@PaulGaborit Thanks for the comment (tex.stackexchange.com/questions/247742).

7 hours later…
Jan
8:00 AM
Good morning

@Jan Morning

Jan
@Johannes_B Good Morning Johannes.

@Jan Still snowy in Clausthal?

Jan
8:16 AM
@Johannes_B It seems to be promising weekend. The forecast says it'll snow heavily today. Temperatures will be far below minus for the complete next week, so snow will not melt! :-)
Fast break for breakfast

@Jan Oh, seems i finally need a warm hat. The coldness is freezing my ears off.

8:31 AM
Stop downvoting!

Jan
8:48 AM
I managed to earn 15 hats, but none of them promises to be a warming hat ... I am always doing something wrong.

In Clausthal, the temperatures rose up to -11 °C.
@CarLaTeX Good Morning

@Jan We had minus 12 C yesterday. A mostly sunny day.

@Jan oooh, very cold!

@CarLaTeX Who is downvoting?

@Johannes_B Someone with very high reputation

Jan
Yesterday we had -15 °C at day and even colder at night. But yesterday evening the clouds started forming and hence it was warmer.

Where are you located

8:50 AM
@Johannes_B you never can trust @egreg

@Jan Freiberg/Saxony

Jan
@CarLaTeX Are you downvoted?
Ah, Freiberg. thats 200 m lower in altitude, than Clausthal.
A friend of mine has recently moved from Clausthal to Freiberg. We have to visit him in the summer vacations over there! :-) Looking very much foreward.

@Jan Only for the temperature!
@Jan They seem very nice places (I googled around)

Jan
I don't mind -8 °C at night and -5 °C at day as winter temperature.

But to be true, the noise of the crackling snow when you walk on that cold snow is very exciting. I love it.
@CarLaTeX Freiberg? Yes, it is. But Clausthal has also some nice places.

@Jan Bestimmt ein Bergmann.

8:59 AM
flora-jg.de/eos20d/freiberg/freiberg.html Perhaps I stopped to the first image...

Jan
@Johannes_B Actually not. He learned Mechatronics. He was working at our institute of Metallurgy and moved to Freiberg, in order to build up a new electro-mechanics workshop of a new research branch. It is quite a rare chance.

@Jan Metallurgy. Good choice.

Jan
@CarLaTeX This are some older views from Clausthal, a colleague of mine is collecting: h-d-mueller.de/album_alte_ansichten/index.htm He also does photos himself h-d-mueller.de

@Jan I did not know it's a mining area

Jan
9:15 AM
Clausthal and Freiberg are very similar. We were both mining areas in the medieval time. In fact, the first real miners came frome saxonia in the nearly unpopulated Harz mountains. Than, the prisoners where asked: execution to death, or working in the mines for 30 years and being freed afterwards, if the should survive the mining. Thats how our town grew up.

Later on, they found out, that the needed more trained and skilled personell and founded the montanic school, which nowadays is Clausthal University of Technology. The university in Freiberg was founded some years earlier.

It's weekend, yay!

@Jan There's always something to learn on TEX.SE!
@PauloCereda A long week-end for us, in Italy also yesterday was a holiday!

@CarLaTeX yaaaay

I just left a comment which ended with: A template is not a template.

@Johannes_B ooh it's deliciously Godelian.

Jan
9:37 AM
Johannes_B: I deleted my MWE: You are so right.

@CarLaTeX: Milan or Inter? :)

@PauloCereda Inter

@CarLaTeX ooh egreg must not see this. :)
I love watching the calcio on TV.
I used to watch almost all games.

@PauloCereda I know he's a "gobbo"

@CarLaTeX what's that?

9:41 AM
@PauloCereda The nickname for who is a Juventus fan
@PauloCereda But don't call him so

@CarLaTeX ooh I didn't know, I learned a new word!
@CarLaTeX uh-oh :)
@CarLaTeX: I am a Palmeiras fan.

