Q: How do mine cart physics in Minecraft work?

Brant Assume a mine cart travels through a booster with a diagonal slope afterward. How high up will the cart travel for each tile it is boosted? For example, how long will my booster track have to be to send a cart from bedrock to cloud level? (strixvaria's answer to my previous question was informat...

@Brant It's hard to resist commenting "OVER NINE THOUSAND"
I tried to work an "assume a spherical mine cart in a vacuum" joke in there.
@Brant that question is still a dupe of the old one. Reading the body text of the two is pretty much identical.
Even though my answer to your first one didn't exactly answer your question. I don't know the answer to your real question
Yeah... I know, it's kind of dupe-y
May I change the title to "How can I build enough momentum to get a minecart from bedrock to cloud level?"
@Brant
I've used the "be bold" editing policy so far but I've been grated for that recently

@badp Even if you do that it's still the same question. "How many squares up can I go per square of booster?"
@badp: That's a good idea, I'll do it
no matter which way you twist the math
it's the same problem
hmm, yeah.
@StrixVaria You're assuming you can build a single booster sufficiently long
You can.

Going up 128 meters, I'm not so sure.
@strix Really, what I should have done is just removed the first sentence of my original question, but that would have invalidated your entire answer
There is no cap to energy, just to velocity
you maintain maximum velocity longer for a longer booster
even after going up 128 squares
as i stated in the answer to the original question that i wrote
okay, so the problem is you didn't put a formula in there :)
I don't know the formula, only that one exists
I know the properties of the formula but not the constants
@StrixVaria Extrapolate one.

Way too lazy
Okay, fuck the reputation league then. Let's see if 250 rep can unlazy you.
I'll probably come up with an answer tonight
if you do that
Done.

Q: How short can a minecart booster be while retaining its effectiveness?

Brant How many squares of "boost" does a minecart need to reach maximum momentum? How many vertical blocks can a cart climb per square of booster track, assuming the cart goes straight up after leaving the booster area?
