Mm lego Batman 2.... looks like such a good game

@jrg Or I could make you a list like this? (6)

jrg
You guys are nuts — KronoS Feb 4 '11 at 0:38
that comment sums my feelings up.

@TomWijsman holy batman. That is a HUGE list.

Done some more since then, at some point later I made a word distance checker and ran them over the tags and done some more obvious ones. I think there aren't really much more tags like these on Super User.
Unless some people made a whole new set of them... :(

Do a test on AU please. Would help clean up tags <3

12:16 AM
XD

hola @JourneymanGeek

I just noticed there's an election going on ;p

yep. I got a notification and that brought me here =)

Though looking at it, i see two people at least (who i shall not name) I'd definately vote for already ;p

Just two? I already have like 5.

12:18 AM
no. 4
and one person i don't know well

well actually 4.

lol
Thats most of em! ;p
/me thinks he'll sit out this one for semi selfish reasons ;p

please don't. I already am sad I don't get enough votes. Don't make it any difficult for us voters.

But if you do persist, I won't say don't :)

12:21 AM
XD. THE PEOPLE (Person? Person alleged to be a person?) Have spoken!
naw, not quite something i want to do right now.

aww

/me was thinking next year/next election
GO AWAY ROVER, THEE THRICEDAMNED SPAWN OF CLIPPY.

Hahahaha

THE DEMONDOG THAT SCRATCHES INVISIBLY.

is apple going to release any 17" mbps in the future?
deciding if I should get one from amazon while they exist
or gamble and see if apple releases a 17" retina

12:53 AM
Hm, there's not much more than rumours and speculation on the subject >_>

hey @nhinkle

@jokerdino yo

How is it going?

Good. You?

Fine :) Thanks

12:57 AM
@user1311390: either of our resident mac users MAY have a better idea, but neither is on at the moment.

Hmm, already through my voting limit. :(

@TomWijsman The day is not even 1 hour long o.O

@jokerdino: Trying to reduce the amount of 1 reputation users. Shhh...

I think I know. You need more voters.
I do it all the time :P

1:00 AM
I should nag everyone with: Hello, I'm Tom Clippy Tom, did you already go through your daily votes & flags?

No.

Hmm... I was thinking about quoting the most important part of this link in this post but I don't know where to start; being concise isn't my thing today...

IMO...
The second method uses two openSSH parameters:
StrictHostKeyCheckin, and

UserKnownHostsFile.

This method tricks SSH by configuring it to use an empty known_hosts file, and NOT to ask you to confirm the remote host identity key.
and probably fill in what they are under it. Then describe the changes made.

Thanks Journey, I've disclaimed that I've added that but it might not be what he intended.

Its hard to tell what he intended ;p
/me hates link only posts

1:11 AM
Exactly.

Now look, I'm not naming any names, but suffice it to say that spamming us with lots of flags to up those helpful flag numbers isn't going to hurt your nomination. It's going to make the mods all not want to vote for you. Your nomination should be based on a history of being a good contributor, not a sudden spate of activity as soon as the election starts.
5
Q: Only show election statistics from BEFORE the election started, to prevent gaming the stats

nhinkleA new election started on Super User this morning. I'm already a moderator on SU, and since the election started, I've noticed a drastic uptick in flags and other activity from certain users who have nominated themselves. It seems pretty obvious to me that this surge in activity is to get those ...

@jokerdino how do you figure?

okay, I'll spam the flags for the six days and nominate on the seventh day :D
@nhinkle nanana

@jokerdino "before the election", not "before the nomination".

@jokerdino as I said, the count would stop as soon as the election starts

1:14 AM
@TomWijsman @nhinkle Actually, it's a great suggestion.

And I'm pretty sure I'm being one of the not-to-be-named. I'm showing activity for those that want to consider, not intend to game any stats...

See, you have convinced me not to be nominated :P

@jokerdino: You'd have to nominate yourself anyway ;p

@Tom I didn't have you specifically in mind, and it's something that often happens in elections not just on our site.

@JourneymanGeek Exactly.