It's the way the others calls the juventini

@CarLaTeX got it, we have similar names in here as well. :D

@Jan Why did you delete your answer? I don't see any reasn for it. I would be glad if you unelete it.

@PauloCereda I'm not a soccer fan. The only match I followed with passion was the World Champion final in 1982!

9:44 AM
Oh no, they're talking about Football :-(

@ChristianHupfer We can talk about snow balls?

@CarLaTeX Oh no, Paolo Rossi!
This brings me shivers, although I wasn't even born. :)

@PauloCereda Yes, that one!

@CarLaTeX Brazilians consider that team the very best Brazilian squad ever formed.

Jan
@Johannes_B Your answer is much straightforward, than mine. Yours is better, you earn the points, not me.

9:46 AM
@Jan You have the very same solution, were faster and provided a screenshot. And i really really don't care about the points.

@Jan I could vote for undeletion :D

@PauloCereda Brazilian squad?

Jan
@Johannes_B You're generous.
Ill do so.

@CarLaTeX The one who lost to Italy. :)

@PauloCereda ah, yes!

9:47 AM
@PauloCereda world cups have not been worth watching since 1966

@Jan Why generous? The rep points don't buy me a beer. But i know you will be in Freiberg soon :-p

@CarLaTeX Rossi scored two against us.
@DavidCarlisle I wonder why. :)

Just idding of course. No need for beer.

@PauloCereda There was a big party in Italy when we win against Brazil
we won

@CarLaTeX you can edit previous comments:-) (like this)

9:49 AM
@DavidCarlisle Thank you for the info!

@CarLaTeX (up arrow) If your typing is like mine you need to know these things

@CarLaTeX The first world cup I really remember watching was 1994.

@DavidCarlisle My typing is almost worst than my English!
@PauloCereda Please, don't remember me I could be your mother! Hahahaha

@CarLaTeX oopsie sorry. :)

@PauloCereda :):):)

9:54 AM
@CarLaTeX: something I really love about the calcio is the anthems.

@PauloCereda Chi non salta milanista è!

Jan
@Johannes_B Would be nice to meet you and a beer won't be much of a problem.

@CarLaTeX haha
@CarLaTeX: ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh Inter!
^^ I remember this part
:)

@PauloCereda :):):)

@CarLaTeX There might be some extra o's in there. :)

9:59 AM
if I convert all the emojione svg to pdf and put them in a luatex virtual font we could typeset 🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆 in luatex.....

@DavidCarlisle YES
@DavidCarlisle Half of my thesis will be done then.

@PauloCereda I've never counted them!

@CarLaTeX :)

10:11 AM
@egreg: we were talking about calcio!
@egreg: and @David was very happy!

@DavidCarlisle Lots of weirdness being addressed in beamer

@JosephWright beamer today tikz tomorrow?

@DavidCarlisle I've already been thinking a bit about that (expl3 low-level drawing support)

@JosephWright yes expl3 at the lower pgf levels would make a lot of sense and tikz should still sit on top fairly well
@JosephWright do you know if xetex/xdvipdfmx support for vf fonts extends beyond 8bits?

@DavidCarlisle Indeed: all quite doable, just a question of what the priorities are (I really want to tackle style sheets, hence looking over beamer really: there are some good ideas that I need to understand more)
@DavidCarlisle Sorry, not sure

10:25 AM
@JosephWright I suspect not, although documentation is rather thin,

10:42 AM
@PauloCereda I'm sure about it!
@PauloCereda Hurry up and update your TeX Live, then do texdoc halloweenexample

11:01 AM
@egreg oooh
@DavidCarlisle YAY

@egreg I tried to search for halloweenmath with MiKTeX but I can't find it, do you know if it's too early?

