> 'Truth is such a naked lady,' Mr Campion spoke softly. 'Apparently in well-regulated country families no one is so indelicate as to stare at all of her at once.'
- Margery Allingham 1955, "The Beckoning Lady"

such a coincidence you'd post that after I read lots of conspiracies on reddit lol

It does seem relephant 61 years later.

listen to the hummingbird, whose wings you cannot see, listen to the hummingbird, don't listen to me. #LeonardCohen

I find Allingham oddly comforting, in her ability to cut to the quick of the human condition without tipping over into permissiveness on one side or heartlessness on the other.
Also, on writing:
> I write every paragraph four times - once to get my meaning down, once to put in anything I have left out, once to take out anything that seems unnecessary, and once to make the whole thing sound as if I had only just thought of it.

So about that color code to swatches thing

10:52 AM
@joojaa ?

11:29 AM
@Cai !
Basically i had made a conceptual tool to help myself use rgb color codes by pasting from web. And i would like to expore usecases to see if the tool i have is adeqate or if it needs changed @Cai

Cai
@joojaa ok, that sounds good
I'll give it a try if you want

Wantr to test my pre alpha version

Cai
Would have come in handy a lot yesterday actually
but yeh I'll give it a try :)

It will simply open a window for you to paste color codes like "#123456" or short ones "#123"
It will consume and ignore " ,;\t\n[]{}"
So you can drop in a list like
#224789, #123
#223678
Once you close the window it will make a swatch out of every one

Cai
Cool, got it... I've got some color svg icons to sort out later so I'll give it a go

11:38 AM
Oh and use on a RGB document or itll CMYK convert it silently.

1 hour later…

sup sup sup

1:31 PM
@DᴀʀᴛʜVᴀᴅᴇʀ half day!

ha, I thought this was a blah blah day, lol
color palette decisions for a site are hectic

everyone knows best

1:50 PM
any plans for this four day weekend?

2:00 PM
@DᴀʀᴛʜVᴀᴅᴇʀ you invest in any smart lights? I've been mulling over the idea of picking up Philips Hue

Philips Hue are interesting and there's others out there too.

ive debated it. I've really been debating the LED in covers: youtu.be/5uCL79X24kA

I know some people with hue and with Lifx

I'm very interested in the compatibility with Amazon Echo / Google Home / HomeKit

The lighting market is collapsing so companies are trying to institute smart bulbs because the LEDs dont last quite as long and the tech itself will be obsolete even quicker

2:04 PM
but none of these devices do everything I want unfortunately

I was reading a really interesting article on this the other day, how the light bulb industry needs incandescents

Well thats what you get for lying to us for 80 years
It was never a hight volume market untill they engineered it to be.

@JohnB let me know how the echo goes.

No mass consumables no money

2:06 PM
So they try to collude you to pay for something irelevant

@Ryan looking at some of the stuff it really does feel like some planned obsolescence is built in. For example the Hue Light Strips, they just seem so ridiculously expensive for what they do. Non-single addressable bulbs? That's been a feature for a long time in other LED strips

Yeah, thats the main thing. But the companies need that. Manufacturers are pulling out of the light business entirely because LEDs that last 10 years just aren't enough to sustain a business model

@DᴀʀᴛʜVᴀᴅᴇʀ my biggest disappointment is that there's no capability for synched audio if you have multiple devices. They push so hard to get you to buy a bunch of them, but they can't synch music playing throughout your house? C'moooon. If they did that, I'd buy a bunch instantly

Gee new tech makes old business models obsolete who would have tought

have you heard anyone debunk the life of the hue bulb?

2:09 PM
its kindif the IDEA of progress

I would love to have LED strips bordering my windows for festive decorations, but I want to be able to set the color of each bulb. C'mon Philips, make it happen

We are not beholden to your profits

@joojaa pass the peace pipe yo

Heh

I have a couple Raspberry Pis that don't see much use, I'm considering picking up one or two reels of these and just hacking it together myself

2:16 PM
Not a big dieal just connect them to GPIO and install software

it'd be most fun to make my own control interface

3:00 PM
wee just ordered an engraved Swiss Army knife to give away at a convention. Hopefully its a good prize

nice!

We almost got an RTIC cooler to give away but transport seemed problematic so then it dawned on me that this could be really cool
found one that has almost all of the functions an installer would use in the field when setting up our equipment too

@Ryan hey, good promo!

thanks!
Now I just have to promote the raffle, redo our signage, and make sure people know about it
minor details lol

Q: We're Enabling Display Ads on Select Stack Exchange Sites

Tim PostWe knew that the Stack Exchange Network would eventually play a bigger role in contributing to the financial end of our business, but we didn't know how long that would take. Turns out, it was roughly six years from the time that we decided to put all of you in charge of the topics that Stack Exc...

Blender and UX made the cut but not us. Hooray for being viewed as not "programmer-y" enough for monetization

3:21 PM
So long as they maintain their awesomely strict rules on the type of ads shown on SE sites, I'd be alright with it

@Cai you still thinking about getting an adjustable desk there is a special for black friday
@JohnB any holiday plans this year?
@Ryan you working two day weeks or taking half of dec off?

I am tempted to go to Penn State's bowl game, likely if it's in Florida but if they get the Rose Bowl then I'll pass

@DᴀʀᴛʜVᴀᴅᴇʀ huh?

@JohnB sounds like fun there
@Ryan you said you had a ton of vaca time, you doing anything with it or cashing it out?

yeah if it's the Outback Bowl or Orange Bowl I think I'll go, I've been to both before and it's always fun

3:32 PM
it was already cashed out. My annual was the end of October

@JohnB I love a good tailgate
@Ryan ah, so that is where your computer fund is now?
you think you will have made your purchase yet? the next two weeks are the best times to buy a computer

@JohnB if its the Orange Bowl I'll buy you a beer, assuming I'm in town

you're on! Though admittedly I was really hoping for the Outback Bowl because I have a friend in Tampa who I can mooch off of :D
but then Michigan went and lost a game and now I'm not so sure that's what it'll be

@DᴀʀᴛʜVᴀᴅᴇʀ I'm still torn. The main reason for wanting the new computer was processing power to get back to making tutorials. With the new position that allows me to buy the computer I have less free time to work on tutorials

what dates would it be? I think Ill be in Tampa around mid Dec.

3:35 PM
Catch-22

when I go, I think Im going to have a little fun and book a shark fishing trip.
you guys arent into fishing though right, lol

I can't do boats, I get seasick :P
Bowl games will be around New Years

Im into drinking. Fishing is a lot like drinking, only pretending to care about fishing

8 hours later…
11:14 PM
@BESW hehe the last iteration is very honest

@johnp It's very similar to Peter Elbow's "voyage out, voyage back" concept.

sounds a bit like my refined mess concept lol
that's very nicely put
my problem is not letting go entirely...even when I'm supposed to be in that mode
i have a habit of reading design books and theory to boost my confidence, but effectively I just end up imposing more restrictions on myself

I feel that.
I think this is also relephant to the subject:
> He did not arrive at this conclusion by the decent process of quiet, logical deduction, nor yet by the blinding flash of glorious intuition, but by the shoddy, untidy process halfway between the two by which one usually gets to know things.

11:36 PM
hehe sounds more realistic, alright