1:16 AM
@nhinkle: Not to name any names, but another moderator does so, explicitly.

In case anybody didn't know or forgot, you can see detailed election stats at elections.stackexchange.com/#superuser

Now just need a couple more pinned messages.

lol
That word, i do not think what i think it means.

@JourneymanGeek Don't corrupt innocent souls.

By misquoting the princess bride? ;p

1:21 AM
Yes :p

ahhh
got 195 rep yesterday... drat it ;p

air conditioning?

I blame my enter key...

@jokerdino oliver's is a bit redundant, so i unpinned it. Sorry oliver

@nhinkle heh I fail at humor.

1:25 AM
I know you were joking, but it was a valid observation.
As I said @Tom, nothing I said was directed specifically at anybody, nor you in particular

@nhinkle: It's because of the negative reactions that I'm actually being more active, but the responses (not you in particular) to that aren't really helping; but well, I'll ignore it.

@TomWijsman: You do realise thats just training for being a mod right?

It's 3:27, took 10 minutes to write that sentence the way I wanted. Gonna go sleep soon...

You sooner or later get bitched out by people with no clue.
If you're unlucky, people start complaining about stuff that actually works as it should, or you can't actually change

well it is sad.

1:29 AM
@JourneymanGeek Seriously, when you're a mod it's not all flowers and smiles.

@JourneymanGeek I do, and I'm ignoring it. It's a hard hit if you compare the comment threads.

(then you quit, some idiot takes over and the whole place goes to hell, so no, not talking about SU)

@JourneymanGeek I also know that, have been through a lot of those meta posts.

@JourneymanGeek That's why democratic mod elections are nice. The community decides its leadership.
aka you get to choose your scapegoats

So, i wouldn't give a crap outside... well, actually doing what you think is right.
lol

1:33 AM
@nhinkle True, some of us poked here and there a few times already.

I feel like checking out the /review queue now.

Q: How can I email a 750GB file by tomorrow?

altrierThis is a huge DVD file that I need to deliver digitally to a distributor in another country. Is it even possible to send such huge files? I can't think of a service that will handle files this big.

^ That's a bold task. Sending 750GB over the Internet quickly.

o0

whistles

Downloading 750GB takes forever.

1:35 AM
DVD :O

TIL DVD's can hold up to 750GB

Oooh. I want a DVD that can store 750GB
@iglvzx Beat me to it

@Paul :P

Inserting random non-sense...
Someone should edit this gif and replace it with "vote".

@TomWijsman You really do like Miss Swift, don't you?

1:40 AM
lol

@TomWijsman Too bad now.
I have chosen my candidates =)

@jokerdino, how can you vote in the primary now?

What? I have enough rep to vote.

I can't find the option now...

I am confuzzled.

1:44 AM
@iglvzx You're confusing me with someone else...
Sep 15 '11 at 9:04, by tombull89
Now, Taylor Swift I've got a bit more time for...

Vote in the primary in the next week.

Although... Now you know where the quote is from.
It's getting late.

Good night @TomWijsman
@soandos It is nomination phase right now. You can vote for the actual election in two weeks' time.

@jokerdino, thats what I thought

Oh, "I have chosen my candidates =)" meaning I have mentally decided on who to vote for.
Obviously, today is not the best day for me. I can't properly articulate my thoughts :/

1:49 AM
;p
I'm not sure. Actually i need to read up on the election process
I don't think i voted in the last one

heh
i know the process quite well.
on other news, Chinese company sues Apple over Siri.

A: How can I email a 750GB file by tomorrow?

Tom WijsmanUnless you have both you and your recipient, and all the hubs in between have a collection like this. Which makes it take about ~6000 seconds, which is about 100 minutes. I'm afraid it's going to take a very long time. Even if you are one of our top 3 users (not me), you would have a conne...

