12:17 AM
oooh

jrg
pushing to my device.
this is not going to end well, methinks.

I'm afraid not.
But still fun.

jrg
hey, who knows.
i might get to a terminal this way.

From what I hear... it's pretty non functional. Touch in general that is.

@mateo_salta Back now.
Were you able to get it working or is it still giving you that error?

jrg
12:19 AM
@Seth eh, i'll find out personally shortly.

@jrg Yep. Wonder if it comes with the screenshot app :P

jrg
@Seth hope it does.
OR. maybe i connect it to my bluetooth keyboard, and then
get to a tty.

What are we talking about?

jrg
getting to a terminal on ubuntu touch dev preview.

new search doesn't work well. Who gets in trouble? Me.
gah.

jrg
12:33 AM
!google site:askubuntu.com $query
but yeah, search will always suck.
it's much better - elasticsearch is pretty cool.
but it will always be terrible.

@jrg ah, good idea.

A: To which folder did I install the Faenza icon theme to?

SethGonzozo solved the problem in a comment: I found it. The hidden folder is simply home/.icons. I deleted the folders and they vanished from the menu in the screenshot above.

jrg
yay exploits. today was a busy day.

lol

jrg
so i'm tasked with teaching someone IT.

Oh fun.
What exactly do people mean by IT these days?

jrg
12:38 AM
i figured i'd toss him the debian handbook

I find it's different than I thought.

jrg
we're using it as a big ball of mud thing.

The book?

jrg
so IT = ["linux server", "email", "troubleshooting the BYOD", "windows server", "CISCO IOS", "Zentyal", "basic networking", "printers", "knowing how to google", "security", "more security", "how to make IT pay for itself, or at least let us go out for lunch for something other than pizza once a week"]
no, IT. the book is pretty cool.

I see...
Thanks ;)

jrg
12:41 AM
oh, and how to make serial > usb connectors that work with XP and older work on Ubuntu.
the is fun.
because they work out of the box.

Oh serial.

jrg
we use serial to talk to our switches. so the cisco boxes.

You actually have a serial port on your computer(s)? O_O

jrg
no, we have serial ports on our switches.
we use a USB adapter for our laptops.

oh, missed that part lol.
@GeorgeEdison Oh. I thought they started the blue in 4.1...

12:46 AM
@Seth The blue?
P.S. Airdroid is a must-have.

The blue in the notification bar/panel.

jrg
smugmug.stackexchange.com/users/361/sebastian < how did he get his rep then?

Hmm... good question.

herro arr

jrg
howdy @AbrahamVanHelpsing

12:57 AM
@jrg you didn't know that the mask is automagically granted thousands of rep by loki?

jrg
hah
should I consider doing my CCNA?

A couple of other things:
Making a kindle reader for Ubuntu should be relatively trivial given an android app exists.
There needs to be a CIV/MOM like html app

jrg
or is that too cisco-specific?
potentially, and agreed.

@jrg it didn't help me much looking for work, but people say it helps. CCNA is network implementation from a logical perspective where net+ or fundamentals of voice and data cabling satisfy the i know what a 66 block is requirements

jrg
@AbrahamVanHelpsing interesting.

1:00 AM
@GeorgeEdison Looks great so far..

jrg
so i should study the material,

something like that. CCNA covers logical not physical. the commands are going to be different, but any logical implementation is that way. say you get a juniper cert, you're still land-locked. CCNA is the biggest dog in the game so go with that.

jrg
if for no other reason than we have cisco switches, and will probably end up with a cisco router.
since zentyal is just ugh
it's great, but ugh. man.

biggest dog in fight. end. of. story.

jrg
we really want to like zentyal, it's just that it's like all the other stuff we've tried. in order to get anything worth doing, we need to spend $$$.

1:04 AM
universal fact: people have to eat and people don't donate.

jrg
which we don't have. :(
yeah, well, i know.
on the other hand, i have a potential study-buddy for that and something similar to the ethical hacker book.

i REALLY wish they did. i'ld rather just make the world a better place. and my day job is counseling people to pass those things so you have a sounding board

jrg
so that will be fun.

lemme show you guys something...

jrg
ok, i'm looking.

