The citation helper doesn't seem to be working for me. After opening the tool, entering the details in the search bar of the "Insert citation" popup window, and hitting return, I only see the search continuing indefinitely (the three sliding dots keep recurring). No suggestions show up.
There currently appear to be multiple questions regarding the existence of Banach limits (see here) on MSE and many of the current answers to these questions could be presented more clearly. For examples, see here, here and here.
It seems that the colors of the “join this room” and “view transcript” buttons on the info page of a chatroom changed, the contrast is very bad now. Can anybody else confirm this change?
I cannot tell you how many times I have closed a question and had the author of the question delete it while I am writing a comment explaining how they can improve their question in order to get it reopened.
The goal of the SE network is to help people (not persons) by constructing a repository. The SE model is not about one-on-one tutoring. The idea is to help people by providing them with an encyclopedic resource which they may consult when they have a question.
SE has upped the base number of flags everyone can cast network-wide to 100, as a response to the network-wide spam wave we're receiving. If you have the flag posts privilege, you should have 100 available to cast by default now. In addition, the maximum number of flags you can have as a result of helpful flag count + reputation is now 1000, up from 100.

We'll be deploying a new version of Chat that has significant under-the-hood changes. Ideally you won't notice anything, but just in case, here's what's happening:
Likely on Wednesday, October 23, chat.meta gets the new version. I'll be in the Tavern when I deploy the change, so if you not...
While this is not the way I wanted to announce this, it seems the cat is out of the bag. But for those who haven't noticed, as part of our Community Asks Sprint, I spent the week investigating how we might go about upgrading our MathJax version from 2.x to 3.x+, as had been requested in several p...
@FShrike right click, new tab, or you can click on the hyperlink titled "permalink" after clicking the grey area (blue for your own comments) on the left of the comment
@FShrike If you look at the permalink for a chat, there is a long string of numbers. Start a chat message with :[that number] , and the new chat will refer back to the indicated message. So, for example, my previous message links to itself.
@Joako Questions which don't meet the quality standards of the site should be closed quickly. When such questions are not closed quickly, it is often the case that someone posts a Fastest Gun in the West answer, which is later invalidated by edits to the question, which are made as the asker works to refine and specify their issue.
This item was now changed by one user to “Some users request that you disclose any involvement in the targeted thread [...], but others believe this is not necessary” with a link to a chat discussion.
The current Requests for Reopen & Undeletion Votes and its predecessors had an item “If you are involved in the thread which you post about [...], please disclose this.” This was added in July 2020, so we have that for four years now.
@MartinSleziak It's a little ironic that the dupehammer was used based on tag abstract-algebra, but then that tag was removed. I don't think the dup target selected was appropriate in this case, as it lacks any connection to the Eisenstein criterion. If I were pressed to find a better dup target I would. In any case use of the duphammer (making a unilateral decision) is worth reviewing on some time scale. Thanks for your research!
Google's link shortener "goo.gl" was disabled back in 2018, but existing links still redirect to their destination.
However, according to this Google blog, on August 25, 2025, these links will stop functioning. Doing a quick search finds 9,042 posts that use goo.gl links.
Should we begin replacin...
Introduction
As of today, June 5th, 2023, a large number of moderators, curators, contributors, and users from around Stack Overflow and the Stack Exchange network are initiating a general moderation strike. This strike is in protest of recent and upcoming changes to policy and the platform that ...
It is great that developer of MathJax explains the issue in detail, but I wonder if the questions should be closed as duplicates of one of them, instead of having three separate identical answers.
@MartinSleziak When someone deletes a bunch of their posts all at once, the mods are notified automatically, because sometimes people do that when they are ragequitting to spite the site and we can choose whether to save the content. Sometimes we suspend for this, because it generates a lot of manual work for the mods, and so that the user can cool off.
It’s that time of the year again! As we wave goodbye to last year and welcome the new one, we have a tradition of sharing moderation stats for the preceding calendar year.
As most of you here might be aware, sites on the Stack Exchange network are moderated somewhat differently to other sites on...
Are contributions from anonymous/unregistered users a problem on Math SE? I just learned that these can be disabled on a site level, this has recently been discussed on Code Review:
For details, see Sites can now request to enable a banner to warn about their policy on AI-generated content
The summary is that it is possible to have (currently) one of two banners, or no banner at all. The two banner options are:
a reminder that AI-generated[1] content is not permitted on ou...

