hi there, a short question:
Which hardware would you recommend for a Home-Media-Server? The problem I face is: On the one hand, it should be energy efficient, on the other it should have enough power to transcode full hd mkvs to mp4 live and without lags (streaming server) inside a virtual machine. I have a feeling that an Atom won't cut it.

Harddrives will pretty certain be WesternDigital Red with 4x3TB, so basically what I need is: CPU, PSU, Board, RAM (and maybe a tape drive!)

@Megge personal or professional? Sounds more professional - build the costings for a general processor into your budget/build and then any savings for using a newer processor will be a benefit, but don't use power consumption as a cost decider when trying to optimise virtual performance.

@Dennis disabled is not the same as the GPU not being there... if it's disabled then it's probably from the reject bin on the fab line, where they find the GPU is DOA, so instead of trashing the unit they sell it with GPU disabled
