2:31 AM
Pretty sure hillary just said reagan was great

10 hours later…
12:07 PM
@Himarm pretty sure she also said "we need to make america great again"
she just used a couple different words "we need everybody to help make our country what it should be"

the middle of the debate trump was on fire the begining he was struggling

beginning he showed composure which was needed, i kept yelling at the tele... KEEP IT TOGETHER DONALD

right at the end hes all "nasty woman"
and i died laughing
why are you taking 20 million dollars from saudi arabia? they litterally push gay people off buildings
she just ignored it

people are flipping out that he wouldn't say last night that he would accept the outcome of the election.... why should he blindly accept the outcome if it was rigged .

"mrs clinton its been said you used your charity as a pay to play facilitator while secretary of state " " well ive helped people and will completly ignore your question"
im sitting here like... al gore?
really?
this really just happened when bush was elected
he contested florida for what, a month?

12:18 PM
yeah
at least

making binding statements about something volitole
"why do you say this election is rigged"
"because you people let hillary run?"
he was really smooth on his taxes too
"he hasnt paid taxes"

because she rigged it against bernie, why wouldn't she do the same now

"you have had 30 years to change those laws and you didnt, and you wont, because your owned by warren buffet, and george soros"

she had 30 years to try to fix the tax laws. or at least show that she wanted to change them
jinx

and he mentioned how tose said billionaires also take advanage of deductions

12:23 PM
although I heard Buffet said no he didn't and released his returns
this had me rolling....
I wish this actually happened like right after a debate or something

i saw that a few days ago
i need this car
heres a check
what aobut my kids
check
by hunny have funwith mr trump
"obama care is needed" "your husband doesnt agree with you"
lol
Bill always fking up her life

looking at his old interviews tho, the guy has had the same hair cut for 30 years
Was he even there last night? the camera never showed him

they didnt pan to the audience all night
from what i remember

no, but even after we saw all trumps family, but not bill

if i was hillary id keep him hidden
they paraded his sex victiums at the last debate
stick him onthe back burner most of her negative press comes from him lo

12:29 PM
news says he was there
if trump could have kept his 80s demeanor and tone he be winning hands down, but he gets too excited
but yeah dude has wanted to president since then too, he might have waited too long

God. You guys weren't in Mos, so, I figured you were in here complaining about Hilary ;)

well party dissatisfaction has reached a peak

@steelerfan GOOD MORNING!
I AM FIRED UP

and the republicans ran through the viable candidates the last 2 elections

@Skooba HAHAHA! Well, that's what this room is for. What are you fired up about?

12:37 PM
@steelerfan how awful Hillary is

Oh my.
There was actually a Trump ad at the movies last night.

Maybe Jon Voight called in a favor lol

It was actually a good ad. I liked it.

5.7% of theclinton foundation money in 2014 went to charities

It was a young woman talking about being attacked and how she survived because she was able to carry a gun in her purse.

12:40 PM
your watching it and patting the gun in your purse?

@Skooba Is Voight a Trump supporter?

and the whole Haiti thing. And even Chris Matthews called her out on taking money from the banks, then she ignored donald calling her out on taking millions from the saudis

Hehehe! I don't carry a gun in my purse...just in my car ;)

"why do you take 20 million from people who push gays off buildings, mistreat women"
"well my foundation cured aids"
lol no

@steelerfan thatta girl
as a Life Member of the NRA, I must say I am proud

12:44 PM
I must say...Ivanka Trump is stunningly beautiful and carries herself extremely well while Trump's other daughter is just...ugh.

@steelerfan wife likes ivanka too. I think she used the word "fabulous"

@Skooba Oh, you didn't know that? Everyone around here makes fun of me for it ;) I think it's because most are from Europe and just aren't used to it.

i didnt even know he had 2 daughters
god the younger won looks a little dead behind the eyes like paris hilton

@steelerfan Gosh that reminds me too, I better get my conceal carry permit soon

He had a daughter with his mistress, who he ended up leaving his first wife for and he eventually married her. He left her for his current wife.
@Skooba Have you ever had one before?