@jokerdino: might be cause apple paid off the company that made a imac clone called the ipad ;p

I think it's time for...
The Sandman is a mythical character in Northern European folklore who brings good dreams by sprinkling magical sand onto the eyes of children while they sleep at night. Representation in traditional folklore Traditionally he is a character in many children's stories, invoked to lull children to sleep. He is said to sprinkle sand or dust on or into the eyes of the child at night to bring on dreams and sleep. I don't see how apple can appeal that without looking stupid ;p

What the fuck. That nutty lawyer guy really upped the crazy this time... arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2012/07/…

@nhinkle WHAT. THE. FUCK. The guy has so much pride that he just won't give up. I can't wait for him to be disbarred and lose his ability to be a lawyer.

It's disbarred, not barred, but yes. I agree.

2:10 AM
@nhinkle Thanks.

Can someone please tell me why random closed superuser.com/questions/446909/… ?
If the community felt like closing it, there were lots of high rep members floating around, and yet not one cast a vote...

Too much to be a troll.

@soandos I helped your answer out.

@soandos: The only thing I can make out of it is "polling"

@TomWijsman, I don't think he was polling, he was looking for a solution, and @iglvzx, thanks

2:15 AM
But indeed, I feel like we should cast reopen votes together.
@soandos: Everyone that polls is looking for a solution, it's free for interpretation to some extent. But I agree with you on this one.

@TomWijsman It would be nice for the OP to get back to us. But then again, we all kind of swarmed the question real quick.

@TomWijsman, it just seems that he just acted on his own, and that seems strange

He is random. That should suffice.

needs two moar ;p

Still...

2:17 AM
it happens

@jokerdino That would be funny, coming up out three options that seem reasonable and picking one at random. And have an explanation ready for all three of them... :D

:D

@Tom I thought you went to bed? :P

@nhinkle Uhm no, I stated that it's getting late mulitple times.

@nhinkle he is sitting on top of his bed.

2:19 AM
@jokerdino No, still downstairs.

LOL

@TomWijsman orly?
Then you should get to your bed.

And continue from there? like a true SUer

Yeah :D
Oliver does it all the time

I know... SQL looks so attractive late at night, the true power of querying.

2:22 AM
o.O

Oh no, don't read it like that, don't make SQL sad.
Fine, I'll go upstairs. I don't know if I'll be back again...
By the way, congratz on reopening.

lol
I'm sitting on my bed right now actually
since my chair is covered in books

@JourneymanGeek must... not... reference... earlier duplicates
Ah, sending private messages to JG (and diamond lurkers), how handy.

hehe

I'm halfway upstairs now. Oh wait, that's impossible, my laptop doesn't have a battery.
Hmm, you know those stairs chairs, would be handy if one had a power outlet; just for this occasion; and no, I don't have a stairs chair.

2:34 AM
@TomWijsman: You have until the next election to work out how to do that ;)

@JourneymanGeek: Mobile phone. :)

Hmm weird, docs.google.com doesn't work, had to view-source it and figure out that docs.google.com/document/create is the link to create a new document.

3:12 AM
My thoughts atm: Hmm, does Dear sound too personal? It would help cutting another character.

Oh my, you can actually retrieve the password; thought it would be unanswerable when I read the title.
@soandos: Hmm, I don't think it falls under the new proposed FAQ and the current one is still in place, so yeah, slow migration to Android.SE perhaps.
(given the android specific advice)

@TomWijsman, to be honest, I have no idea how I saw that question. I think I found it on the front page (for new questions) but its not new...
Never mind, community bump

Go back in history? @soandos
Ah, community is always good at helping clean the site. :)

3:37 AM
looks OT to me
OTOH, if it was windows, i'm sure it would be a dupe
(or something i know the answer to ;p)

@JourneymanGeek I know it too: superuser.com/a/422678/100787
:P

TIL Oh, finding the wireless network password works on Windows as well.

@iglvzx Here, have an upvote :P

Now we need a Linux version. :D

@jokerdino Why, thank you, kind sir.

3:41 AM
ehehe

@TomWijsman Go and make a community faq. "How to recover/find a stored wireless password" :)

@iglvzx: Can't on Linux, though.
And hmm, TamperMonkey was acting up apparently. (disallowing docs.google, slow browser start, ...)

@iglvzx why don't you have 10k already? This anomaly should be fixed.

