12:09 AM
Hello.
How are things?

10 hours later…
9:51 AM
@NathanCTresch: Either you are in the wrong time zone or nobody wants to talk to you :]

10:02 AM
Things are thingish!
Things are describable by adjectives!
Sorry, just popped in to say:
@LadybugKiller @LaurenIpsum: I've edited your answers to writers.stackexchange.com/questions/5706/…
to remove the words "crap" and "shit",
either respectively or vice versa.
I can see how they'd apply here :P ,

@Standback, I just want to mention, that this is the only SE site I know which removes "shit". Think about it.

Hey John :)
I don't know other SE sites.

I thought so.

I don't doubt that a lot gets through - heck, we've still got some curse words here on Writers.SE.
But I know what the policy is, and I'm sticking to it :)

I would normally say "don't be holier than the pope", but talking to an orthodox jew that's probably a wasted argument ;)

10:08 AM
LOL
No kidding.
Heck, being holier than their rabbis is a national sport for Jews. :P

:D
I hope you do not get stoned for using profanity ;)

Usually being stoned requires two witnesses and they need to tell you explictly to stop, and that you'll be stoned for your transgression.
Unfortunately, the internet makes that requirement SO much easier.

That's a little bit - scaring. Remind me not to visit Israel ...

I'm not sure profanity is actually prohibited, though. Certainly frowned upon, but the big things are taking the name in vain, which is a whole 'nother thing.
Tell you what. If the Jewish Sanhedrin of 70 learned men ever gets re-established... then I'll warn you about it :P
Most of it doesn't apply to non-Jews anyway.
Now, secular Jews - they're fucked.

Well, I'm Roman Catholic and if you ask me, Christianity is one big Jewish sect, so I do not fell safe. Someone could think that I'm a secular Jew ...
Besides that your answers are too long. And partially off-topic (one could be the reason of the other).

10:19 AM
:cue JAWS theme music:
:also, JEWS theme music:

I knew it!

If they weren't long, I'd need to go back to working!
What was off-topic?

The "possible too long/too short" part. We already have a question where that is handled.

Hmmm.
I think you're right.
It's relevent to the original poster, but it is besides the point of the actual question.

Just link to the other question.
You have to search it though.

10:26 AM
Edited. I might search for the related question later, though not right now.

Lazy bum :)
Wooohooo, we are up to 2 questions a day.

PARTY!
Quick, let's ask another one!

You are cheating!
I like that :)

"When I was in school, we learned there is a difference between right and wrong.
I don't recall what it is,
but there is a difference, I remember that."
I gotta go...
TTYL!

5 hours later…
3:27 PM
@Standback: I did not know that was policy, so thank you. But.... seriously? On Writers we can't use a mild epithet like "crap"?
And I'm an atheist, so I'm not concerned with being holier than anybody. :)
Stephen Fry gives a very eloquent defense of profanity, so I don't even feel obligated to be Caesar's wife.
However, I also don't feel the need to piss off the mods, so in questions and answers I'll find a way to refrain from swearing like a sailor.

4:16 PM
@LaurenIpsum: Heya :) Believe me, I need little persuasion on the subject. But it's explicit policy on StackExchange; I respect that policy, and it's part of my job as a mod :)

4:34 PM
@LaurenIpsum I do not share this feeling. I'm thinking about swearing even more :)

Just checking out the Meta Stack Overflow on this

Q: Are expletives allowed on SE sites?

Jeff AtwoodCan I use salty, expletive-laden language on Stack Exchange sites, like Q*Bert? Return to FAQ index

oops. wrong one.
Seems that there's a little disagreement on what is and is not considered a profanity and when it is and is not appropriare

Why have you deleted the other one? You need them both to get the context and the appeal to use common sense instead of following blindly rules.

It had a -26 rating. that's why. I loved that question until I saw that had infinity+ downvotes

So what?

okay
-27
Q: Let's clean up low-quality posts with profanity on Stack Overflow

Chris Frederick When I originally wrote this request, I was basing it off of Jeff's assertion that "expletives are not acceptable behavior on meta or any other Stack Overflow site." After going through a number of these posts, however, I also found that the use of the word "damn" is often an indicator of a lo...

In any case I don't like that Writers of all places would have a blanket policy on not using the word crap.
We use words of all stripes to convey our ideas. We shouldn't be afraid of using certain words to express ourselves.

4:45 PM
@LadybugKiller: I hope you're joking about swearing even more. There's no point in turning this into a policy war - the Writers mods have zero say on this.
Likewise, @JedOliver: this is not up for discussion.
This is a very unusual policy on SE - in the sense that it's entirely objective and mechanical, and not up for community discussion or judgement.

Read the Meta posts, Jed linked to. There is nothing to discuss. Only using your own judgement

@LadybugKiller: I've been over those posts. And the "No" answer is from Jeff Atwood. He's got the vote.

Also the other one.

You want to change policy on SE, I'll be right behind you.
You want to disregard policy here, I'll have to enforce it.

sigh it's no policy change
I told you, you are the only one enforcing the deletion of crap and shit

4:49 PM
Tell you what.
I'm happy to check with the higher-ups.

Do that :)

Believe me, I'll be more then relieved not to need to censor shit and crap.
(which I guess you can take both ways :P )
Sure thing.

2 hours later…
6:26 PM
@Standback: Okay, the meta discussion was unclear: would we be allowed to use "frack" (not an actual swear word, but a coined one from a TV show)? How about "scheisse/merde/merda" (all words meaning "shit," but not in English)?
I'm actually not that profuse a swearer in prose; I just want to know what the limits are so I can observe them (or watch them whiz merrily by).

@LaurenIpsum I'd say use your own best judgement.
I'd rather not see curse words replaced by borderline mock-cursewords,
because, frankly, that'd be kind of stupid.
But it's a formulaic restriction, so I don't think there's anything against a formulaic workaround; besides, it's not like we're going to be calling in the hounds on borderline cases.

3 hours later…
9:45 PM
@Standback: Yeah, it's not like I'm planning on going around telling other posters to frak off or eat felgercarb or suck my ramalamadingdong. But if I want to say "why pad it with crap?" now I know I should say "Why pad it with scheisse?"
