6:01 PM
jeez

when you know you'll lose 48 rep in the future and can't do anything 'bout it

Exactly :(
But if I can earn the silver badge before that.... :D

I think the system is specifically made so that you wouldn't earn it D:

user165474
wait who's losing rep

6:04 PM
I lost 14-ish overnight from serial downvoting

user165474
rip

Then got 60 from serial upvoting
I wouldn't mind too much if the system glossed over this event :P

rep you don't actually deserve can make you feel guilty in the long run

Unless I get the silver badge. Impossible to feel guilty about that
And if I'd feel guilty about rep I don't deserve, it'd be for this

no that's rep you deserve...probably repcapped too

6:07 PM
Why is there so much serial voting??

Once just for that answer, but 3 times for that combined with other things
Had I not hit the rep cap yesterday I would've gotten 700 rep :O

We need a mod to fix it. Can mods see who voted something?

The system will reverse it automatically soon

they should let you see who downvoted you

No they shouldn't, that would tempt me to serially downvote them :I

6:09 PM
@programmer5000 probably a voting ring or something, like what happened to ELU.SE recently

can't see it myself probably 'cause I can't see the delete button

@EriktheOutgolfer Really?? Why would a voting ring downvote?

@EriktheOutgolfer So it was a high-rep user who voted to delete??

no it was probably a delete vote from a time where the answer had some negative score or something (btw I am high-rep enough already)

Oh huh
@programmer5000 They got serially downvoted then serially upvoted

Ooookkkkk....

1000 from a newline. damn

This site has weird voters.
(And weird starers on its main chat room)

s/rers/rrers

6:13 PM
why do people spell starrers wrong all the time?

user165474
s/ar/arr/ because there's no /g

@programmer5000 For a community of people who spend hours writing the shortest, most unreadable code to perform pointless tasks, I think our voting habits should be the least of our worries
6

user165474
Hm that delete vote is strange. (Sorry for the temporary downvote; I downvoted it to see the delete button and then upvoted)

No problem

@HyperNeutrino you don't undo a downvote by upvoting but by undownvoting
unless you liked the answer and upvoted

user165474
6:17 PM
@EriktheOutgolfer I know that. I did intentionally upvote it.

user165474
I've been around SE for what, 2 years? ffs

user165474
:P

@HyperNeutrino And you're only nerdier than 83% of all people? Pitiful :P I got 99%

user165474
lol

user165474
why u stalk me ;_;

6:19 PM
@MDXF can you prove?

Just to see how long you've actually been here :P
@EriktheOutgolfer Sure, it used to be in my bio, I'll pull up my backup...

@EriktheOutgolfer but on CodeGolf...

user165474

@EriktheOutgolfer Damn, I'm gonna have to take the test again
@HyperNeutrino Ha I'm beating you on SO :P

user165474
6:21 PM
:(

Though I like the PPCG community 5000000x more than the SO one

@HyperNeutrino it's just 8 months for him

user165474
Well your parent user is SO, mine is PPCG

@EriktheOutgolfer Me?

user165474
well I'm a lot less active in terms of posting

user165474
the question must've been tagged c++

Oh yeah
My top question involved c++

6:23 PM
@MDXF Mine:

I'm about to retake it

user165474
:o

@programmer5000 how do I know you didn't copy the picture?

tfw you get active on PPCG for 2 weeks and get half of your SO rep from 8 months

user165474
well that +130 answer...

6:25 PM
Yeah

@EriktheOutgolfer Copy from what?

user165474
anyway got to go now. bye! o/

Third this week mainly because of that :D

I just noticed the profile colors of everyone chatting are black, green, and blue

@programmer5000 so?

6:27 PM
Ha I got 100 too
:P

Okx
But have you solved Maybe?

Maybe...

?

@programmer5000 Not anymore ;)

6:31 PM
@MDXF ooh the link got changed?
it used to link to Maybe

Someone link an obscure language for me to try to write a quine in

brainfuck

@MDXF brainfuck?
nah that's really hard

ninja'd
how about applescript
@MDXF

how about unary

6:40 PM
or, dare i say, ;#+

@KuanHulio @EriktheOutgolfer brainfuck

@KuanHulio I'll do an Applescript one when I finish working on the ;#+ one :P

(you plagiarized the post btw)

@EriktheOutgolfer Didn't plagiarize
There's a link
Okay there's not a link. I just edited it out. Wrong answer
It's back in, my bad

6:44 PM
conway's game of life

@KuanHulio That's pretty damn easy... a 2x2 square stays still and AFAIK is as close to a quine as GoL can get

I don't think you can really make a quine in GoL until you define what "output" is in GoL

Isn't "output" just the cells on the screen?
If so, then a 2x2 qualifies as a quine

But at what point does it count as output and not a step of execution?

I think an 6x6 like this would be the actual quine btw:

6:48 PM
Because some run infinitely

......
......
..##..
..##..
......
......

@BusinessCat Then a 2x2 would probably count 'cause it stops

oldest dirty comment I've ever seen on PPCG

I'm surprised that's not deleted

I guess each generation is considered an output

@BusinessCat Then a 2x2 works. I think I'll post that

This is probably something to take to meta, tbh

The comment? Nah, just flag it

@DJMcMayhem a reason I didn't onebox

With a link to Erik's suggestion. Thanks

6:54 PM
Huh. Just lost 70 rep from a user deletion

@DJMcMayhem Serial voting?