12:48 PM
im glad he keeps her hidden
she looks really stupid

@steelerfan nope. haven't really needed one.
@Himarm kinda like jfks sister

@Himarm Yeah...she just doesn't mesh well with the first three kids. I know that Ivanka has always been his favorite.

@steelerfan Tiff came from the second marriage right, while the other are from the first?

ivanka seems smart and classy
the 2 old sons seem kinda durpy too

@Skooba Well, be prepared to go through a huge screening process ;)

12:51 PM
@steelerfan meh. i alread have a TWIC credentials, and PA its one piece of paper and you get a same day decision
@Himarm eric talks like a robot

@Skooba Yes. Marla Maples is her mother. Trump left Ivana...who was beautiful, sophisticated and classy for Marla Maples. Sad.
@Skooba Oh, really? You don't have to go through a class?

@steelerfan nah. PA is only goes blue because of Philly. So state laws are usually more center

I remember my class and I had a really cool cop. I was asking about self defense if someone broke into my house. He said Make sure that you kill the person and make sure that they're completely in your house. If they "happen" to be standing in your doorway, drag them inside. Oh my.

yeah ive heard that alot too
if you shoot their leg
they can sue you
and they live
if you shoot them in your yard, they can sue you

@steelerfan HAH! YES!
yeah "pain and suffering" damages

12:58 PM
you would assume that while you were commiting a felonly you loose some rights
but noap

Yeah. My husband always told me the same thing. "If someone has entered my house without permission, they aren't leaving alive."
Time to go. See you guys.

@steelerfan have a wonderful day!
@Himarm yeah or you know if you werent a citizen to begin with

oh yeah did you notice hillary told everyone the nuclear responce time
4 minutes from the presidents call to the missles being launced
i duno if that was alloud or not

i think that was maybe not common information but i've read stories from the cold war that talk a lot about the inner working of how a nuke would get launched
cause there were a LOT of close calls
and one time the only reason it didn't happen is a guy took an extra 5 seconds to think and realized something was screwy, and they found that somehow a training program was running in the radar

that was the russians wasnt it
that almost launched a nuke

1:10 PM
nah it was us
At 9 a.m. on November 9, 1979, a low-level Air Force officer sat down at a computer and booted up a training program that would simulate what would happen if the Soviets fired 1,000 nuclear missiles at America at the same time.
Unfortunately, what he didn't know was that his computer was hooked up to the mainframe in the main NORAD control room. When he began the simulation, computers from NORAD to the Pentagon started reporting that every nuke in Russia was on a collision course with the USA
the Russians almost launched due to a science experiment
On January 25, 1995, scientists in northern Norway launched a completely benign research rocket designed to study the aurora borealis. But even though the Cold War had been over for some years, Russians still collectively soiled themselves when their radar picked up something that looked almost identical to an American ballistic missile flying straight toward them.

Stanislav Yevgrafovich Petrov (Russian: Станисла́в Евгра́фович Петро́в; born 1939 in Vladivostok) is a retired lieutenant colonel of the Soviet Air Defence Forces. On September 26, 1983, just three weeks after the Soviet military had shot down Korean Air Lines Flight 007, Petrov was the duty officer at the command center for the Oko nuclear early-warning system when the system reported that a missile, followed by another one and then up to five more, were being launched from the United States. Petrov judged the report to be a false alarm, and his decision is credited with having prevented a...
ah this is the guy i was thinking

Allegedly, Yeltsin had only a minute left to decide a course of action when the radar announced that the rocket had fallen into the ocean without killing anybody. It would be hours before they could figure out that the object had been a scientific test and not just a really ineffective nuclear missile.
we don't hear as about Russia's close calls because... well its Russia!

SQB
@Himarm aren't they a charity themselves? Employing people who do charitable work?

@SQB most of the money they make goes to internal salaries, they dont really DO anything with the money

SQB
1:17 PM
@Himarm Yes, salaries of people who do the charitable work. You wouldn't fault Doctors Without Borders to pay salaries to the doctors they employ, would you?
3

if you are being paid to do it, it really isnt charity anymore

@Skooba /facepalm

@DrRDizzle it may be "humanitarian"

Giving money to humanitarian efforts is charity.

yes but not by those being paid
its by the ones donating
if you are being paid for your charity, it is no longer charity.