1:06 AM
err let me rotate that.

jrg
wat
what is that,
(rotation is ok, i just flipped my laptop)

jrg
ok, so what am i looking at here.

Android comes with dd...

jrg
i'm not entirely sure.
oh, cool!
makes sense, i guess.
a lot of things use it.

1:07 AM
not on all platforms. that's hardware specific

Just thought it was interesting...
@AbrahamVanHelpsing Oh?

Cyanogenmod 7 in my case.

Q: Create dummy file using dd on android via monkeyrunner script

Gabriel PorumbI am writing a script to automate a test: fill the internal memory of an Android device. The script is written in python and I am using monkeyrunner to connect to the device and issue commands. I need to create dummy files to do this. If I use this command: subprocess.call('adb shell dd if=/dev/...

oh, ok. stock doesn't have it.

Ah well.

1:08 AM
@Seth well there you go. find stock hardware that has dd. i dare you...

@AbrahamVanHelpsing Only have access to two Android's...
only one rooted :/

jrg
i'll look when i get back to android land
don't think my sojourn in the ubuntu touch world will last long.

Well if anyone wants the file.
Not like it will work but...

i sort of gave up on android when it was all "it's a trap!!!" that doesn't mean you actually own your hardware.

hmmm
shrug
WM device here.

1:10 AM
my marketing documentation is just like ubu-phone. buy a nexus 7 or nexus 10. vote with your wallet

meh, no ten inchers for me please.

i'm looking at the nexus ten instead of an ipad because i hate hardware lock out
if i have to depend on a jailbreak/root you're doing it wrong

@AbrahamVanHelpsing It's now illegal to root a tablet period AFAIK

it's now illegal to own a device you pay for. next they'll say it's illegal to eat food.

Agreed.

jrg
1:12 AM
it's so funny, they'll end up putting all the guys behind bars who make tablets.

so it's all really semantics. what they mean is it's illegal to sell a jailbreak

maybe, maybe.
> "There are many legitimate, non-infringing reasons why a user might choose to jailbreak or root a device," the EFF wrote in its July 2 letter. "These reasons range from installing non-infringing applications that happen to be unapproved by the device's vendor, to customizing a device's appearance, to transforming a phone into a flashlight."
Maybe it isn't as bad as I think.

jrg
> Camera, video decoding and audio output do not function.
oh man, lame.

I told you :P

One ring to rule them all. And it is the nexus family

1:15 AM
That --^

jrg
well, i'll boot, try to get a picture or two, then tweet, then flash back to android.
AHHHH YEAH! IT BOOTED!

YAY

if i get a binary app on ubu-phone to read/render amazon kindle files, i don't have a use for a kindle appliance

Pics FTW

jrg
keyboard needs work.

1:18 AM
what?
What kind of dev preview is this?
"You can look but you better not type"

everything needs work...

jrg

Looks... okay.
I judge a mobile OS by it's keyboard.
3

jrg
including the one you made that typo on.

it's missing the comma, which pisses me off on mobile keyboards

1:20 AM
@AbrahamVanHelpsing look again.
@jrg lol

@Seth i mean to say it's in the wrong place

jrg
the twitter app is the webapp
which i guess i'm ok with.

@AbrahamVanHelpsing ah OK.
@jrg I hate that... mostly.

jrg
the notes app is cool

adding two extra buttons to toggle mode is fine, but they should be outside of the V pattern
or more properly the \_/ pattern

jrg
1:23 AM
broke the lockscreen with the keyboard.

go figure.
What device is this?
I thought you had WebOS

jrg
nexus 7

jrg
my phone is a Palm Pixi+.

Ah, looks small in the picture.

1:24 AM
Aww shit, he dumped ubuphone shots

jrg
ok, i'm done. back to android

^^ the two were supposed to be linked

jrg
oh, lol

I'm trying to delete rows from 2 tables in MySQL. But I'm really stuck :(
I want to do that in a single query, but I'm forced (by now) to do that with TWO..
and I don't like that because I know that is possible =D

@Lucio Why not ask in the MySQL room?

1:38 AM
@Seth Where is it? Are you refering to this one, cause it is died

In what way is it dead?

@Seth haha, there is no user since 7 hours!

