My language's PRNG always returns 4 for some reason.

Yeah, powershell is gross like that

We could probably require it to have some score or better on a statistical randomness test

PS C:\Tools\Scripts\golfing> get-random -mi 4 -ma 5
4
See?!

...... ._.

I don't actually see any advantage in having a bad PRNG in an esolang. How would it be better than just implementing a real one?

2:02 PM
Weird. My Powershell does the same thing!
PS C:\Tools\Scripts\golfing> $PRNG=4
PS C:\Tools\Scripts\golfing> echo $PRNG
4
PS C:\Tools\Scripts\golfing>

@Geobits Just to be a nuisance?

($PRNG=4) ... golfed a bunch of bytes for ya

@quartata The purpose on which all esolangs are created.

@quartata Well sure, that. I meant as a "loophole" it isn't very good :P

> It's brainf_ck, but blue!

2:05 PM
Oh, cool. I made a green one last week, so it's nice to see some variety.

That was mildly funny but I hold you to a higher standard of jokes, so I will refrain

Oh, sure. That one definitely wasn't worth a star or anything. I'd be disappointed with anyone who did.

We have standards now? What's next? Pun licenses?

Not mad, just disappointed.

Q: Ways of specifying random generation in challenges

Zgarb Note: As per consensus on Meta, challenge-writing questions are on topic here. In light of this "thing to avoid when writing challenges", I started to think about challenges involving random generation of certain kinds of objects. It sometimes happens that I want to post a code-golf challen...

Wow, lucky.

Gods be praised.
The bounty is plentiful this year.

If I paid for a Mathematica license, do you think Dennis could set it up for TIO?

That would be public redistribution and I'm pretty confident you didn't pay for that license.

@NewSandboxedPosts When did you start posting HTTPS links? SSL certificates for child metas are broken.

@Dennis It's not HTTPS for me. O.o

There was a comment that lead to the sandbox question

@VoteToClose OK, I looked at the source, and it isn't HTTPS. Something seems to be "upgrading" the links.

4:52 PM
But, why would anyone reserve a Sandbox post? That just doesn't even make sense.

@TimmyD Because it's the 1337th post.

It's actually the 3427th.

@ChristopherPeart no, but he has the same authority in this case

@TimmyD Right.

@ChristopherPeart I'm officially a person. :)

4:55 PM
for the most part, high rep users have authority in situations pertaining to meta, except when overruled by mods

Or 3K+ for beta sites

The only thing 10k users have on meta over others is experience (generally).

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ You don't need high rep for that. You just have to be right.

@VoteToClose the irony

@ChristopherPeart Elected moderators have diamonds next to their usernames. But most users have some moderation privileges (reviewing, editing, closing, deleting) that come at certain reputation thresholds.

@Dennis Speaking of - shouldn't I no longer be able to see deleted questions?

5:00 PM
The reputation thresholds haven't changed yet.

Oh. That should be done in six to eight weeks, I'm guessing?

And they probably won't before we get our design.

Exactly evening here. Hello!

CMC: Form a five-piece band out of US Presidents. Obama plays trombone (reference above), and Bill Clinton plays saxophone, so you get those for free and just need to find three other Presidents playing instruments.

If that doesn't fix it, git.txt contains the phone number of a friend of mine who understands git. Just wait through a few minutes of 'It's really pretty simple, just think of branches as...' and eventually you'll learn the commands that will fix everything.

This is how I feel about Git

And as someone who last week spent five hours through the night getting IntelliJ to work with Git properly, I whole heartedly agree with that xkcd.

Hehe, git does have a learning curve that's for sure

Yeah, once I figured it out I haven't had any problems since.

@GabrielBenamy I've gotten better with it.
I used to do stuff like that all the time though. :P

8:12 PM
@GabrielBenamy I did that yesterday when I got errors in a project :)

@Pavel eh? intellij has git integration built in

So intellij gets confused on your behalf?

I know IntelliJ has Git built in
But it kept giving me errors
That it couldn't merge or something

I've used IntelliJ with Git

And then it broke on my friend's computer since we were working from the same repo

8:20 PM
@Pavel Fast-forwards?

I'm not sure what that means.
I'm kind of a noob...

@DJMcMayhem can confirm. school was recently cancelled because it rained.
it was like 2 inches of rain, so it was a good bit, but still

@Pavel Two or more commits before a push to upstream, has to be manually resolved. Most frequent error throwing issue.

@GabrielBenamy I think these are almost all of the git commands I use (minus "rebase -i HEAD~1" and similar, but I feel I'd be teaching bad practice...): pastebin.com/UG7iUSQC I hope that helps if you ever do decide to give git another shot :)

Yeah, that was probably it. Also, pushing at the same time as someone else.

8:25 PM
I feel like git squash is kind of an under appreciated third wheel of the merges

I have not heard of that...

@Pavel That shouldn't really be an issue, unless you time it basically perfectly.

I use squash/fixup in rebase -i, I agree on it being underappreciated

I'm going to go with "Sudden black magic induced computer failure"
It can strike at any moment

@Downgoat I don't get mad at "Bork" ... I just think you're talking to me and get confused.

8:28 PM
Bork bork?

@Pavel If you see AdmBorkBork (or slight variations, like Adm BorkBork) someone online, it's very likely me.