SQB
1:23 PM
> Charitable grants are not a major focus of the Clinton Foundation, which instead keeps most of its money in house and hires staff to carry out its own humanitarian programs.

thats a job

What happened to Mos Eisley

SQB
@Skooba I stand corrected.

@Skooba That is 100% false. Registered charities almost all have employees as well as volunteers. They are still charities.
2

SQB
Although it wouldn't be a stretch to assume that the doctors in Doctors Without Borders get paid considerably less than doctors at home, meanwhile risking life and limb. So that's still charity on their part.

1:24 PM
@DrRDizzle yes, and the ones who are paid have a job. I am not saying it is wrong. The best charities need to pay their employees to effectively carry out the work. but the employees are not charitable. they are employees

@Skooba Employees at a charity.

@DrRDizzle All that means is they have a job at a company that does nice things.

Why is this called the news room?
2

@SQB does that mean every member of the military is charitable?
@KyloRen politics room might be a better name now

@Skooba No, it doesn't. AFAIK, all charities are non-profit organisations, not companies.

1:27 PM
it was orignally started during Brexit.

@Skooba, so Mos Eisley is no more?

@DrRDizzle but you as an employee are profiting

@Skooba So?

@KyloRen this is just where we talk about off topic political stuff

@Skooba, so where is Mos Eisley?

1:29 PM
@KyloRen where it has always been
i pinged you over there

@Skooba, Ok I see now

@DrRDizzle so that makes you a normal person. the organization may be a charity, but you as an employee are not

I feel sorry for you guys right now.
2

@Skooba People can't be charities. They can be charitable, which people who work for charities tend to be.

@DrRDizzle no. people who donate their time are charitable
meaning those who are not compensated for it

1:32 PM
id say doctors without boarders still counts, since the doctors are recieving essentially a living expense salary, about 18k a year instead of the 100k they would make working normally, so they are giving up their safety and comfort
but if your making a normally salary at a charity, your just a normal person
and your not being charitable unless you yourself are making some form of sacrifice
anyway this is what the controversy with thesecharities is about
they raise the money, they pay their people
but nothing really is done
most of the hati prodjects fell through

@Himarm that was esentially my point. I admit I may have went off the rails a bit.

but the money was still payed out to their people
so yes they used X million dollars to help the people of hati, but at the end of the day, their people got paid, and hati got nothing

@KyloRen What are election like in Japan?

@Skooba, corrupt , just like every other place in the world

the red cross had similar "mis managment of funds" during hati too
their people got paid but the prodjects never materialized

1:43 PM
@Himarm thats the double edge sword of hiring CEOs from real business. They know hoe effectively run the business side of things, and that also means lining their own pockets
@KyloRen Do the debates get as heated and the population as divided and hateful toward each other?

the bigger potential issue, is that these charties pay corporations to build X
and the companies take the 100 million, and build a 5 million dollar structure
and the other 95 million was "expenses"

@Skooba, there is not really any debates as such , like America. But usually the most corrupt wins, just like anywhere else in the world

and these companies have suspicious connections to the people running the charities

@KyloRen to be a complete racists, I like to imagine the candidates would be dressed in samurai armor and just go at it while some anime characters commentate and/or cheer

pikachu death matches
i wouldnt mind if politicians just had to duel it out for their spots
risk their lives for what they believe in

1:49 PM
@Skooba, that would probably be the best outcome as none of the politicians are any good at this shit.

maybe an election to pick candidates
then a duel
between the top 2
pistols seem the best idea

what does the parliament in ukraine discuss

1:52 PM
you stole my cow you son of a bitch

seems like the US is tame
I would to see Nancy Pelosi go at it with Paul Ryan
Woman on my facebook discussing why my views are wrong. " Lets not make it what it used to be lets make it what it can be. We are hoping for change and a better fair future safe for our daughters especially."
She has no kids
I have a daughter. I want to bitch slap her
I would never hold Hillary up as role model to my daughter.