Well, true. But people will see it when they come back.

wait a minute..

That room needs some stars.

1:42 AM
@jrg You have Apache, so you have PHP, so you know MySQL, so you know the answer! =D
jk

jrg
@Lucio no.
:)

haha, I know

So...
SO has three rooms to move deleted messages to.

@Seth 2 querys by now
ok, dinner time, cya!!

Q: How to Edit PDFs?

snowguyI typically have two needs: Scenario A. Change a single PDF page. In this case I have a PDF but not the original source file used to create the PDF. I don't want to try to recreate the document from scratch. I'd like to open the PDF and change a few things. A good example of this scenario: I wa...

A: Which programs can I use to edit PDF files?

VincenzoFor PDF editing I have used a PDF Annotator flpsed . You are able to save edited files in postscript format or in PDF. Good luck

that's what i ended up using.

2:21 AM
@mateo_salta: So... basically the error is saying that CMake can't find where the Qt5 files are on your system. You can point it to them by specifying environment variables. I have Qt5 installed to /usr/local/Qt-5.0.0, so I would do something like this:
export Qt5Core_DIR=/usr/local/Qt-5.0.0
...and replace Qt5Core with Qt5Network, etc. as needed.
Hopefully that's enough to get you to a point where it compiles.
I don't think the packaging works on Mac yet (if it did, you would be able to run make package after running CMake). I haven't added the appropriate .plist file yet (or something like that).
Please let me know if you run into any further troubles - I'll be glad to help the best I can.

jrg
2:36 AM
why did centos install a gui.
i thought centos was for servers.

3:03 AM
@jrg My understanding is that it's also a desktop OS targeted toward enterprise use. I've used RHEL with a GUI on a technical workstation (such as it was) for computational purposes.

jrg
@EliahKagan thought you'd download "CentOS desktop edition" or something.

@GeorgeEdison that did the trick so cmake did it's thing, and gave me .xcodeproj files (although I think that is what I told it to make...) I'll keep you posted.

@jrg When you install it, you can choose what to install, including installing no X11 and no desktop environment, right?

jrg
nope.
at least, not in the text-based installer.

@jrg Darn. I don't know then. CentOS 6.3 does not appear to offer different ISO images for different interface options.

jrg
3:07 AM
right, 6.3 is what i had on my disk

jrg
4:04 AM
installing so many vms, just to test a stupid ldap thing. why. ugh, i dislike the enterprise.

4:52 AM
Hi

2 hours later…
6:51 AM
@mateo_salta: I updated the logo on the project page.
...and I added recognition of your logo to the about dialog.

7:05 AM
Nice.

The 64x64 version is one of the rare instances where I actually edited the image after resampling it to make the edges more distinct.
Sometimes the resampling methods in the Gimp fall short of my expectations.

That is why I prefer svg format for icons

Oh, of course.

Well, for almost anything.

But Launchpad only accepts PNG :P
...so it had to be rasterized.

7:07 AM
Of course lol

I have an SVG version of the logo.
...in fact, it should be in the repo.
Wow... it actually one-boxed :P

:D
I like how it is two arrows
The brown one is my fav though

For some reason, there is a thin sliver of white between the 'N' and the arrows.
That's only in the rasterized version.
In the original SVG itself, there is no sliver.
@RolandiXor: Here is the 192x192 version of the one you like in its full glory:
Hmm... I see that I forgot to anti-alias the edges there.

\o/
That is a masterpiece

Well, it's really mateo_salta that deserves the credit.
It's his masterpiece.
I just retraced it and tweaked the lines a bit.

7:13 AM
cool
Hey guess what? :D
I remade the TigerShark.
From scratch!

Awesome!
So did you keep the same general design or create something completely different?

The original had too many polygons, the wrong window design, and other minor niggles, so the remake is similar to it, but looks way better and more consistent with the others :)

Great!
Well, I got to head to bed now.
Goodnight.

cool
Good night :D!

A lot of sharing can happen on intranet! Other downloads are not so big!

@IgnitE Do a local speedtest

@RolandiXor You got me confused.
Ideally, more people flag the same thing and it rises up in the flag queue.
It makes it easier for us to decide on flags.

Hmm okay
I didn't realize that it did the same with dupes