We’ve recently run an experiment to test a banner highlighting the “AI-generated content” policy on Stack Overflow. Next week we’ll be graduating the experiment that ran on Stack Overflow, and adding functionality to allow the "AI-generated content" policy banner to be enabled on Stack Over...
For more than a decade, Imgur has provided image hosting services to Stack Exchange, but that hosting contract with Imgur comes to an end this upcoming April 2024. This April will conclude a decade-long successful relationship between Imgur and Stack, for which the whole company has been deeply ...
We noticed this recently and have been discussing it internally. We were focusing on addressing user access issues but I will check on the status of this discussion. I think one solution we had floated was to replace all of the old format URLs with the current one, which would make redirects unnecessary. At this point I hope users aren't still using the incorrect URLs. My understanding is that some variations of the redirects aren't possible (or require a lot of effort) and updating the links in bulk would likely be an easier solution. — Catija ♦3 mins ago
In 2017, all child Meta moved from meta.*.stackexchange.com to *.meta.stackexchange.com. According to Network-wide HTTPS: It's time there is an automatic redirection:
We've redirected all child meta traffic from meta.*.stackexchange.com to *.meta.stackexchange.com, and are now forcing HTTPS.

According to meta.stackexchange.com/q/292058/196432, all meta.math URLS should automatically be redirected to math.meta, but that does not work for me anymore.
I am tempted to rollback the last edit in math.stackexchange.com/posts/564740/revisions. If a question is about the specific notation $\subset \subset$ then that should not be changed, even if there is some other symbol denoting the same thing. Any opinions?
@ParamanandSingh Ever since the Monica incident, I had lost most hope that they could become better, because the longer they dig their toes into the mud, the more arrogant they become in order to 'preserve' their face. After all, if they knew best how to deal with Monica, why wouldn't they know best how to deal with a simple issue like UI redesign?
@user21820 Craziness. The highest in the hierarchy are clueless about how sites work; they rarely experience the things that actually need fixing, nor the items they think might need changing.
Before I'm to start significantly contributing and moderating again, I demand a public apology from someone within the company, one who was responsible for the policy change and/or the metrics that caused it.
I cannot get past being ridiculed to the point that they claimed that at least hundreds ...
We have reached the following conclusions during negotiations between community-selected strike representatives and representatives of Stack Exchange, Inc. This aims to address most of the concerns detailed in the strike letter, the initial strike announcement, and the conditions outlined in the ...
Reminds me of Shog9's tweet where he came out as the one who pressed the button to remove Monica's moderator status. He was falsely told that it was "extremely urgent" and that "details would be forthcoming". Jon Ericson subsequently wrote in his blog that he knew what was actually involved and would have refused to press the button had he been instructed (he happened to be out of office when the order came down). Moral of the story: don't press any buttons on the basis of mere assurances. I hope other employees see this and know what to do. — Sonic the Anonymous Hedgehog2 days ago
> [...] I was the individual who pressed the metaphorical & literal button to disable the data dump upload job. [...] Because I find that statement as both factually incorrect and targeting me specifically, I do feel the need to address that comment. [...] I have specific firsthand knowledge of the decision to disable the Data Dump, as well as some of the research that went into that decision.
> I believe that the implication made by Philippe, that the Data Dump was never going to be disabled long term, is both untrue, and damaging to my reputation as a data professional, as a dutiful employee of Stack Overflow, and as a member of this online community.
Many words have been written around the company's commitment (or perceived lack thereof) to the ongoing existence of the data dumps, the API, and the Stack Exchange Data Explorer (SEDE). Much of that text can be confusing or conflicting.
So in order to make clear the company's position, we're pub...