"20 million from saudi arabia, where they abuse women, and push gays off buildings"

It's so funny what politics do to friendships.

yes honey if your husband cheats on you just keep stay with him for politcal gain

Like I want to bitch slap her but then my wife will invite her over for dinner, and her husband and i will drink beers
Hillary will piss on your leg and tell you its raining. Donald will piss on your leg, tell you it is piss, but it will somehow help you, then after he is done give you $5.

1:58 PM

@Himarm I'm sure you remember how they had to literally change the wording on her website after Bill's accusers came back out.

i didnt see that

oh man, even snopes said its true
hahaha

she removed "The right to be believed"

2:01 PM
snopes has some suspicious backing, by her super pacs

yea snopes and politifact and pretty much bought by the dems

they had an email last week that said X saudi prince wants to talk to bill face to face
tell him bill will do it, if he donates 2 million

@Himarm this was one of the best parts
Wallace calling her out!
how do you "trade energy" with the rest of the world. Energy grids can only transfer so far
so of course all our energy is traded with "our neighbors"
what she meant was "oil and gas" but she doesnt want open borders for that, because that would mean more pipelines
so again, which is it hillary......

i love trumps closing line
"the demecracts havnt helped the african american communities, every 4 years they promise you stuff, then once they get their vote they say see you in 4 years"

Trump: Such a nasty woman.
frame that one

2:17 PM
whatever she said before that
with that line from trump
i was in tears
laughing

also the free college for anyone making under $125,000... dude if you are putting kids through a $125,00 is shit
the kids will still have to get loans and be in debt

i get free college
gibbme

either make it free for everyone or don't
I am of the "don't" camp

i could see some college price regulations, maybe, but at the same time the public school systems costs way more to run per student then private schools
so they clearly cant regulate that shit correctly
and the administration layer they add is were the price tag goes up

I have no problem with public schools, but then again I grew up in NJ where they spend the most per student

2:20 PM
chicago schools strike every year
for like amonth
they have some of the highest paid teachers as it is, though to be fair some of the schools suck
out here in the suburbs we have some really shitty schools, and the teachers make like 30k

I mean yeah I'd want to be paid more if there was a chance everydayy the students would riot and beat me up

in the city their making like 55-60

How the hell is Hillary not in Gaol, any other lacky would be in for life with what she did with her email fiasco

@KyloRen preaching to the choir with me and Himarm

but then again the nice suburbs the teachers are making 80

2:24 PM
@Skooba, I really do feel sorry for American's. It is like choosing between dog shit and cat shit for dinner, when you want steak

@KyloRen I saw a good post. Hillary is everything wrong politics, Donald is everything wrong with our culture.

@Skooba, oh so true!!!
But one of them is going to be president.... Should I slit my wrists now?

@KyloRen Well you should be safe in Japan. Both seem to not have a problem with Japan, except for maybe Trump wants your gov to pay for the protection we give it. which I am not really sure what that is. Everybody loves Japanese tech.

@Skooba, Japan has its own shit to deal with, but they will gladly take on anything that America asks them

@KyloRen might be time to go back to Australia lol

2:40 PM
well donald wants to pull troops out of japan
he said that last night
or at least make you guys foot the bill
but then i read you guys already foot most of the bill
but other countries dont

this was another great line "Wait til you see what happens in the coming years. Lots of luck, Hillary. Thanks a lot for doing a great job."
he basically said "gg hill"

gg

Since the pins are also gone...
This room has taken political discussion too far, and it's turned into mudslinging. That's not okay, and it stops, or this room does.
10
stop abusing stars, too

@ArtOfCode I was going to move some of the messages back from Trash, but I guess that works too.

@Randal'Thor I figured just redoing it was easier

@Randal'Thor With your permission:
in Trash, 1 hour ago, by Rand al'Thor
@Skooba Just because you're all nice to each other (the people in the room) doesn't mean the Be Nice policy is being followed.

5:03 PM
@MetaEd you'll need to re-type it if you want to pin it, oneboxes just turn up as links

(Rand al'Thor) Just because you're all nice to each other (the people in the room) doesn't mean the Be Nice policy is being followed.

