Q: More Network Sites to See Advertising Test

CarotWe’ve been exploring the concept of using open auction to manage advertising on some Stack Exchange sites. Under this model, advertisers (who have been organized into categories based on their products) “bid” for an advertising spot. There is a floor price - a minimum price for the spot, and all ...

Q: Searching user in SE Math not displayed

NarasimhamCan you please help finding User Yves Daoust ? I had followed his posts earlier, cannot find him now. Thanks

Hi @MartinSleziak! I was wondering if you know a tool which can convert math screenshots to latex code.. I see that there are a lot of questions on MSE on this but which one is currently in use and in a working condition ? I am trying other than Mathpix
Nov 23, 2023 09:10
@MartinSleziak I made a post on Mathematics Meta for this, incorporating the info in your comments.

Q: Update the Help Center article on searching to mention the in:saves operator in place of the inbookmarks:mine operator

The AmplitwistThe Help Center article titled "How do I search?" needs to be updated to mention the in:saves operator in place of the deprecated inbookmarks:mine operator. After "bookmarks" changed to "saves" (cf. Bookmarks have evolved into Saves on Meta SE), the Help Center article on searching was updated ev...

I haven't checked any other Help Center articles. Just mentioning this here as a post-it note (and also because I think it might be of interest to you, @MartinSleziak). Since we let our room on the Meta SE chatserver freeze, I thought this was the next best option to post such a message that doesn't quite fit into any of the other rooms.
Nov 22, 2023 10:50
The Help Center article "How do I search?" on Meta SE has been updated after the bookmarks -> saves change to mention the in:saves operator in place of the inbookmarks:mine operator. But the update is not made on the corresponding article on Mathematics SE.
Nov 9, 2023 07:22
So there are at least three bots used to keep rooms from freezing: Generic Bot, sloshy and Toasty.

Q: An example of a generative AI tool: Creating better question titles

PhilippeWith all the conversation around generative AI and our early explorations into it, I thought it might be useful to post some screenshots that show examples of the type of early experiments that we’re considering as a technological set of solutions to address long-standing challenges we’ve had on ...

@MartinSleziak These are probably legacy pages that used jsMath, a predecessor to MathJax. While broken as links, that MO url gave me enough information to find the current PlanetMath equivalent, a Lebesgue measurable but non-Borel set.

Indeed, when I did the same experiment now, MathJax isn't rendered.
Jan 29, 2023 15:24
@MartinSleziak thanks, I wasn't aware. I hope they'll fix the redirect soon, that means I don't need to change anything to my script :)
Dec 20, 2022 08:13
So the current limitations of private notes are: max. 500 character, no MarkDown, no MathJax.
Dec 5, 2022 20:56
Sorry if this is not the best place to ask you, @MartinSleziak. But I am quite curious how many regular user-created chats (ignoring chats mods have initiated, and/or discussion of questions, transferred from long threads, have been frozen/and/or deleted, since 2010? If that query is too unmanageable, feel free to narrow the span of time to the last five years. I think it's more than safe to the list might be too long to share, other than via a query link. All my regards!

Q: Temporary policy: ChatGPT is banned

MakyenUse of ChatGPT generated text for posts on Stack Overflow is temporarily banned. This is a temporary policy intended to slow down the influx of answers created with ChatGPT. What the final policy will be regarding the use of this and other similar tools is something that will need to be discussed...

Q: Could ChatGPT be a viable way to answer people's questions?

LarsenvA few days ago, OpenAI, the people that brought you GPT-3 and DALL-E, launched a new product called ChatGPT. It can answer questions so accurately that it's legitimately scary. Even the most obscure topics known to man are answered swiftly by this bot. It's not 100% accurate, but it's shockingly ...

