Regarding search, I'd guess that it might improve search - I can quite easily imagine that somebody searches for $x\le 1+x^2$ without noticing that they would get more results from $2x\le 1+x^2$.
I would be hesitant to delete a duplicate, if the wording is sufficiently different to improve possibilities of searching. Sometimes duplicates can be useful..
improve I have also tried to edit Minimize $a+b+c+d$ given $\text{LCM}(a,b,c,d)=1000$ - this question cause some heated debate recently. I wonder whether the version after my edit would already be considered as having sufficient context.
An advantage to use the same tags as in SOCVR would be also the fact that tags in this room have been used mainly as a tool when searching for past post about specific things such as improve, re-open (or reopen), ...
In this specific case - the question 3020916 Tricky real integral: $\int_0^{2 \pi} e^{\cos(2 t)} \cos(\sin(2 t)) =2\pi$ - I have to say that I like that question. So if it gets closed, I would definitely prefer working with the OP on ways to improve the question (assuming I have time to do so) rather than deleting it.
@quid So maybe I misinterpreted your answer posted here (the most recent discussion no meta about this topic that I found): Editing someone else's question to add context. "To edit posts to improve them is appropriate. However, one should make sure to respect the author's intent." I took it to mean that adding context by others than OP is frowned upon.
I use this sometimes when I want to improve some older posts, but I want to check first whether many old posts has been bumped recently. (If yes, then I should probably not add more of them.)
Maybe somebody who know more about SQL can suggest how to improve these queries and whether it is possible to search for an exact phrase. (For example, if I want to find comments containing "jury duty" or "c.r.u.d.e".)
@Widawensen The question you mentioned was closed for missing context. You can see this in the banner saying: "This question is missing context or other details: Please improve the question by providing additional context, ..."
Maybe the OP of the question on meta would have more positive view on "this awful crude room" after seeing that people who come here also try to improve questions when possible.
I don't think that editing deleted questions is against the rules. (In fact, if somebody wants a post to be undeleted and reopened, trying to improve it via edits is a reasonable thing to do.)
duplicatesimprove It seems that there are several questions about the fact that $A^2=I$ implies that sume of ranks of $A+I$ and $A-I$ is $n$. (I will post the one I found below.) It would be nice to choose the best duplicate target (and, if needed, improve it so that it is not closed for lack of context.)
@AndrejBauer Perhaps if you could edit the question to add a few words explaining why the question can be considered interesting, that might improve the chance of getting reopened. I have tried to find some support for reopening the post also elsewhere - we will see how this turns out in the end. (Needless to say, I am not that surprised that question containing two sentences with no motivation at all got closed.) — Martin Sleziak57 secs ago
I have also asked Andrej Bauer whether he could improve the question bit. (If you look at the comments, he mentioned that he would like to see the question reopened so that he can post an answer.)
I honestly think that the question is useful (and so are the answers posted there) and I did my best to improve the question. (I guess that it might be one of the factors which lead to question getting in the reopen queue). It is obvious that several other users in this room have different opinion and think that this question should be closed and deleted. Of course, if you think that it's the thing to do, you can go ahead and start the next round.
In fact, if a question is reopened, removing stars might be a reasonable option - after mutual agreement. (If it is reopened, my suggestion to improve is no longer needed. Your message was changed from pin to star due to age - so if you still think it should be closed and deleted, you can post a new message and it could be pinned and thus better visible.)
At least it shows that there is some diversity to this room - two opposing suggestions are now among starred posts; one to delete the post, another one to improve the post so that it meets the site standards.
Of course, I agree that this might be subjective. But if you look at some past questions where I suggested to edit/improve them you can see that I do not choose only questions with high score.
Seeing that I wrote I did not understood rather than I did not understand cast doubts upon my language abilities mentioned in your previous message. :-) But let's hope I'll improve with practice.
If you want to see some cases where I tried to edit/improve a question (or ask for an advice how can I improve a question), you can find a few in this room.
BTW if we see that the OP has abandoned the question, then maybe the users who want the question to remain on the site can try to improve it. Quote from the above link: "A question can be justified by the fact that a good answer can be written." But it is probably too soon to consider the question already abandoned.
I am not sure whether you'll agree but would it be possible (or even reasonable) to leave the OP some time to improve post before deleting the question.
delete or improve This answer has some delete votes: [Definite integral $\int_2^{343} ({x-[x]})^2 dx $](https://math.stackexchange.com/q/2388824#2390823). I have at least edited WA links into the post, perhaps some further improvements can be done...?

Or do you think it would be better to try to improve 1569527 to get it reopened? (I can imagine adding the definition of $U^\bot$ to the post and spelling out quite clearly that we are working with inner product space.)
@Shaun I am not sure, but maybe adding some comments on where you already looked might improve your chances. (Although it was closed as too broad and not for lack of context.)
