5:31 AM
Christianity is an extention of Rome's sun worship that was retro-fitted for monotheism.
Praise Sol Invictus, the "Sun/Son"
I started another short story
And I edited the other one really heavily.
I need to start coming in here more often.

2 hours later…
7:29 AM
@NathanCTresch: I am vaguely wondering whether the sun-worship lines have anything to do with the short story.

4 hours later…
11:37 AM
Wow. A bunch of writers who can't figure out how to express "Why pad it with crap?" without using profanity? I lol at the irony.
3
Also, we edit that shit out on EL&U as well, unless the question is specifically about it.
I mean, FFS, we chop the "Hi"s and "Kthx"s with extreme prejudice.

12:00 PM
:)

2 hours later…
1:32 PM
@KitFox It's not a matter of inability, it's a matter of preference. Because I want to curse the shit out of me! :)

2 hours later…
3:12 PM
@KitFox: it's not a question of breadth of vocabulary, but of censorship. If "fuck" is exactly and precisely the right word, why do I have to use "frak" and pretend that it's equivalent? (I'm arguing the principle, Standback; I understand the rules.)
And you should chop the Kthnx. Text acronyms are English with all the spelling taken out. There's no place for it in educated correspondence.
(and speaking of irony, you did what at it? :) )

3:38 PM
@Standback Nope. I just saw the christianity discussion so I wanted to chime in with my history lesson
@NeilFein <3
@JedOliver <3

Hello!

Howdy

Work settled down some.
So I can relax and stop by here again more often. :D

I'm in crunch week - project due at the end of the month, so I won't be around all that much.
But I have a few minutes to catch up on Stack Exchange stuff while I have my coffee.

Excellent.
I have a story in the workds
Another
And I'm editing one that I wrote very heavily

3:45 PM
You didn't miss much. Just a bunch of crap. :)

:)
Well, yes, if I wasn't present I know that I didn't miss much.
;)
I am so totally not a fan of censoring profanity.
(Note that I never use it in my questions or answers, however. :P)

3:57 PM
@JedOliver - Getting caught up now. I saw the stuff about swearing.
Generally, if I can help it, I'd prefer to not gonna come down on profanity too hard unless it's blatant. (Think George Carlin.)
I'd prefer to prohibit behaviors like abuse and nastiness.
In practice, the two often go together.

Jesus, what the fuck? Seriously? What is the issue with not using words like "shit"?

There is a Stack Exchange policy on swearing, but it doesn't get into specific words.
There's more, @Standback sent me some additional stuff on this to read, I gotta get caught up.

Yeah, I know. Like I said, we edit cussing most of the time on EL&U.
It's rarely needed to communicate the point.

I personally think that editing out cursing is censorship, even if it is benign.

You all must be younger than me.

4:00 PM
Again, in practice, people who curse often do it for shock value, so it's not useful.

Kids these days.

I think it was Isaac Asimov who said something like this: They're just words, and not nasty in of themselves, but writers can think of more interesting ways to express themselves.

yeah.
@KitFox Hello dear

Ahoy.

I edited the story you read pretty heavily

4:02 PM
Are you glad of it?

And removed all traces of sexuality from it
Yes
I was basically trying to shoehorn two stories into one

Never a good plan.

I wasn't aware of it
Until I thought about it pretty hard

Well, maybe a good plan, but only if you are George Lucas.

hahahaah
I also started another story

4:03 PM
coughs

About a cyberdaemon :D

A daemon or a demon?

Same thing!
The latter is derived from the former

@NathanCTresch Nuh-uh.

I'm afraid so.
It's the former, but it's also the latter
It's both!
And it's also an Incubus

4:07 PM
I am moderately offended that you think you can educate me on these matters.

I am moderately offended that you think that a demon is somehow different from a daemon.
:D

Well, then I am satisfied.

:D
<3 kitfox

:-P
New meds?

No. I am just in a terrific mood.
I got a space heater for my office
So I can close the door and have a no-pants workday whenever I want
:D
When is our official chat event?

4:17 PM
I think it got moved to tomorrow?

Ugh.
Well, now that things are going well at work again I can stop by most every day
:D

So you have work?

I thought you were insane?

I'm the development manager at an internet startup
Yes, I am

4:19 PM
Oh. You are insane.

Yes, I'm very high functioning

I see.

Moreso than my mother, and she was a paralegal before she went off the deep end for good.
brb

So what kind of crazy are you?

Mild psychotic episodes, classic narcissism, ADHD
Narcissism is my most pronounced crazy-ness
It defines me for the most part

4:25 PM
How do you feel about that?
Was your mother also a narcissist?

Ever since I stopped fighting my narcissism my life has been going great.
No, my mother was full blown psychotic
She has that well controlled with meds

I think writing is a great way to sublimate narcissism.

mmmhm
The day I finally took my therapists advice and stopped fighting with myself over it was the same day that I became posessed of the need to write.
:)

Well, there isn't a whole lot you can do. You can't fix it, you just have to find ways to make it work for you.
Do you feel less empty now?

Yes.
I feel whole
For the first time in 20 years

4:33 PM
Well, then. That's a good therapist.