Do you have any browser add-ons, does it happen across browsers, across computers? Which browser, which operating system? What was the phase of the moon when you first noticed the symptoms? Were you recently stung by Africanized honey bees? Most of these questions should be answered already when submitting a bug report. — Asaf Karagila ♦ Apr 2 at 7:27

 Boulevard of Broken Links

for reporting and triaging broken links on Math.SE
Apr 3, 2022 16:34
@VerónicaR.M. I was wondering where this came from. Then I realized that it's something written on my profile page.
Mar 27, 2022 16:18
Hi, Martin. I'm thinking about a chatroom for fixing broken links, maybe fed by a bot that finds Comments about them. I propose Boulevard of Broken Links (with apologies to the writers of the Green Day song of similar name).
Mar 26, 2022 14:30
Yes I'm trying to know how to cite it in a paper. I'm sorry if I failed to convey that
Mar 25, 2022 18:03
It was quite possibly a false positive.
Feb 21, 2022 04:52
This will help us figure out the number of poor (low quality) questions being answered and then we can check if such a phenomenon decreased (or not as a result of EoQS)
Feb 21, 2022 04:51
And more specifically I need the questions which were closed for lack of context. Does the sede allow filtering via "closed reason"
Feb 21, 2022 04:50
Can we get the number of questions which were closed (include deleted ones too) and had some answers?

@MartinSleziak Interesting. Also the underlying information about Jobs going away was interesting. I never engaged much on the developer jobs side of things with SO, but I did the developer survey for many years, etc.
Feb 4, 2022 15:18
Based on that one experience the Wayback machine struggles to display the archived page and then it goes blank after about a second! But yes, that was pretty obviously what was originally referenced.
Jan 16, 2022 22:41
Thanks for the notification Martin. I've reproduced the error but I don't know an easy way to fix it. It doesn't matter much anyway, so it's probably easiest to let it be.
Jan 14, 2022 17:25
That's true. There's nothing wrong with fixing things manually, it just takes more patience.
Jan 14, 2022 08:50
@MartinSleziak done, thanks
Dec 18, 2021 19:30
Thank you, Martin, for keeping track and pinging me. I think I would prefer to let my rooms freeze automatically. I shall resurrect them later (with the help of a mod) if need be. I anticipate that the nature of my participation on SE might change over the course of the next few months, and these rooms will no longer be useful for me in their current form.
Oct 18, 2021 16:36
@Math so you consider it a duty for the room owner to answer every single message that is posted in that room?
Oct 18, 2021 16:36
That does not make much sense to me.

Q: Bounty-like feature on metas

JustinSometimes on a site's meta, I want to draw more attention to a question that has been sitting in the dark. Usually when this happens, I am even willing to offer my reputation as a bounty. But metas don't allow for bounties. On main sites, we have a bounty feature to allow users to draw extra att...

The bookmarklet uses ('#post-editor #wmd-input'). What should be used for comments instead?
May 10, 2021 11:59
Here is a bookmarklet which adds text at the beginning of a post: Is there some way to include some default text quickly in a post?

@MartinSleziak yes, that is still underway. progress has been somewhat slow due to generally being busy but it's definitely still something i'm working on
Nov 26, 2020 07:40
@MartinSleziak I don't know if you have noticed my comment on your answer math.stackexchange.com/a/83179/546503. My doubt in question has been resolved and I would like to report two errors of your translation of the paper Wann sind alle stetigen Abbildungen in Y konstant?.
Nov 25, 2020 12:40
@MartinSleziak yes, you did, but thanks anyway :)
Nov 17, 2020 14:31
I've described that feature under Advanced Filter here: lackadaisical-appeal.glitch.me/feeds
Nov 17, 2020 14:22
@MartinSleziak you could also directly get a HNQ feed for just the tags you're interested in: https://lackadaisical-appeal.glitch.me/hnq/+?filter=(tags contains 'law') (I used law here because that currently (as in today) returns rows). If needed you can replace + with the site you want to focus on.
Nov 11, 2020 22:18
If you consider your answer interesting enough and if you think it is worth the effort, you might repost your answer on the new question. (The one which is not deleted.)

@MartinSleziak Hi Martin! I know you are (were?) a owner for GENTLE room. Do you know whether the room has been frozen or completely deleted? Thanks