@egreg no luck here. :(

@PauloCereda it arrived when i did an update this morning

@DavidCarlisle Brazilian repos are not sync'ed yet then. :(

@PauloCereda well so long as it gets there in less than 11 months, you should be fine

11:06 AM
@DavidCarlisle :)

@PauloCereda Soccer player added: tex.stackexchange.com/a/347474/101651

@CarLaTeX awwwww <3

@PauloCereda :) A feature that changes the colors of the ball is needed, though...

@CarLaTeX Let me summon someone then.
@percusse: SIR WE NEED YOU

@PauloCereda yay! I'd be great if we could have a tikzducks package!

11:21 AM
@CarLaTeX <3

2 hours later…
12:55 PM
@MarkWibrow Hey, are you online?

@CarLaTeX AHA!! There's the person who thinks my duck is ugly!

@CarLaTeX Possibly

I have to tell you that the tikzpeople duck is not happy with you!

@MarkWibrow I wrote a comment instead.

1:14 PM
@Dr.ManuelKuehner If @M doesn't complete to Mark's name, then the ping will not work unless you have mod powers to ping anyone.

@DavidCarlisle Ok - thanks. I am pretty sure that I don't have that sort of power :).

@DavidCarlisle I am following the team list mails: not much to add to what you are saying :)

@Dr.ManuelKuehner basically you can only ping people in chat who have been here in the last day or so.
@JosephWright you don't fancy having 1114111 active characters to play with?

@DavidCarlisle Err, no

@JosephWright you should ask the uktug committee about that:-)

1:19 PM
@DavidCarlisle Like I say, I agree with you, basically: the situation with Unicode fonts is different from that with classical 8-bit ones in terms of what can be done outside of the font itself

@Maeher but tikzpeople ducks are monsters: half duck half man, hahaha!

@CarLaTeX As opposed to half man half biscuit?

@egreg I'm looking forward to being able to use it!

@CarLaTeX yeah so? Do you really want to mess with Duckman? :D

@JosephWright Feel free to post your own answer, hahaha!

1:27 PM
@CarLaTeX Oh, I'm entirely non-artistic

@CarLaTeX I'll admit that the beauty of that duck is limited both by the condition that all tikzpeople should have the same basic shape and my lack of artistic talent ;)

@Maeher That's why we need a tikzducks package! :):):)

@DavidCarlisle I see - thanks for the information.

2:11 PM
Hello all together, I have a question about http://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/18771: **\pgfmathtruncatemacro{<macro>}{<expression>}
Defines <macro> as the truncated value of <expression>.** Does **truncated value** mean ***rounded**?
Oh **** - the formatting is completely wrong.
The question is if truncated value mean *rounded in a pgf context? (how do I make bold text here in the chat?)

2:30 PM
@Dr.ManuelKuehner This is bold (two asterisks on either side): **bold**

@Dr.ManuelKuehner I would assume that truncated means without decimal places, i.e. rounded towards zero

@Dr.ManuelKuehner Truncated means truncated, I'd say.

@egreg Ok - in my first attempt it didn't work - the asterix just was printed - maybe it was in verbatim mode due to the code fragment
@egreg So hust get rid of the numbers after the decimal seperator?
@egreg hust = just :)
@Maeher Thanks.

@Dr.ManuelKuehner If I do the following, I get 1 for \aaa and 0 for \bbb:
\pgfmathtruncatemacro{\aaa}{1+0.8}
\pgfmathtruncatemacro{\bbb}{-1+0.2}
@Dr.ManuelKuehner I deduce that the decimal part is simply cut off.

@egreg and @Maeher So it's not rounded - understood. 0.8 -> 0 and 1.9 -> 1
@egreg May I ask another question when you are here? It's about expl3 and I do not know what I am doing atm. I try to adopt an answer of @ChristianHupfer
@egreg amt = at the moment, sorry

2:36 PM
@Dr.ManuelKuehner Fire off!

@egreg So I am doing a kind of progress bar for a beamer presentation.