@ArtOfCode Thanks.

np

5:14 PM
thunder rumbles in the distance

looking for the popcorn

{runs to microwave} Sorry, burned. Going to have to start over

@Randal'Thor Move the stuff.

@Terriblefan You're not the boss of me.

Is it possible to bring that stuff back from trash? It might be important to the transcripts at some point

5:18 PM
SFF mod, SFF main chat doesn't need suspended because people get offended by anything that goes contrary to their own beliefs.
@Randal'Thor I am 150% the boss of you. I may not have voted for you, but you're still an elected official and I am one of the People you serve. Also, I'd like to talk about Edgar Allen Poe with you and we can't do that if Mos is closed.
I may be a monster, but I'm a pragmatic monster.

@Skooba Yes, I could move it all back again. But the most important stuff is probably on the star-board already.

Well, I DID vote for him, so that makes me 151% the boss of him :P

And that Trash room is publicly visible anyway.

Hey, man, post-election we're all, like, equals?

@Randal'Thor I'll leave the final decision up to you. Even though trash is visible it would be a pain to sift through it.

5:21 PM
@Skooba This was all due to people sifting through our trash and taking offense at things they spent part of their lives to find.
In a just world, we'd just redirect those sorts to Tumblr.
"I've got 3 hours to waste! Time to actively search for something to offend me!"

@Terriblefan Well, I just don't want to have to sink to that level

@Skooba Honestly I'm surprised the flag trolls haven't just gone through Trash and gotten everyone suspended.
Since literally no one is "nice" all the time.

I stand by position that the users (any user on SE) was treated nice here. If we can not say anything bad about a politician, then I would like to go to a programming stack and flag everything bad said about a particular programming language.

@ArtOfCode I wouldn't accept that from that guy.
You know why.

5:28 PM
25 secs ago, by ArtOfCode
so does Jon Ericson, for that matter

The last paragraph of that answer particularly resonated with me:
> We've probably all failed this at one point or another. I certainly have, at least once already today... But, the point of the policy is to give us something to aspire to - rather than being content to wallow in yet another Internet cesspool, we should try to create something a little better.

My opinion on Jon is not a matter for discussion, as it is largely based on his failing to uphold the policy in the past.

Well, god help those if they say anything bad about Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Tim Cook, etc. etc.

Yes, it's hard to keep to this all the time - we all have some public figures whom we really dislike, whether it's Nigel Farage or Tom Brady. But it's a nice ideal to strive towards. And like I said earlier:
in Trash, 2 hours ago, by Rand al'Thor
One thing that sets SE apart from a lot of the internet is the Be Nice policy. Let's keep it that way. If you want to sling mud, there are more appropriate places to do it.

@Randal'Thor The issue here is that the news companies are not being nice, and that in turn extends any revelations they choose to omit into the not nice territory.
Mudslinging is supposed to be about slinging untruths.
Most of this is not mud.
It's angry truth.

5:44 PM
I hate to have to say this, but StackExchange has higher standards for discourse than the current US presidential election. You can generally still discuss what has been said, but it's not a good idea to repeat everything and make it your own, or to adopt the same general tone yourself.
4

@Jefromi Issue: no one is saying these things.
These are the things that must be said which go unsaid.
And by trying to stop them from being said, you're being part of the problem.
People can be offended... or they can move on with their lives. We're all still friends in Mos after the Brexit tone was basically "either you're against it or you're an idiot".

It doesn't have to be said in the Stack Exchange SciFi chat room though

I put this room on timeout to stop this argument. Now stop it.

You're right. We can go somewhere else to say it. And then you realize that you're literally repeating my argument back at me and doing the thing you say you're trying to stop from happening.
Sure, Art.

@ArtOfCode If you are going to shut down our discussion on why we like/want the room, and not allow us to defend ourselves, just close it and be done with it

5:56 PM
Except, little thing here: people who don't want to see this can go away and not be out of SE. We literally can't have these discussions in SE because thin skins matter more than freedom of expression.
Thin skins looking for trouble.

@Terriblefan Well, that issue may follow us where ever we go. At that point it may be time to leave, but just like anything large a single user/customer doesn't really matter.

Reddit wouldn't GAF. Do I want to go there? No.
