Reminder: y'all have until next Tuesday to vote. Take your time, read the answers to the questions, and think about who you want representing you.

@randal'thor Feel free to take the other side if you can find it.

all I really wanted from the election was a t-shirt. The rest sounds like it's hard work. Who'd sign up for that on purpose?

as a moderator I will petition to rename the site Science Fiction And Fantasy: Friendship is Magic.SE

I am so, SO tired of all of these posts about the SciFi election that try to pretend to not be about the SciFi election. Can SOMEONE please just make a post on Meta SciFi about the election wherein they come right out and say what they don't like about someone running, and then ask us all for a good therapist recommendation so they can get over it and we can go back to talking about whether Watership Down is on-topic or not? — Shog9 ♦ 1 min ago

bonus of nominating myself first: I got in before the trend of explaining why not to vote for me.

Jan 19, 2016 21:50
Did... You seriously post a Google doc

Jan 19, 2016 20:54
y'all so meta

Jan 19, 2016 11:54
Why should I? Without your vote, not only will my life be devoid of meaning, I'll also never win.

If you have questions about the election process itself, please ask your question on the Science Fiction & Fantasy Meta Site. Remember, folks stepping up to lead this community are committing a significant amount of their time, please keep all discourse civil and constructive.

Looks like Null and rand won.

Jan 29, 2016 21:15
so anyway. once this is over we get to move on to being overly dramatic about cooking.se, right?

Jan 29, 2016 20:44
dying is one thing. We're talking about suspensions here
3
Jan 27, 2016 01:07
Why do any of you want to be elected moderators?

@Ixrec TBF, his answer was the only one that was apparently possibly fudging the truth. even now, the answer is very politician like. "i've never been suspended on this stack". and the explanation of the suspensions on the other stack make it sound like they were minor infractions and what he did was very innocuous, and barely his fault at all. i don't know details, but i seem to recall hearing the suspension was for a year,

@Mithrandir you should probably stop, if you're serious about wanting to be a mod.
3
Jan 25, 2016 00:04
@Mithrandir You keep telling people not to vote for you ... you do know you can withdraw your nomination in the next 20 hours? :-)

Jan 24, 2016 20:04
@Mithrandir Hey, we're busy chatting, I can't clear flags now! :p

@Keen in this case, the question regards a candidate... I think it's fair, although of course he's free not to answer.
3
Jan 19, 2016 22:35
I don't really like eggs. For the record.
3
Jan 19, 2016 21:58
Nominations are not your soapbox, @SS-3. You can provide questions to or commentary on the nominees, but you can't just sit there and expound on your philosophy of life and why Mike sucks eggs.

I hope all the old moderators will be satisfied with the choices, so they can moderate together in peace.

I hole punched my monitor for my votes.
2
Feb 2, 2016 19:58
Then I mailed the monitor in as an absentee ballot.

Come to think of it, I should nominate myself for every site election.

Feb 1, 2016 23:39
I think Clippy should pop up on the election page. "It looks like you're trying to vote for a mod. Do you want any help?"
2
Feb 1, 2016 23:36
@randal'thor Thaddeus is voter number 555.

Feb 1, 2016 23:30
Hated all the candidates?

Hello,

There is a realistic chance that rand al'thor will be elected moderator of Science Fiction & Fantasy, a position of responsibility for which he is clearly not fit.

On Puzzling, I had the misfortune of witnessing rand al'thor's behavior. Not only was he part of a clique who bullied the people who disagreed with them off the site, but he was a specialist of using underhanded tactics and being two-faced — looking good in one venue while pouring out hate in another. That second aspect is what concerns me.

Jan 29, 2016 21:16
Anyway, I honestly believe that everyone running could make a good moderator. I hope y'all think less about disaster and focus more on who is best prepared to make the changes in their participation required to moderate effectively.
2
Jan 28, 2016 04:38
But yeah, the only downside of having Null and Jason as mods is that y'all will still have to put up with Mike in chat.
2
Jan 27, 2016 21:27
@Null DVK has been whining against the mods, or anybody who'd disagree with him, since forever. Richard is just bitter. You can safely discount these as honest sources.

"Is this on topic? All the rabbits talk."
"But that's just normal for that world, that's not fantasy!"
"Talking animals aren't fantasy?"
"No, not if thats just normal for the world!"
"Guys. that one rabbit is psychic."
"Oh. Ok then, on-topic."

Q: As a moderator, what is your position on migrating questions?
2
Jan 27, 2016 15:42
and, without naming names, some of the "high rep users that are leaving" seem to still be here and be active, so...

Jan 27, 2016 03:01
@Shog9 reminds me of a dept meeting at the school i used to teach at. we were asked what we liked most about teaching. most everyone said, "i like helping". one guy said, "i like seeing the look in their eyes when i tell them that they've just gone over their [missed attendance] hours and they've just failed the class."
2
Jan 27, 2016 01:19
@SSumner I can kinda understand that; I spend more of my time on chat and mod activities mostly because I can always do them and they take less brainpower, answering questions I can only really do after a question that I am capable of and interested in answering turns up, which is not very common
2
Jan 26, 2016 23:22
easy. suspend them all, right now, forever.
2
Jan 26, 2016 21:41
Mm, but voting is how most meta decisions are made
2
Jan 26, 2016 20:22
oh wait, that happened.

Jan 26, 2016 20:16
@phantom42 I guess my complaint would be that people who treat SE as a game where the goal is to hoard rep and badges are, IMO, the worst people to be moderators but every metric we show users would rank them at the top.
2
Jan 26, 2016 17:15
@ryan this is how it appears to me as well, but i don't have enough info to say either way conclusively. additionally, i hesitate to just say "butt out" to anyone blanketly. i dont know if some of them are also SF/F users. and much like shog chiming in with his opinions of nominees, they're honest opinions from people who are allowed to have opinions.
2
Jan 26, 2016 17:10
@phantom42 Long and short is that there's enough mud in the water that no one will ever know the truth, but from what I gathered, Rand did screw up, but the mods also overreacted and are not blameless either. Basically both sides should wash their hands of it, and the mods from Puzzling should butt out of our election.
2
Jan 26, 2016 15:28
I think there might also be some people who think he's been treated unfairly by the Puzzling mods
2
Jan 26, 2016 11:49
in any other conversation, a deflection to "i've never been suspended here" or trivialization of the other suspension would be of little importance, but i think combined during an election, feels a little dishonest, even if it's not meant to be.
2
Jan 26, 2016 11:46
@randal'thor IMO, no. really, the question is akin to asking, "have you ever been convicted of a crime", and you basically say, "well, i've never been convicted of a crime in this country!" now, what really happened to earn you the uber-long suspension, i don't know, and maybe you don't either - but as someone who doesn't know the facts, your almost trivialized description of the events doesn't sound - to me - like anything that would have earned that punishment
