If I ask for help on identifying the name of a game, do I get a ban?
Alternately, blood of your enemies jelly beans
@ruda.almeida No. Though if you ask the question on the site, it will get closed. But as you are here, ask away.
@ruda.almeida No we won't suspend for that, but we don't allow it on the main Q&A. You can freely ask in here, though.
Thanks.
We may suspend you if it's a terrible game though, so ask cautiously.

don't be mean to the new guys
@kalina Then who can I be mean to?
@RonanForman But he might not know it's a terrible game until we help him find out what game it is
It's a VERY old game (possibly 20 years or more), it's a monocromatic vertical scroller with a small shooter ship, that goes up one screen at a time, when you reach the top of the screen, or kill all the enemies on the current screen, the level changes. The name is something like "level [number]", or "stage [number]", if memory isn't failing me
@RonanForman gnomeslice, obviously
@murgatroid99 Hence the risk.

@RonanForman I should suspend you for threatening to suspend other people. insuspension.
@ruda.almeida Space invaders?
@agent86 You're suspended for causing insuspension
@RonanForman in space invaders you don't go up the screen, the enemies go down
@BenBrocka we have to go deeper
@murgatroid99 exactly

That description fits any old vertical scrolling space shooter
And there definitely are a lot of those
@YiJiang'sEvilClone I bet you are right ;___;
@YiJiang'sEvilClone I'm pretty sure that in a lot of them, the player's ship doesn't go all the way to the top of the screen (at least the ones I've seen)
@ruda.almeida what platform was this? (DOS?)
@kalina ಠ_ಠ
I do remember in one of the first levels, the enemies are bat-like (or seagull-like)
Yeah, DOS
And the name was something like level 32, or level 42, or level 54m or level whateverthenumber.
And each 5 levels or so there were no enemies and you just had to travel from bottom to top of the screen, avoiding hitting the narrow path

@ruda.almeida the name of the game?
@GnomeSlice <3
@ruda.almeida THIS sounds familiar...
@kalina </3
@GnomeSlice :(
@ruda.almeida how did you get the game? did it come in a retail box? shareware?
I was 11 or 12 and my uncle had it on his CGA-green-screen XT.
Together with Alley Cat and Arkanoid
Jan 3, 2013 17:22
Wikipedia knows of no DOS game with a name starting with the word "Level"
Maybe I'm wrong about the name, but every other thing I'm pretty sure I'm correct
@ruda.almeida Probably shareware - those are tough to find any copies or data on.
@ruda.almeida what year would this have been?
@JasonBerkan Yeah, I know, (completely unrelated to my question) I just found a CD from 1995 full of shareware yesterday and I was going to copy it, but it felt to the floor and cracked =/
@ruda.almeida actually, while I'm asking the questions, look at this list and just give me any info you've got :)
Jan 3, 2013 17:25
@agent86 Well, I played it on about 1993/94 but it could be much older
Alley Cat was from 84, and I played it the same year
@agent86 Hey, thanks for the link!
@ruda.almeida yeah, it just helps to be able to say "no games newer than 1993"
Found it on mobygames
Thank you guys
Love you guys! =) =) =)
Happy new year
Been looking for it for a whole week
<3
\o\
/o/
I'm glad you found your game
@ruda.almeida hey, congrats :)
Though, this is the perfect example of why we don't allow these questions on the main site