I dunno if it counts as "rude or offensive"...but definitely violates "be nice" 'cause sexual subliminal

Tom
lost like 70 rep as well and dropped below 2000 :'(

I actually lost 110 today

@ConorO'Brien How do I use your ;#+ interpreter? I might have written a quine but I can't figure out how to test it

I wonder if user deletion factors into the rep cap

@ConorO'Brien Thanks. And how does one get their language on TIO?

I guess it does

If the upvotes were from a different day, it shouldn't

@MDXF ask dennis

7:03 PM
@ConorO'Brien Dennis runs TIO???

Wow

although preferably do it here

It didn't work :( it exceeded the time limit

then download it from github?

Yeah, I did, I'll just let it run in the background

yay offending comment deleted

how long is it? o_o

Only 877 bytes

its like

well, that's about 20x shorter than my proof-of-concept

7:06 PM
Exactly...

nobody reads the whole challenge

No idea why it's taking forever

It shouldn't. you probably made a mistake

Guess so

A user was removed (I lost 125 rep). Any idea who it might be?

7:08 PM
hm
I just got 30 rep lost from that

@LuisMendo A serial voter, a lot of people have been mentioning that

Anonymous
@LuisMendo Best not to speculate

we've recently had a case of voting abuse

@MDXF no, this was old
I haven't gained much rep recently

@Riker Ah

7:08 PM
it might be another sock of it

Oh my. I lost 100 rep. Welp

guess nobody noticed the...loss at first

I still haven't lost any
I may gain some, I was serial-downvoted

@MDXF Tbh, I'm not sure you were targeted in this case. You got a all your downvotes on answers you took from Rosetta, yes? So someone actually had an issue with the posts, not with you. (That said, the system would still reverse the votes.)

-60 here

7:10 PM
@Dennis is that vacuous honesty or something?

@Mego It may be related to this

like (honesty) ~= (truth) so (vacuous) * (truth) ~= (vacuous) * (honesty)

@EriktheOutgolfer Typing is hard.

On mobile?

@Dennis I figured someone had a problem with the posts. Big deal, I can understand that. I just wish they'd left a comment so I can explain...

7:13 PM
@Dennis he also had 3 downvotes on his own posts...maybe some unlikely coincidence or mindless serial voting or something which is more likely

@MDXF Unfortunately, some people do not react well to criticism, so I understand why downvoters might opt to stay anonymous.

IDK why I find programmers making typos funny

A way to anonymously provide feedback attached to a downvote would be nice.

@Dennis Guess so. But if you're gonna downvote 10 answers in 30 seconds, it'd be nice to provide a reason.

maybe one should be forced to leave an anonymous comment when downvoting

7:39 PM
@ConorO'Brien I have a feeling that would result in more nonconstructive than constructive criticism. Also, on occasions everything that needs to be said has already been said, so there's no need to add yet another comment.

in those former cases, it would give rational to perhaps reverse the downvote. in the second case, maybe add a system to upvote downvote comments?

I don't think votes should be reversed automatically unless there's tangible evidence of abuse.

I don't believe I said anything about votes being automatically reversed

How then? Way too much downvotes for human intervention.
And we certainly don't need additional barriers for downvoting. The way I see it, most users don't downvote enough.

that's true

7:43 PM
So true. There's an amazing meta post about that
But I'm pretty sure it's meta SO

it'd really be nice to get more feedback when downvoted... I hate when I'm downvoted because I'm left with no idea of what's wrong with my post or how to improve.

A: When is it justifiable to downvote a question?

Denis de BernardyPlease stop being a care bear, and proceed to be harsher at once. Poorly written question? Downvote and move on. Feel like puking in the face of the OP's wall of hideous spaghetti code? Downvote and move on. Did the OP obviously forego googling? Downvote and move on. Did the OP obviously forego...

With a few edits that could apply to submissions, too
a question ban will only kick in if an OP's questions are sufficiently downvoted. So downvote away, wide and large, as viciously as you can, without fear or mercy. +1000

I really think that answer is quite unempathetic. I agree more with the commenters than the poster...

Well, it's pretty damn accurate for SO.
And some parts certainly relate to PPCG
@ConorO'Brien (in ;#+) How do I save multiple accumulators into memory at the same time?

I think it's further from the truth for PPCG. PPCG is not learning how to code (a more objective process), but rather, learning how to golf. There is no amount of research or googling that can make you an excellent code golfer. There are few situations in which these guidelines would accurately identify an answer as being downvote-worthy, nor does it explain the downvotes on seemingly-good answers. So says the OP, "Why should I be bothered to waste even a moment explaining a down vote if OP cannot be bothered to do his homework and research before asking?" You should spend the time to make

Yes, wall of text, but I feel strongly about this (3k chars) TL;DR don't be a jerk. Be someone who makes an impact on new people's lives

And on some answers, certainly, it's obvious they don't care about their content. Feel free to downvote. This is the kind of content I was talking about, not new users' first posts.

I understand that. But it's part of a larger problem that I see too often. I don't often see that case (perhaps because its nuked before I can get to it), so I somewhat assumed you had to refer to the site at large

And I wasn't trying to encourage downvoting apathetically; I came from SO and I'm still a bit wary for utter trash, like we see all the time there.

Please, don't take this personally, I didn't mean it as such

I'm not; you certainly have a point

but it also means you have a higher tendency to golf production code :P