Yes.
I had convinced myself that there was something wrong with me and that I shouldn't indulge that part of myself
But, clearly that was bad advice I had given myself 20 years ago
I'm so much happier now
And I love to write again
I haven't loved to write in so many years, I thought that love was lost to me
I most especially like talking to you. You always let me focus the conversation on myself. :P

4:52 PM
Only when I'm gone for a brief meeting.
Otherwise, we shall talk only about me.

Okay
What are you wearing?

My native self-defenses.
Cunning and a cruel look.

Sexy
I'm wearing mine also: I look like I might be undressing you with my eyes, or I might be sweetly thinking of you.

rolls eyes; suppresses urge to vomit

Yes, yes, that's what they all say.

5:05 PM
Then I think you may be doing it wrong.

They don't all say it, that's just what I say when they do, sheesh.
The ones that do say it usually come around soon anyhow.
I'm not conceited, I'm convinced.
Hello @LaurenIpsum, hello @LadybugKiller. :)
ER
Hello @Standback

/me is here very vaguely. My rehearsal starts in... any moment now.
I've been shanghaied into filling the lead role in community theater. FUN!
...but time consuming.

Which piece?

@Standback I'm quite jealous, and that's rare. I'm almost never jealous of anyone.
@Standback I haven't done any acting in many years

5:25 PM
I act when I have time. Which is... occasionally. It's so time consuming.
It's a romantic comedy, by P.G Wodehouse.
A guy falls in love with a doctor;
every time he starts telling her how he feels,
she starts analyzing his symptoms.
It's a lot of fun :D
So I get to be the lead, the sap in love.

2 hours later…
6:59 PM
Wodehouse! loooooooove Jeeves & Wooster
@KitFox and for the record, I'm a bit older than you are
Did we officially move the chat to Tues?

How old am I?
It's scheduled for tomorrow, yes.

Your EL&U profile says 35, so that's all the evidence I have.
What time?

Oh, I see.
16:00 at UTC -4?

In English?

4 o'clock EDT.

7:03 PM
eeeexcellent, thank you :)

Or are we on EDT?

Daylight
there's one midwestern state which doesn't observe DST, Indiana maybe?
And maybe AZ

Illinois? I dunno. One of those crazy whackadoodle states.

I believe the official term is "Flyover"
because dog knows there is NOTHING on the ground you need to see between St.Louis and Denver
"Kansas: Land of the great TV reception"

Except Carhenge, of course. You musn't forget Carhenge.
The greatest henge in all the land.

7:06 PM
which is?

...
A reproduction of Stonehenge near Alliance, NB made entirely out of cars spray painted gray.
Geezis. What are they teaching the young people these days?
tuts

FUck if I know; I'm not a "young person"
I have seen Stonehenge, however
afk for a sec
bak
had to put on the Muppet Show

It's time to play the music.
It's time to light the lights.
It's time to get things started on the Muppet Show tonight.

wow you type much faster than I do
:D
I can't keep up!

I haven't watched it since I was knee-high to a grasshopper and yet that immediately popped into my head.

7:11 PM
Buddy Rich is the guest
Amazing how it all comes back
Sesame Street, Electric Company, Muppet Show...

My husband laughed at me because I sang all of the Transformers theme last week.

More than meets the eye!

First time I'd seen it since I was, I dunno, twelve.

Transformers are AWESOME

They have a new series, Transformers Prime, that is an update of the old one. Pretty bitchin'.
Scarier than the old ones though.

7:13 PM
Is Cullen voicing?

For small people, I mean. I'm not afraid of them.
@LaurenIpsum You betcha.

Excellent. No point without him.

Hi.
I just quit my job.

Do I offer congratulations or condolences?

But you just got a space heater!

7:18 PM
Maybe he quit his pants?

Well, that is a benefit of a space heater.

C'mon, @NathanCTresch, don't leave us hanging like that.

Hahahah
Sorry!
Congratulations are in order
I will hopefully get this job at my friends company

I'll order them for you :)

claps

7:23 PM
What's the new job?

Thank you, ladies.
It will be another programming job.
I'm a computer programmer by day.

You jumped without knowing where you'd land?

It's a Matrix thing

Stupid?
Nah, just gutsy, I think.

Starts out really fascinating, gets caught up in its own mythology, not a particularly satisfying ending, but awesome graphics

7:25 PM
In the first one.

hm, yeah

The second one sucked so hard I had nothing left for the third.

Haven't seen 2 and 3 since they came out

The Animatrix series was interesting.

Didn't see it
well, gotta run -- will try to stop by later
See you next time on the Muppet Show! (cue sax)

7:27 PM
Bai!

Don't make me edit that :)

Whut?
You don't see me criticizing your double-hyphen-instead-of-a-proper-emdash, do you?
;-)

7:43 PM
@KitFox I often jump without looking. :)

8:15 PM
I'm back. Hola my friends! <3

4 hours later…
11:56 PM
@KitFox: I was referencing your earlier comment that at EL&U, y'all edit out the KthxBais with prejudice. And I used -- instead of — because I'm never sure what will translate on the internet and what will come out as Ö or å.
