in fairness to the brawlers, if I was trapped in multi hour meetings regarding button colours I might also start throwing things.

What is the country/region you are in? These things make a big difference in how these things are perceived.

Your company spends 36 people hours to discuss the color of a button? At an average cost to the company of $50 an hour, that's an 1800 dollar button. I think your company needs to rethink this strategy. Only NASA and nuclear power plants and similar sorts of entities should be doing this sort of quality control.
