@NikeDattani I agree with you. The tone of that message is not appropriate for a mod and I also find the imperative mood of this message towards you borderline rude. There definitely were some unfortunate characterizations during the conversation and everyone needed to calm down, but not in a way screaming "authority".

Additionally, I find that bringing a CM here, for a matter that is relatively easy for a mod to clear up, is an overkill and another way of authority statement. I also think that this was done specifically to intimidate @C.S.Cameron (while I disagree with him on the matter), a thing that has happened quite a few times by @ThomasWard, but which has been barely noticed, since the relevant comments get deleted.

However, telling someone: "Stop voicing your opinions. By the way, your opinion is wrong because ___, but do not reply to me with your opinion" is possibly the best example of the worst moderation style.

Q: Dialling down the boilerplate

popeyThis has been bothering me for a while now, and I'm interested in hearing other people's points of view. Problem Contributors are very quick to comment with correctional boilerplate messages where a questioner makes a minor mistake. Why is this a problem It's unfriendly, and smacks of the "Well, ...

Q: GPT on the platform: Data, actions, and outcomes

PhilippeIn a meeting with some moderators last week, I committed to releasing the data sets from our initial studies around the efficacy and false positive rates of ChatGPT detectors to them. Tuesday afternoon, we did so. This post contains as much information from that discussion as we are able to share...

We are humans and we all come from different social backgrounds. We all are sensitive in some or other way. We should try our best to not hurt one's feelings. Our words can scar a person's emotional health and sometimes healing the scars seems to be a never ending journey. So please be kind to people. If you behave harsh, members of community will feel bad and might leave the site which is not at all good for the community. So please be kind to people.

Hey everyone, just a heads up: I'm considering stepping down in the near future. Obviously, I'm not around often any more, and I can't really be of any use to the site.

I'm not making this decision lightly as I still feel a "connection" to the site/community, but it's for the best.

All the best to everyone, especially my potential replacement(s).

Q: Has policy on downvotes changed?

zwetsI have been an on-and-off user of AskUbuntu for 10 years. Coming back this year I notice that the majority of questions on the front page have a -1, often already within the hour after they are asked. In my recollection this wasn't the case before. Downvoting wasn't something to do lightly, and...

Q: Organising "classrooms" for 10th birthday celebrations

ZannaThis follows up on How should we celebrate 10 years of Ask Ubuntu?. The answer by jokerdino suggesting Ask Ubuntu Classrooms was very popular so this post is an attempt to start organising it. I will also try to post about making a banner or other means of notifying people about events. The idea...
