normal closure of $E/K$ (the minimal subfield of $\bar{K}$ which contains $E$ and is normal over $K$). Is i...

Would be a reasonable top-level tag for fields, Galois theory, finite fields and similar areas?

I supose this might be one of the questions where it might be difficult to choose what to replace a deprecated tag with. OTOH the question is closed, so that is probably less of an issue: Textbook suggestion for advanced algebra?

Q: Textbook suggestion for advanced algebra?

KeithAfter having a solid year long undergraduate course in abstract algebra, I'm interested in learning algebra at a more advanced level, especially in the context of category theory. I've done some research, and from what I've read, it seems that using Lang as a main text and Hungerford as a supple...