@iglvzx Hmm, wondering about cutting that as well. Only 800 more characters to go...

@jokerdino It's been a slow week.
@TomWijsman Wow. That doesn't even look like much. 1200 characters is too little as a maximum

3:52 AM
@iglvzx You'll get there eventually.

@iglvzx: Go look at the nominations of last year, figure out all of them in 1200; that's why I went in kernel panic at first, but well, on the other hand keeping it short helps people skim it.
1922, dropping a 100 every few minutes.
@iglvzx: Without the URLs / syntax it's only 1480.

Fun

If you ever need 25% of a long computer book, feel free to hire me...

@TomWijsman The Bible: Condensed

First there was God, then there was the rest. The end...

4:01 AM
@TomWijsman TL;DR

Why am I nominating anyway... It'll only last till 21 December 2012.
@iglvzx I really feel like removing all the spaces, as that'll cut another 250.

@TomWijsman The PNG idea is starting to look better and better.

Haha, like a sentence in the middle, nobody will notice. <_<

@TomWijsman Remove apostrophes

But then: Why o why is this link not clickable... :(
@iglvzx Apowhat, where?
s/and/&/g, 11 occurences, 22 characters, hmm...
Isn't there like an unicode character that'll print and?
Oh wait, st& is a bad idea; h&ler as well.

4:10 AM
@TomWijsman LOL "Cya L8r"

@iglvzx That'll drop a ton of votes.
hmm...

You can do it!

Can't pass question ids to that though

@iglvzx that wouldn't be too acurate :P
@TomWijsman you need smaller text. too bad you can't do that

@studiohack No, syntax / URLs count towards the character limit.

4:19 AM
@TomWijsman oh, I didn't think of that

Cutting the community FAQs, will spare out some more. But still, I'm not there yet.

Anyone here a bash person?

@soandos it depends

I want to show all of the files in a directory, along with their last modified date and filesize, and then sort by filesize. (with final output being in following order: name, date, size)

@soandos I've configured my PS1 yesterday, is that sufficient?

4:25 AM
@TomWijsman, see above

@soandos hmm it should be possible. i am just being lazy
@soandos join AU chat. someone would help

@jokerdino, doing that now

I can imagine a solution with two for loops, in the first you use cut to put them in size, date, name order, then run a sort over it, in the next one you cut again to put them back in the order you want.
Actually, not cut, even sed or grep could work magic.

awk would be nice =)

@TomWijsman, I have something like "ls -lh | awk '{print $5,"\t", $9}'|sort -n"

4:30 AM
We're coming closer...
@soandos ls -lh | awk '{print $5," ",$6," ",$7," ",$9}'| sort -n | awk '{print $4,"\t",$2,$3,"\t",$1}'
There we go.

@TomWijsman, nice, and thanks
any idea on how to fix the formatting?

No clue. :(

Thank you, would have taken me forever

ls -lh | awk '{print $5"\t"$6"\t"$7"\t"$9}'| sort -n | awk '{print $4"\t"$2,$3"\t"$1}'
Seems you can get rid of the commas, but well, dunno how to fix the spaces. Perhaps easily fixable by finding some bash columns guide online.
Was looking for cut one day, seems awk makes it easier.

very strange

4:38 AM
@soandos: Moment, have an idea.

@TomWijsman, really appreciate this

@soandos ls -lh | awk '{print $5"\t"$6"\t"$7"\t"$9}'| sort -n | awk '{printf "%-16s%-9s%s\n",$4,$2 " " $3,$1}'
This works, adjustable to your liking. Seems it boiled down to calling the printf properly from awk. man awk explains how to do it.

@TomWijsman, it does not line up for me, what should I be changing?
never mind, got it

You can change the 16 to be longer if you have longer file names, I think.

