@TheSnarkKnight The fact that they did these acts is unfortunate (for everyone) though.
And they deserve their outcome (being locked away for good or executed) but that doesn't make it a happy outcome
the overall situation is still quite unfortunate (for everyone)
justice doesn't make it right again. You can't get proper retribution for a child molester. Whatever punishment we inflict on them will always fall short of what they deserve
And what they deserve will not undo the crime

@Magisch fortune is random chance, not deliberate acts. You can get proper retribution for a child molester, just not through our modern 'civilized' systems.

@TheSnarkKnight Mhm, what would be in your opinion?
Nothing will make that kid forgive and forget
there isn't. You could torture the guy for a hundred years and it would still not have made it right, not even by a little bit
even if you fully meet justice, the entire situation will still be sad and unfortunate for everyone involved.

@Magisch on the contrary, I'd say that stooping to that level is undoing a lot of that justice

Thats why western justice systems are based on rehabilitation
We can't undo the crime so the very best we can do is ensure it doesn't happen again
Whatever just punishment someone gets, it won't be on this world because it's impossible

@Magisch all data indicates that you cannot rehabilitate a child molester.

3:09 PM
right
so death penalty
not because it's just, but because it's the way to prevent harm to society
or whatever else scientists can come up with, idk like chemical castration or whatever

@Magisch so, what does punishing an offender do? First it keeps people for taking justice for themselves, thus creating a never ending cycle of horrendous acts, second, it gives peace to the wronged.
@Magisch Punishment is justice, rehabilitation is a separate issue.

@TheSnarkKnight As someone whos mother was killed by someone else's monetarily motivated negligience I can tell you right now seeing that guy suffer his consequences is cold comfort
seeing him suffer wont bring my mother back and never will
even if I was allowed to kill him with my bare hands that still wouldn't be fair
