@Memor-X They time Winter Bash so that it corresponds to the period of lowest activity on most sites, so that they can hopefully avoid a big drop over the holidays.

It looks like I managed to time my fanatic badge on MO to fall right in the middle of Winter Bash, so I'll get the gold hat.

As for tumbleweed, I should be able to manage that one.

But there are users who I'm currently tied with and who don't have it. I'm considering attempting to deny it from them as long as possible by downvoting any new questions they post, but I think that's probably technically against the rules (and hard to pull off because I can only downvote on a few sites).

In the end, not worth it, but it's something to think about.
