Based on your summary, they seem to have not been consistent with the purpose of comments. You do not appear to have been requesting clarification, making a suggestion on how to improve the post, or adding relevant information. You seem to have been expressing your own opinion, which belongs in an answer.

Q: Your new site design is live!

V2BlastAs you can see, the new design just went live! At this point, we are done with major revisions to the design (although you can still report CSS/styling bugs by starting a new post and tagging it with design and bug). Thank you for your valuable design feedback and for your patience while we got t...

Just popping in to say hello. Got through the holiday season and was just starting to pull things together when a new crisis comes up (google "Kincade Fire" — I'm safe). Even if I could bring myself to do work for SE given everything, I couldn't. Sigh. Thinking of all of you and hoping for things to resolve so we can all return at full tilt.

Regarding "thank you", the way we say "thank you" on Stack Exchange sites is by upvoting the post. There's no need (and it is not beneficial) to leave a comment saying "thank you". While you might consider such comments to be friendly, the platform considers them to be noise, much in the same way that you wouldn't post a comment on Wikipedia, under the "Talk" page, saying "thank you for this great article".
Jan 16, 2023 15:25
@WilliamMartens The option only appears if the comments section gets long enough (from memory, 10 comments is the threshold). I think it's fine to leave it as it is.

@user21820 Isn't that what you want? Would you prefer it not get deleted?
Jan 15, 2023 09:49
In general, if you see that the comments under an answer have been purged, that either means: (A) they contained nothing of substance, (B) they had degenerated into pointless bickering (which isn't productive and shouldn't happen here, except maybe in chat, if you're really dedicated), or (C) they were getting unwieldy and should be posted instead as separate answers.
Jan 15, 2023 09:47
@user21820 No, moderators regularly delete comments when the comments below an answer turn into a back-and-forth discussion. That's not what comments are for. This deletion is not "censorship", nor is it an attempt to hide the fact that you responded. In fact, a moderator posted a comment there pointing people who want to discuss further to the chat room. Clearly, you're not averse to using chat, so maybe you should try that?

So they had us raise our hands what we thought. Alex, Bernie, Casey - male, female, computer. A neat table of nine numbers on the blackboard.
Well. The general consensus had no trouble identifying the male human's answer.
The female human and the machine, though... the machine's answer got overwhelmingly voted female and vice versa.
(I'll have you know I guessed all three correctly. I was very sure which was the machine, not sure about the gender of the two humans, but I got them right too. I had a confident guess about their age, but that couldn't be confirmed.)

I recently started a new novel --my first major fiction project in over a decade --and my membership in this community was a big part of what made me want to give fiction another try. So thanks everyone! Recently, I've especially enjoyed @MarkBaker's posts which I always find valuable, even when I don't entirely agree with them.

\o y'all have a bit of a situation with tags about names. Namely, there's a tag (200 questions), a tag (4 questions), and a tag (3 questions). There's also a tag which is a synonym of . Maybe throw some more synonyms 'round?

@MartinSleziak I think that room was created so that the conversations in this room weren't being bogged down, which can't possibly happen if there's no activity in either room. (I was keeping both rooms alive for the longest time and just got lazy.) So I don't see a compelling reason to have two Writing chat rooms right now

Q: Congratulations, you're no longer in Beta!

CatijaThis site started private beta before July 2012, so it is no longer "beta", it is a full site by our definition. We've removed the word "beta" from your site banner because we believe that you aren't really a beta site any more, even if you don't get ten questions per day. What this means for ...

Q: Writing.SE clamours for graduation

GalastelWriting.SE has raised the issue of our desire to graduate a year ago Here it is: we're tired of being a beta site. Q: How can we on this site put pressure on SO/SE to carry out Monica's requests?

@forest To be honest there are a few users that I simply don't answer / comment anymore here because of exactly the problems you have described. You have met them as far as I can tell just by looking at what's left and what you wrote here. I can understand the bitter taste, but ignoring them and their unwillingness to even learn about site features is the way to go here.