@Dr.ManuelKuehner Don't. ;-) Your audience will be distracted by it.

@egreg I calculate the progress using the idea of @ChristianHupfer (tex.stackexchange.com/questions/347121)
@egreg I work at Porsche - I will use a race track.
@egreg It's a fun project.

@Dr.ManuelKuehner OK, but I don't think your problem is in a format suitable for the chat

@egreg Ok - give me a last try here - ok=?
\inserttotalframenumber --> good if there is no appendix | \beamer@startpageofappendix-1 --> good if there is an appendix but bad if there is no (then it's -1). I want to check if \beamer@startpageofappendix is zero and then want to use \inserttotalframenumber instead. But I can't do it in this code: \fp_eval:n {min((100*\insertframenumber/(\beamer@startpageofappendix-1)),100)}

2:42 PM
@Dr.ManuelKuehner No, sorry: there's too much context missing.

@egreg Should I just open a question?

@Dr.ManuelKuehner I think so

@egreg Ok - I will do so. Thanks anyway.

2:59 PM
@egreg I posted a question (tex.stackexchange.com/questions/347560) - I hope that it is clearer now.

3:15 PM
@egreg Your answer disappeared?

@Dr.ManuelKuehner Yes, I'm revising it

Ah, I see. It's not solved at the moment.
@egreg I have to leave the house in 10 min - I'll be able to reply in the evening.

3:32 PM
@Dr.ManuelKuehner Answer back online

1 hour later…
5:02 PM
@Dr.ManuelKuehner You can use *text* for emphasizing. And `code` for code. The bold face stuff looks disturbing.

@Johannes_B ...says the man who SHOUTS occasionally ;-)

@ChristianHupfer Me? Never.
:-p

@Johannes_B cooking ... Bolognese

@ChristianHupfer The real deal or the german equivalent?

@Johannes_B Not sure I'd try “ragù alla bolognese” in a German restaurant.

5:16 PM
@egreg Why not? It is of high quality. It comes in 10liter cans.

5:43 PM
@Johannes_B Something that tastes good ;-)

5:56 PM
@ChristianHupfer I am hungry

6:40 PM
@Johannes_B Too late ... dinner is over

2 hours later…
8:11 PM
@DavidCarlisle I cannot find a single font that would show these characters.

8:32 PM
@Johannes_B Thanks.

All sorts of oddities in beamer when you start reading the code!
@DavidCarlisle ^^^
Lots of save stack dodginess :(

@wilx on windows segui emoji comes with the OS, or you can get the free emojione font from emojione.com (or from mozilla) or apple has a font called something like apple color emoji or....
@wilx but they don't work out of the box as the Mozilla/microsoft ones use a color table that basically has svg images and the apple ones have a different table that specifies different layers for each colour. neither works with either luatex or xetex/xdvipdfmx at present, however since you can extract the svg (or in emojione case they supply a zip of them anyway) you can reconstitute them in a form usable from tex
@JosephWright surprise surprise:-)
@JosephWright are you checking stuff back, should I be watching the repo?

8:49 PM
@DavidCarlisle I am checking stuff in and sending to GitHub: whether it's interesting or not I leave to you (that I know of none of the bugs to fix are related to beamerbasedecode, it's just that working through it's loaded earlier and I notice lots of issues)

@JosephWright I'll watch for a bit:-) who's turbo, do you know?

Right, the unanswered list: I see @percusse is already on it
For those who are new to this: the aim is to find questions on the unanswered list that can one way or another be addressed. Ping me for the mod hammer where appropriate, ask for upvotes, etc.

Q: Vertically centered tilde with \raisebox includes space when copying from pdf

hakojaI'm trying to use the hack suggested here (option 1) in order to obtain a vertically centered tilde (using Computer Modern font) and it works fine. @egreg and.@Johannes -- can you confirm that the suggestion I made for 166067 really works? at the moment, i'm writing this on an ipad, and can't check anything.
