I was considering nominating myself, but I determined that I wouldn't be the best person for the role (look at my stats, for example), although it has always been a dream of mine. I still hope that I can do all that I can for this community, working around my schedule of course. Although I won't be running I hope I can be an asset to this communities growth and development. I wish luck to all that are running and I hope that we can keep our core users intact regardless of the outcome.

@randal'thor Given my always-positive experiences with Doorknob, and after reading over the relevant meta posts, I find it hard to believe that this is anything but you holding a year-long grudge. I don't see moderators abusing their powers. I see moderators stepping up to lead the site through a difficult time when the community failed to reach a consensus on a tough subject repeatedly. And, I see you giving them undeserved hell for it, both there and now here.

Q: Improve election schedule with respect to the questionnaire

Martin BüttnerThe questionnaire is a great part of the election process, but during my first (first-hand) experience with an election, over on Code Golf, I've found that the timing of the questionnaire is a bit unfortunate. Others have noted that too in the election chat, so I'm quite surprised that this hasn'...

@randal'thor The point is, despite there apparently being some animosity between yourself and the Puzzling mods in the past, none of them made personal attacks on you when you were running for mod on SFF. Like Alex said, it would be appreciated if you would bury your hatchet and not do the same for Doorknob here.

@randal'thor Like Doorknob said, it is very much a "when did you stop beating your wife" question. I am sorry you feel the need to stoop to such levels as joining a site to make a personal attack on the most senior active pro-tem moderator during the site's first election.

Without procrastination, there would be no PPCG.

If you have questions about the election process itself, please ask your question on the PPCG Meta Site. Remember, folks stepping up to lead this community are committing a significant amount of their time, please keep all discourse civil and constructive.

Damn Alex has 14 upvotes. I didn't even know 14 people were on PPCG at the moment.

@randal'thor Despite your differences on Puzzling, Doorknob refrained from posting personal attacks on your Science Fiction & Fantasy moderator nomination. It seems only fair that you could grant him the same courtesy.

If I were moderator, I'd make sure my first act would be to suspend you. Good enough?

Good luck to all in the election phase tomorrow!

Obviously, even if a given voter supports the pro-tem mods, there's going to have to be a pro-tem mod that the person doesn't vote for.

@DigitalTrauma I finished reading your Q&A. I like many of your points, but of course I disagree with the gung-ho comment pruning you describe in question 4. So, I'll refrain from voting on your post. :-) (Just wanted you to know I've read it, as I do all the answers on that post.)

ProTip: Being able to say "meh" is a vital part of being a moderator.

no that'll get you disqualified immediately.

There's always hope. You could die from something else first!

@xnor I'm not sure if I've told you this before, but you're one of the most level-headed, respectful, and patient users I've met on the network, and I could easily see you with a diamond even if you decide it's not for you. :)
Mar 27, 2016 04:57
@xnor Have you considered nominating yourself?
Mar 26, 2016 20:20
@PhiNotPi Loved it.

Regardless of how you took that, tit-for-tat isn't really much of a contribution to an election discussion; I think you've said your piece, might wanna let that stand on its own.

Asking "Why should we elect you rather than one of the current mods?" is treating it like a forgone conclusion that the current mods will be re-elected, which goes against the spirit of the election. If we were just going to re-elect them, then what is the point of having an election at all?

"Do not go gentle into that good night" is a poem in the form of a villanelle, and the most famous work of British poet Dylan Thomas (1914–1953). Though first published in the journal Botteghe Oscure in 1951, it was actually written in 1947 when he was in Florence with his family. It was published, along with other stories previously written, as part of his In Country Sleep, And Other Poems in 1952. It has been suggested that it was written for Thomas' dying father, although he did not die until just before Christmas 1952. It has no title other than its first line, "Do not go gentle into that good...
