I get "This method requires an access_token" when calling /answers/{ids}... what's up with that?
What's in your filter?
Some of those require the token
I think it's the accepted, downvoted, and upvoted fields
Yeah, I just now realized that I marked "accepted" instead of "is_accepted"...

Nothing relevant. The API must be returning wrong quota values at times.

[ SmokeDetector ] SmokeDetector started at rev 734ca7e (Normal Human: fix word boundaries) (running on Raspberry Pi)
Restart: API quota is 4518.
I'm also considering increasing API queues for math and physics as a general quota-saving measure, in case there is indeed a reduction. Though it won't help much if we have to run for 22 hours with half the usual quota.

To be better informed, I've added the renewed quota to the "rolled over" message. We'll at least see what discrepancy caused the message to appear.
And bumped Physics to 5, Math to 15: two sites that consume a lot of API requests without much spam.

@SmokeDetector Aha! The server occasionally reports a lot less than the actual number. 9050 sounds a lot more like the true story.
So I'm not so worried about running out, although maybe we should stop flooding chat with these.

It's as if we have two different ones now, from different types of API requests.
Killing the reports is easy enough, but it'd be nice to find the cause first...

Alright, for now raising the required difference to 5000 from 1000 will fix it. The issue remains whether the lower quota will bite us.

[ SmokeDetector ] SmokeDetector started at rev 005ea7f (Normal Human: raise criterion for rollover to 5000) (running on Raspberry Pi)
Restart: API quota is 4448.
Let's see.. while the "current" was reporting 9050, 9049, 9048, 9047, 9046, 9045, the smaller numbers (from the preceding run?) were 4494, 4489, 4483, 4480, 4469, 4455.

We are taking down the Stack Overflow secondary SQL servers for hardware upgrades now. There should be no user impact.

@Sally weird. Maybe because of the server-switching. shrug
Feb 16, 2016 22:50
Restart: API quota is 9911.
It keeps happening, as you can see: 4286 is definitely wrong.
I'll try logging (locally) the quota on every response to see what's up.
Locally the numbers decrease as expected by 1 with every request. Usually

The later quote value is way higher here.
That's... really weird.
I've never seen anything like it.

Yes, now I see the same thing locally: jumping between 99xx and 98xx in response.
