TIL that the generalist tag (https://sports.stackexchange.com/help/badges/15/generalist) will only be rewarded once all top 40 tags have at least 200 questions on each them (per https://stackoverflow.blog/2010/05/23/generalist-badge-implemented/). This is a hidden requirement that's no listed on the badges pages.

I was quiet disappointed to read that. The badge is the one that I've been trying to earn for a couple of years now. Currently only our top 17 questions have 200 questions. So we're looong ways away. With the new questions rate at what feels like an all time low and still thousand

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused the most significant disruption to the worldwide sporting calendar since World War II. Across the world and to varying degrees, sports events have been cancelled or postponed. The 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo were rescheduled to 2021. Spectators have no games to watch and players no games to play. Only a few countries and territories, such as Hong Kong, Turkmenistan, Belarus, and Nicaragua, have continued professional sporting matches as planned. == International multi-sport events == === Summer Olympics === The 2020 Summer Olympics and Paralympics were scheduled...

1. how do you standardise the event being taken so that it can actually be compared (distance? elevation and changes? wind direction and speed? surface type and condition?)
Jan 20, 2021 10:26
With sports where competitors aren't really facing against each other like running, why don't people just record personal bests and compare? I get that there's the competitiveness and mental aspect of sports but with running and vaulting and such, why not just record personal bests and sorta make that the official ranking? (I'm not a sports fan, just curious)

Endurance racing is even more broad, it could refer to the group of marathon and ultramarathon sports, along with Iron Man and very-long-distance events across a wide range of mixed-code competitions. It is not solely a motorsport tag either, and I see no reason to have it solely for two questions about Le Mans, which are already easily found using that specific term. I have removed it also.

Jan 16, 2021 08:54
Motorsports could be used on a very wide range of question - anything involving cars, motorbikes, powerboats, powered aircraft racing.. and since we haven't found a need for it before, and the more specific Formula 1 tag has also been used, I have deleted from the one question.

In some cases there is also overlap between answer here and some article on Wikipedia. (I guess Wikipedia interface is more suitable for lists that need regular updating.)

should be reserved for questions about FIFA itself, directly, not just things that (might) involve them or are related to the sport. Unless the question also pertains only to the World Cup and not to any other competition or to an aspect of the sport as may be played anywhere else, it should not be tagged with either. @MartinSleziak

@user685252 Tweets can be oneboxed in chat. But you have to remove that stuff at the end of the url. (In this case I changed twitter.com/NFL/status/… to twitter.com/NFL/status/955196075291303936 )

@PhilipKendall If the thread "Tagging Up: edits, synonyms, requests, and other tag-related work" is supposed to be a centralized place where tag-synonyms and tag-related issues are going to be discussed, maybe it would be a good idea to add RSS feed of that question to this room. (So that new answers are also posted here and get a bit more visibility.)

This is the first time I hear somebody saying that: "Good tagging is easy." My impression is that it is very hard to reach any kind of consensus about tags. (But I have experience mostly from Mathematics.SE which is much larger site.)

Q: Can we have a warning message on creation of new tags?

alamootI find it very easy to mistakenly make new tags by mistyping an existing tag's name. I've also had the issue where I somehow changed the very first tag in the list, when adding a tag a new tag to a question. For example here football was changed to efootball when I added the equipment tag to the ...

I only object if it's added in a completely unnatural way, like "[badminton] What are the roles of the various officials?"

Personally, I like having the sport in the title if it doesn't make the title unwieldy. I'm aware not everyone has that view though, so don't take that as "word of God" (or even an "official" statement by a moderator).

I don't think we need an extra chatroom for that. There won't be many questions or interviews anyway. Just do them in comments.

It would appear there's enough anticipated interest in moderation that an election is being put forward by SE. Is it necessary to set up a chatroom for it specifically? Given how little usage we make of The Clubhouse, it would seem better to have the interviews/interrogations in comments (or the usual overflow chats if they become a necessity, rather than pre-emptive ones).
