@JMRboosties when did I send an article?

3:30 AM
@TrevorPowell (answer-bombing you from the future) 200 rep is the limit per-day for all questions, but it can be busted because accepted questions and bounty ignore the limit.

Ah, interesting.

3:45 AM
Stupid limit. :(

Greetings from Physics.SE!
How on-topic would this post be for you guys?

Q: How do I know an initial speed of a thrown object using the max height

Dani The simulation being referred to is in box2d An object is thrown to the max height of $h$ with gravity of $g$, what is it initial speed? I tried the following: $v = v_0 - g t$ $0 = v_0 - g t$ $t = \frac{v_0}{g}$ $h = v_0 * t - \frac{1}{2}g * t^2$ $v_0 = \sqrt{2 * g * h}$ But putting it...

He's talking about a discrepancy in calculated value and simulated(box2d) value
Its definitely more on-topic for you guys than it is for us(he's got the physics part straight), but it may still not be good enough

@Manishearth Since he isn't developing a game, the question borders on off-topic here as well. I can't comment on the actual question though, besides it may be related to the number of simulation ticks done, which can cut a bit off compared to simply doing the math. It's more programming in general than game development, so perhaps simply stuff it on SO.

@tylerrrr07 I don't have an AV and I have to pirate, (since no one is selling legal software to me)
but I've got no malwares in a long time.
@tylerrrr07 other than that there are some sites offering pirating throw file sharing sites, like 4shared, 2shared, filestube, mediafire and so on
(assuming you do not consider a 2 year old windows a malware)

Does anyone know a good way to implement movement in box2d platformer. I'm using the java distribution: JBox2D. Thanx. :D

I assume movement is already in Box2D?
Apply a force and the objects should move.
Also, second hit on googling "box2d platformer" is this blog post: badlogicgames.com/wordpress/?p=2017
Google is your best friend as a programmer.

I'm starting to secondguess my namespace naming schema.
namespace ByteShark.SharkBytes.SharkBeats

6:53 PM
Where did you get those names?

7:37 PM
@tylerrrr07 Well, the name of the project is ByteShark. I decided to call the folder with my data-type classes "SharkBytes", and then one of those classes I decided to call "SharkBeats".

Right - why?

That's my point. I have no idea why. And now I've changed it.

lol ok

Hm. Though to be fair, I was on oxycodone last night. Haha. :/

Fair enough :)

guys i need help
im trying to understand the logic here on how to loop an object's dimensions to check if its in an array
but it sorta works only half the time =/ though cos im doing it in javascript i dont know if i should ask here or on stack overflow :S

@Dave How are you doing it?

ill do a paste to with a pseudo code

Do you know when it doesn't work?

yeh - when its doing any of the width/height stuff

Have you tried debugging your code to see what's wrong?

8:08 PM
yeh i got it displaying the numbers

Is position a tile or a set of tiles?
Try declaring var x and var y
I have a feeling you are changing some globals unknownigly

position holds info for one tile

Does gcollision index pixels?
I.e. is gcollision[x][y] supposed to be a pixel at position (x, y)?

8:28 PM
no
grid number
sorry late reply was getting a drink
X:Y would be like 5:8

8:38 PM
Then block_width/block_height are width and height in grid cells?

hey like 2 by 2 tiles
it works kinda

Well, I'm out of ideas.
I thought you were going through pixels and checking tiles.

no pixels would be v.bad idea :P
far too many pixels to check
