Si jamais l'un de vous qui êtes plus sages que moi exprime un intérêt, I would be strongly in favour of an election to add another mod to avoid as many unilateral decisions as tend to be made.

In any case, LPH crap isn't going to affect in any way the election outcome.
Nov 3, 2024 22:03
i don't think this election will be as close as it appears.

@temporary_user_name I am agitated. LPH's crap agitated me and I am worried about the election. Aren't you?

Q: Is there a sizeable difference in the number of polling locations opened for early in-person voting vs election day in the US (for 2024)?

264 champagne bottles on iceAccording to one expert: With Election Day voting you likely have a polling site that is much closer to you. I've done a few minutes of googling trying to find some data to confirm this, but came up empty. So, is it true? Are there any numbers to back this up?

Q: Nominating other community members for the 2025 moderator election

Alec RheaAs covered last election, there is no formal mechanism to elect other community members as potential moderation candidates, so this post will serve as an informal version of such. If there are any users (besides yourself!) you think have the right stuff to moderate MO in the coming times, voice y...

We're sad to report that Trump is bigoting just as much after he lost his last election as he'd been prior to his stunning loss.
Nov 2, 2024 15:14
I feel like the election-denial fears might even be somewhat fabricated just to suppress voter turnout 💀
Nov 2, 2024 15:12
I'm honestly not too worried on the election-denial front, since it seems like a lot of their strategies are just 2020-on-steroids, and people are getting ready to fight back. But a straight up trump victory is decently likely IMO

Q: Why is Election Day still the most common day to vote with early voting available?

PollmanIn the US, Election Day is always on a Tuesday where most people have to work. It can be super crowded with long lines, and if something happens on that day preventing you from voting you can't vote the day after. With early voting available in most states, it should be treated as the last day yo...

Robert Francis Kennedy Jr. (born January 17, 1954), also known by his initials RFK Jr., is an American politician, environmental lawyer, anti-vaccine activist, and conspiracy theorist. He is the chairman and founder of Children's Health Defense, an anti-vaccine advocacy group that is a leading proponent of COVID-19 vaccine misinformation. He is on the ballot in some states as an independent candidate in the 2024 United States presidential election. A member of the Kennedy family, he is a son of the U.S. attorney general and senator Robert F. Kennedy, and a nephew of the U.S. president John F. Kennedy...

@Lambie Telling you whether I vote or not is not a question of courage, at least not for me; either I wish to inform you about that or I don't, and I don't, as I believe it is completely beside the point. As to calling Trump the orange man, no, this sort of vulgarity has nothing to do in my language. In fact he is the white man in this election.

It's been a week since the proposal for an RO election was posted. Currently, the proposal to move forward using the suggested mechanism is at +14/-0. Any final opposition to moving forward with it?

I said a couple of weeks ago that I think the quiet wife is skewing the polls and will ultimately win the election.
Nov 1, 2024 07:07
@User1865345 I caught a bit of Fox News guys calling it like telling wives to cheat on their hard-working husbands. Yeah whatever. Next election, controlling husbands will be wise to the privacy issue with voting booths, so we'll probably see mail-in voting becoming even more popular with the GOP.

> What Biden does have a record of doing is misspeaking, speaking unclearly and confusingly shifting course midsentence. In fact, the sharp increase in his career-long tendency to generate gaffes, due to apparent age-related decline, is a reason he’s not running for re-election. It is reasonable to assume that he didn’t mean to trash Trump supporters, and to take his immediate clarification in good faith .

Q: Why don't countries copy Estonia remote voting system, given its nearly flawless track record over 20 years?

JonathanReezEstonia has used internet voting ("I-voting") since 2005, with over 50% of voters casting their ballots online in the most recent election. It remains the only democracy in the world where the majority of voters are eligible to vote online. Additionally, Russia plans to implement it nationwide by...

"Also, please note that it's inappropriate to issue demands to academic staff regarding how we conduct our teaching work." --> Interesting take here on a consumer (student pays)/provider (gets paid) relationship. We're all adults here - yes some are fresh now ones, yet their votes, prof and my vote all count the same on election day.

Q: Is it possible for a voter to be rendered ineligible in both their prior and new states while in the process of moving?

mprIf a person moves in close proximity to the day of the election, is it possible they are rendered legally ineligible to vote in both their new and prior states of residency?

When the election is so close, it would be decided by the MAGA supreme Court. We all know what happens next.

> University of California Los Angeles law professor, Richard Hasen, wrote on the Election Law Blog that the ruling was a "bonkers opinion."

"It does show you that sometimes cases only become important when judges do things that are entirely unexpected. I guess we should expect more of that going forward," he wrote.

Hasen also noted: "Mississippi is one of several states with laws allowing mailed ballots to be counted if they are postmarked by Election Day, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. The list includes swing states such as Nevada and states such as Colorado
