To all of the nominees:
Thank you for your nominations. Everyone of you have volunteered for a dirty job. Sure, it is a job that comes with power, but it is still a dirty job for which you get no pay or reward. Thank you for the offers of time you've made to this community, whether or not we decide to vote for you.

I will blame the lack of punchline on the very restrictive character limit.

You might have said that it was a bad user experience.

Q: 2016 Moderator Election Q&A - Questionnaire

Grace NoteIn connection with the moderator elections, we are holding a Q&A thread for the candidates. Questions collected [from an earlier thread]() have been compiled into this one, which shall now serve as the space for the candidates to provide their answers. Not every question was compiled - as noted, ...

@ardaozkal That's kind of what a nomination is saying

I sent that way too early, now I need to start retyping. The point I was going to make is you can't change the past, and there's nothing unfair about us judging you for the past, even if it happened 2 years ago. You made mistakes, and the community not trusting you is the consequences of those mistakes. The only way to regain the communities trust is by being on good behaviour for a very long time, and 3 months just isn't that long, not for the actions you took.

I'm torn between my desire to help the site and my desire to disappoint everyone.

What's with the votes on the Q&A answers? You are voting in the wrong place people!

So if you don't gain anything from becoming a mod, why would you do it? Resume builder? Feeling of importance? The drive to help Arqade be the best it can be?

Q: 2014 Community Moderator Election Results

Grace NoteArqade's 4th moderator election has come to a close, the votes have been tallied, and the 3 new moderators are: Congratulations, you three! They'll be joining our existing crew shortly — please thank them for volunteering, and share your assistance and advice with them as they learn the ro...

Instead of changing @GnomeSlice's name, we can simply turn him from an Ottawan to an Ottoman.

@Frank If a question seems obvious to you - great, help them with it. Just because it's obvious to you doesn't mean it's obvious to them.

If this were like presidential debates, I'd vote @FAE for debate moderator. She has asked good questions.

The issues here are, in my opinion, poor judgement, shortsightedness, and failure to realize when something has gone too far. I believe these are all important issues to any candidate and potential voters. I am certain the intention was perfectly innocent, but intention is not always the same as the actual effect.

Right. It's all well and good to say "I like to govern by consensus", but 'consensus' is a magical unicorn poop notion that never really appears for anything that matters; the best you can hope for is to give everyone a voice, protect the minority while allowing the majority to guide the way, and cut off discussion once it stops being constructive to start doing The Work instead of talking about it.

If the question is on topic, then why isn't it welcome?

Jan 22, 2014 18:06
It's kind of a weird situation here that once people become mods, they seem to get more quiet about their opinions on everything

@ken.ganong I guess a few were intimidated by the hard questions posed by @FAE and @FEichinger

Also I figure I'll address this before someone asks: No I haven't had a message starred 10 times in chat, and the reason for that is that I'm hardly active in chat:

1) I tend not to spend too much time idling on the site. I'll spend some time, read some posts, edit some things, respond to notifications etc etc, and close tab.
2) I'll only join chat for matters of large discussions and/or if I'm @ pinged.
3) I'm not really here for the idle banter. You are all great don't get me wrong, and it's not like I actively try to *avoid* chat , it's just not really my thing :).

I fully expect to have the largest gap of any candidate between number of first place votes and number of not on the ballots, whether I win or lose.

This means that at least one of your votes will not become a mod.
Jun 7, 2016 18:03
@Unionhawk don't get me wrong (and this goes for @wipqozn too), but i think it is naive to think that as mods you will be able to remove yourselves so easily. That diamond is always there. people will fling imaginary and real shit at you.
Jun 7, 2016 18:02
Well @GodEmperorDune lost my vote
Jun 7, 2016 18:00
@Unionhawk so you'd sneakily have another mod do it for cover? instead of saying "i banned him and we don't discuss ban circumstances in public"?
user4704
Jun 7, 2016 15:55
Sometimes doing so, particularly in more public venues (e.g., suspending a user from chat) involves that user lashing back out at you in a fashion that might hurt your feelings or otherwise make you uneasy.
Jun 7, 2016 14:51
I still want to see SMB 1-1 performance from the candidates. Something that visually tells me you get the basics of gaming.
