Q: Shot in the dark.....little information....early 80's

AcidmonkSo, I have this image in my head of a movie/tv show I saw when I was young (early 80's). I have very little to provide other than I remember a dark scene with a man standing outside a house looking into a window. It is dark outside and there's a light shining on the house. Inside, his wife or gir...

Q: "Take some time off" trope origin

BenIn a lot of crime thrillers, the main protagonist often gets frustrated at the case, flips out, and then his partner tells him to "take some time off", and sometimes "go see a movie". Where did that originate?

Q: Was Michael the protagonist of the movie within the movie of Thriller?

cdeIn Michael Jackson's Thriller, the video starts with Michael and his date on a walk. He's affected by the full moon and turns into a hideous man wolf, attacking his date. Cut to Michael and his date sitting in a theater watching the previous scene. Ergo, we are told that the werewolf scene is a m...

Q: A tag for movie object designs?

cdeTwo recent questions about the design of a piece of a movie, not exactly about a costume or wardrobe, or about a prop as far as its physical construction, makes me think we need a tag to refer to designs in a movie. The first is my question about the Hollowgasts Ala Slenderman in Miss Peregrine...

@ChristianRau I am...I just have to finish up a few things here first.

@steelerfan I didn't know you were working the night through. I could have called you earlier, sorry. :'(

A: Weekly Topic Challenge - Ideas

rand al'thorFilms based on Dan Brown novels To celebrate the release of the new film Inferno, let's have a topic challenge on the films based on Dan Brown's three bestselling novels: The Da Vinci Code (2006), Angels and Demons (2009), and the new Inferno (2016).

@TopicChallengeSuggestion I...I can't really believe he actually reads that stuff. ;-)
But nice idea anyway.
It might just be a little late for the challenge.

Q: Looking for reference to apparently obscure documentary

mickSome time in the mid-to-late 1990's, I saw on Australian TV a documentary about the conflict in Chechnya. The unique angle was that the filmmaker was able to interview people (leaders) on both sides of the conflict, and to film scenes of the conflict from the point of view of each. A powerful im...

Are questions okay? Because I'm wondering where the *record scratch* *freeze frame* "Yup, that's me. You're probably wondering what got me into that whacky situation" trope cobra from.

@NapoleonWilson Have you seen those movies? I have seen the first two.

@steelerfan Yeah, I'll probably also watch the new one soon. I like 'em quite a bit. I probably like Angels and Demons more, though.

SQB
@NapoleonWilson I hate Dan Brown.
Or rather his style of writing.

@SQB I have zero idea what you're taking about in the rest of the message. ;-) But yeah, I guess they can be on-topic (if it's a reasonably discernable "trope") and we had a few of 'em already.

SQB
I've one heard The Da Vinci Code described as "a good thriller, badly written". I completely agree.

4:30 PM
@SQB Well, I've only seen "his" movies anyway.
That dirty martini packs quite a punch, though. But I didn't really eat much before and I used 50% vodka.

SQB
@NapoleonWilson it's where a movie or episode starts with a crazy, chaotic situation, then we hear a record scratch, the frame freezes, and we hear the protagonist saying something the effect that we're now in for a flashback, which usually ends with the current situation.

@SQB Yeah, I got it after reading it a 3rd time. I'm also sure you didn't really intend to write "cobra" rather than "comes".

@NapoleonWilson Hahaha! Oh my! Well, I use like 10% vodka ;)

@steelerfan No, I mean the vodka has 50% alcohol.
And I used about 70% of it in the drink.
I made 5 cl vodka, 1 cl vermouth and 1.25 cl brine.

@NapoleonWilson Oh, God. I would be passed out on the keyboard by now ;)
Argh! Now you're Napoleon again! I'm so confused! :P

4:40 PM
@steelerfan I'll probably stay it now, though. You apparently like that more and it makes much less problems with accessing moderator chatrooms.

@NapoleonWilson WUT?!?! I never said that I liked it more. I just said that it was different and I needed to get used to it. Oh, God...I'm sorry if you thought that :'( I would love to see your handsome face rather than some movie character any day!! :))

SQB
@NapoleonWilson possibly.

@steelerfan Don't worry. I didn't really think it was a serious issue for you at all.

Cobra Kai!!
Woot!!

SQB
I propose a compromise, either NapoleonRau or ChristianWilson.

4:45 PM
Sorry. That's the first thing I think of when someone says "Cobra" ;)
@SQB Hehehe!

SQB
Not the Stallone movie?

@SQB Well, I love that movie...but, I saw Karate Kid first ;)
I love the way that this guy says "pig" It's AWESOME!!

@NapoleonWilson I vote for you to get that tattoo ;)

4:51 PM
@steelerfan Yeah...no.
Besides that, ravens and lizzards are cooler anyway.

Uhuh
@NapoleonWilson What about Lizard kings?

@steelerfan Meh.

:'(
OMG!!
THAT'S AWESOME!

@steelerfan Sorry, but this guy just never enticed me as much as everyone else.

@NapoleonWilson He doesn't entice me that much. I just think that he is cool.

I'm outta here!! :))

@steelerfan Have fun! Speak ya soon.

5:27 PM
Heh, speaking of it they got Angels and Demons on TV tonight. (Well, afterall they had Da Vinci Code last week.)

Ugh. I have The Da Vinci Code and I think one other, I've read some of the other ones, but I don't really like 'em.
But then, I'm not one for that kind of books.
And, like I said, I really dislike his style of writing.

Well, like I said, I just know the films. ;-)
But I also know that he's not really regarded as the pinnacle of literary brilliance. (Which is why Mr. al'Thor's suggestion of the topic actually surprised me.)
Meesa also me gotsa me da ultimate Dawn of Justice Blu-ray fromma shop taday. \o/