I did (had to change it to 40)

4:45 AM
The others should work for every occasion.

what a painful thing to have to write (sorry for putting you through it)

@soandos: Hmm, I see another problem, it's not really sorting the sizes properly. :S

@TomWijsman what do you mean?

ls -lh | awk '{print $5"\t"$6"\t"$7"\t"$9}'| sort -h | awk '{printf "%-40s%-9s%s\n",$4,$2 " " $3,$1}'
Try this one instead, h compares human readable (which parses the K / M of the size)

ah, got it

4:47 AM
morning

Well, your mileage may vary if you have a different sort / awk, I'm on GNU.

@TomWijsman, I didn't even realize the problem til you pointed it out
it works, thanks a ton

Hmm, can't you get ls to sort by size?

-S, but it removes the size from the output

Yes, there's -S

4:49 AM

@soandos: -lhS doesn't

@Sathya looks like a hand

@TomWijsman strange, did not know that
edited out the sort

@jokerdino O_o

@Sathya a hand with four fingers :D

4:51 AM
ls -lhS | awk '{printf "%-40s%-9s%s\n",$9,$6 " " $7,$5}'
So I end up having this one.

much nicer

If only making a text to half were that easy...
Here's part one, read the other part next year.

@jokerdino hahaha crazy mind you have in there

@Sathya It's a chicken foot

@Sathya it looked obvious to me o.O
@iglvzx ah yeah. chicken foot is a better imagery.

4:57 AM
heh
this is how I'm going to be over, for the next 2 weeks

must flag MOAR

> P.S. A Bit of Photoshop and the Path will look like a Godzilla's footsteps \m/
LOL
(from facebook, the chicken foot image)

@nhinkle: Please reconsider your comments, went through a night of backspace. Thank you (and others) for the support... :)

5:13 AM
@Sathya haha, explains better

@Tom that is far, far, far more concise now :)

Ah, a 7th user signed up as well.

That user name...
That profile...
> Delete me please. I was a mistake. Sorry.

:/

5:17 AM
"I was a mistake"
Ouch

hah

yeah his is way better

I am @ Hyperoptic... +, not sure if that one is faked unless you have a direct link, or they are using 10Gb cards - the fastest speed I have been able to measure point to point using Iperf is 944Mb... With the Ookla speed test engine, around 920Mb

@WilliamHilsum: The second one in my answer, not the first.
It's ran on our ISP, which I asked you to back then.

5:21 AM
ahh, ok! you kept it!?

@WilliamHilsum: There's like a ton of images when searching for imgur.

Any chance you can just blur out the IP quickly!?

oooh

@WilliamHilsum Erm, I'm on Linux so that's going to be tricky. If you have a blur program that would work better. We'd also need a mod / dev to nuke it...

I'll do it here

5:23 AM
@WilliamHilsum: Uhm, what IP, actually?
Oh, I see, ouch.

there we go... can you upload/replace with that one
I am sure nothing bad will happen.. but, not worth the risk!

I explicitly kept your name short / not mentioned that.

hehe, didn't even notice that - cool
... What's the speedtest site? I'll run it again quick... see if I get better speeds at this time (can remote in to work)
but, I need to get ready in a minute, want to get in early
Hmm... tried to remote in to work... this is a new one :/
Won't let me in... Something tells me it isn't going to be a fun morning!
Oh well, @Tom - Upvoted and getting ready now... Thanks for letting me know about that!

are those not the same?

5:30 AM
@nhinkle: IP filtered.

blurred the IP address

oh. well history would show the revision, so i can just burn those for you i guess

Yeah, burning is easiest, go for that. Thanks.

does it matter if the IP's shown?

i mean your IP's not that big of a deal, really, but OK

5:31 AM
It's William's.

@WilliamHilsum I feel like I've seen that before somewhere
did wil care?

yeah

ok

10 mins ago, by William Hilsum
Any chance you can just blur out the IP quickly!?

My bad screenshotting it. There's a risk involved in that it's quite a target given its high speed...
Yeah, I don't mind my IP at home or our server, it's pretty locked out anyway.

5:46 AM
@WilliamHilsum I miss verbosity with such error messages. In this occasion you' ll want to be able to see the event log, do you have Powershell access to it somehow?

@TomWijsman nope, but, leaving for work now... will take a look in about an hour

@WilliamHilsum: Good luck.
