what with jack always saying we're dead to him, just imagine if he got hold of the infinity gauntlet
Jan 27, 2016 20:07
@JackBNimble there's been a distinct lack of... I'll say "comradery" for lack of a better word... Among some of the most active members here lately, and I fear this election has made it more apparent. Folks seem unusually terrified of the wrong people getting their hands on a diamond.

> You had me at "you're dead to me"
Jan 27, 2016 17:45
(BTW, sharing personal information from a user's account or using it for personal business is the biggest taboo here and the primary focus of the mod agreement: if anyone elected ever does this, their moderator access gets pulled immediately without discussion or debate, and we go through the logs with a fine-toothed comb to see what else they did. Just in case anyone running was wondering how much they could get away with here.)

To much bother for a candidate mod?
Jan 27, 2016 15:16
Apart from the fact that I dispute the idea of a "high-rep user migration" in the first place, I think those few high-rep users who did leave over the past year did for various reasons.
Jan 27, 2016 15:03
@Shog9 One of the questions that didn't make the cut for the questionnaire was about what to do about the high rep users that seem to be leaving. From what I've seen, a large part of their reasons for leaving has been dissatisfaction with the current mods. I don't know the full story behind some of these incidents so I'm not taking sides, but I'm hoping these users will be more likely to work with me since I would be a new mod (especially since I've developed somewhat of a rapport with them).
Jan 27, 2016 14:16
pretty much the question that didnt make the cut: what do you actually want the diamond for that you can't already do?
Jan 27, 2016 14:14
(this question is for all nominees, not just rand)
Jan 27, 2016 01:09
I mean, I know it looks all glamorous from the outside, a non-stop party of nearly hellenistic levels of debauchery... But surely you must realize there's actually a lot of work involved.
Jan 27, 2016 00:53
but enough about spoiler markup
Jan 26, 2016 23:32
not that it isn't a valid concern or anything, but here the problem seems so small that no real solution is needed beyond being nice and posting some explanatory comments
Jan 26, 2016 23:26
Not even necessarily actually bullying, but the perception of bullying
Jan 26, 2016 23:24
@Ixrec no, because I'm not sure officially there's any way to answer that; as long as high-rep users keep doing things they should not do, the mods will keep being forced to suspend them. shrug
Jan 26, 2016 23:23
@randal'thor seems fine to me, it's not like you can upvote your own answer
Jan 26, 2016 23:22
Why do you hate Jack B Nimble?
Jan 26, 2016 21:28
@Keen I think it should definitely factor meta-participation more than it does and that has nothing to do with the fact that I have far more than any other candidate.
Jan 26, 2016 21:23
@CreationEdge Nobody denies he's an excellent answerer of questions on this site, and yes, I have learned a lot from his posts. That doesn't mean I agree with his conduct as a mod.

@MikeEdenfield Might happen again.
Jan 26, 2016 17:35
@ryan That's the other concern I have

When evaluating @randal'thor, I wonder if he's going to try to differentiate himself more from being Richard 2.0?
Jan 26, 2016 15:24
Unsurprisingly

(I didn't want to accidentally "steal" anyone's answers, so haven't read yet)
Jan 26, 2016 03:10
note: i don't need to know specifics, and i'm not asking for them. just noting that i can see how someone more invested in the event may feel like the answer was playing a bit loose.
Jan 26, 2016 02:14
No i didn't.
Jan 26, 2016 02:03
Though, rand responded very well to the comments under his actual nomination post.
Jan 26, 2016 02:00
yeah #7 if anything was a net negative; the only "interesting" response was from the one candidate who appears to be getting unfair attention for it (I'm kinda inclined to agree with Richard that it felt "vindictive")
Jan 25, 2016 21:31
Man, User1 is such a dick.
Jan 25, 2016 21:24
Seems irresponsible to do otherwise.
Jan 25, 2016 21:20
@ryan Oh great, someone is actually reading what I said.
Jan 25, 2016 20:59
I'm just surprised we haven't gotten a daily series of blog posts over the past week outlining that @JackBNimble is clearly the best mod candidate.

Jan 25, 2016 01:06
I'm not saying you should, just wondering why you don't, if you think people shouldn't vote for you.
Jan 24, 2016 18:00
Jan 24, 2016 17:06
@Mithrandir I've been meaning to ask: you don't seem to think you'd be any good at moderating; why did you run?
Jan 24, 2016 15:06
...I won't. Don't vote for me.

Not to be confused with the time after winning an election, called "champagne".
Jan 24, 2016 14:45
Above all, the most important thing about a primary is that it makes the awfully long election period much more exciting by splitting it into two periods with varied voting mechanics. I think you all underestimate how boring it is to sit there for 8 days and wait for something to happen. Two times 4 days with a milestone between is way more exciting! ;-)
Jan 24, 2016 14:03
maybe they should tweak the primary rules to say, e.g. if there are more than 12 candidates the primary narrows it down to 8.
Jan 24, 2016 13:54
@SQB it would not give extra time.
Jan 22, 2016 17:15
@Himarm I'm not your enemy nor do I have it out for you. I have a concern, which I noted. Frankly I was surprised you were bucking for Mod so quickly. I fully admit that I might be wrong, and you might be the best candidate. I don't plan on saying anything else about the issue.
Jan 22, 2016 17:12
...until just now.
Jan 22, 2016 17:10
Exactly. See it as a test for your considerateness. Now you can proof that you actually can handle well-reasoned criticism without taking it personal.
Jan 21, 2016 19:17
Don't vote for me. I'll make a horrible mod :P
Jan 21, 2016 00:51
@SSumner plenty of good candidates just means an opportunity for you to test yourself against them.
Jan 20, 2016 20:57
Great! Now alexwlchan has nominated himself too!
Jan 19, 2016 20:51
@SS-3 I tend to agree with @phantom42 here. One comment laying out your concerns with a nominee is absolutely appropriate, but a string of comments including obscure references to events that readers may not even be aware of is something else.
Jan 19, 2016 19:56
I don't think those comments are irrelevant to the election.
Jan 19, 2016 02:22
Q. Why did Kylo Ren [spoilerspoilerspoilerspoilerspoilerspoilerspoilerspoilerspoilerspoilerspoiler]?
Jan 19, 2016 02:21
that's like a full-time moderator job right there
