2:05 AM
lets see @johnp or anyone really around? @RedRiderX ?

I'm around but admittedly a lurker

I just need an opinion on audio quality. My laptop could barely keep up when making this video. I tried to clean it up a little but think its still really really bad.

@Ryan Are the tolerances such that someone accidentally opening the door would ruing the whole thing?

Debating on publishing it or starting over to see if I can get it better
When developing film you put the film, a can opener like thing, and this enclosed reel thing into a big sealed bag. It then has sleeves for your arms to go in and you transfer the film from the canister to the reel blind in the bag
Now if you're talking about processing from negative to paper, than ya that would be another issue entirely

@Ryan It's serviceable, it gets a little tinny on parts. What mic are you using?

2:16 AM
Just the built in Mic on my mac. I have a proper one at my day job that I can take home with me I just forgot to

Ah I'd say that could help you quite a bit.
But like I said it is serviceable.

yeah think I'll hold off, redo the whole thing and guess publish it on Friday or Sunday instead. Shoot
thanks for the feedback!

Hey no probs

7 hours later…
9:20 AM
@Luciano Please try not to force a style on other users when editing. I understand that questions are clearer and more to the point without any preamble, but please allow people to have their own styles and personalities :)
Getting rid of 'hi', and 'thanks' are great. If someone wants to explain what a project is for in a single paragraph, just let them. Lots of users even have to get used to the fact that their posts can be edited at all.

10:06 AM
Hi @Vincent I'll tone my edits down a notch :)

hey @Vincent, @Luciano

1 hour later…
11:26 AM
@PieBie o/

YOU
Hello
Is there any good way to add vintage effect to a photo?
like yellowish vintage

Hi @YOU yes, photoshop and other image editors have lots of adjustments (saturation, hue)
Have you searched for any tutorials? there's an interesting tut here youtube.com/watch?v=_B8C5sHX2rM

YOU
Please advice me with a article

YOU
Thank you!

11:57 AM
@Luciano thanks :)
and hi all

12:29 PM
morning all

afternoon o/

was going to try to redo my video real quick so got to work a tad early... lawn crew is working outside >:(

1:22 PM
morning @JohnB

hi!

I'm still trying to decide on whether I should redo my latest tutorial video to try for better audio quality

the peanut tutorial? Or one you haven't uploaded yet?

ah. yeah that is a bit muffled :\

1:29 PM
after about a minute of recording my weak laptop was struggling with the harddrive and fan and such making a ton of noise
I tried to fix it in Adobe Audition but it was pretty terrible
Redrider called it, "Serviceable" and another friend said, "Its not perfect but it wasn't enough to bother me"
What's your take? Bring a microphone home and redo it or publish as is?

I don't have any difficulty understanding what you're saying, so I wouldn't say it's crucial

hah I just redid it on my work computer since I can. At home it took 1hr15 minutes to save. On work computer its taking 1 minute 37 seconds.

wow!

yeah I really need a new computer at home :(

1:55 PM
just don't wait until your comp dies, like I did :(

@Luciano ouch thats unfortunate. At least when that happens its usually not the harddrive so you can try to get the HD out and not lose your data

@Ryan been there

In my case it was exactly my hard drive

same here :D
I was prepared and had everything backed up just under a day prior

I had the most important things backed up, but I lost a ton of photos I didn't back up

1:59 PM
:(

2:11 PM
well I don't think mine is anywhere near dying, its just too slow for what I'm trying to do in terms of screen recording design tutorials

I thought mine was not dying until the hard-drive suddenly failed on me. It was also slow...

that shape is so awkward and enormous

another cube
if you have to open the case very often, the 45 degree is not a bad idea

until you try to put it under your desk instead of on top of it

i suppose it's made huge like that on purpose, because as a gamer you will want to show it off to your friends
bad news is you can't stack anything on top of it :D

Q: The accepted answer and not accepted answer blips have quite similar color

AbhimanyuThe accepted answer blip and the not accepted answer blip (vote accepted on and vote accepted off) have quite the same color. To many who are not visually accurate very much like myself, it becomes really confusing. In this question, I misclicked on the accepted answer to unaccept it thinking I d...

3:23 PM
ah I meant to ask earlier in the week, how did your "serious gaming" session go over the weekend @Vincent?

ended up being canceled :(

aw boo :(

I invited some ppl to come and play magic, but only one responded
so I ended up having time to play with my new Wacom. You win some, you lose some
Then again, tonight we will play Seasons

more Wacom painting!
make anything pretty?

sketching out some handlettering

3:27 PM
In Illustrator or Photoshop?

a phrase I've been wanting to turn into lettering for about two years now, finally picked it up
Ps
but I intend to turn it into a vector piece

ooh great concept!

not really happy with the composition yet, but really happy with how I can move around my 'pencil' sketches when it turns out they are not properly positioned
thx

If you haven't already you might want to try one of these graphicdesign.stackexchange.com/questions/37839/…
That looks really good though!

Yeah I'm going to explore the Ai options later. Did some playing with the brush, and it looks very promising
but first I'd like to get a good hold of it in Ps
and thanks! bows :)

3:31 PM
what I just linked at least Lazy Nezumi and I believe Hej Stylus works in both PS and AI
I don't like Lazy Nezumi for painting / masking but for sketching/drawing its a huge help I find

hm, interesting
The one thing I've found out I think annoying in Ps is the fact that the brushes are... imperfect

hows that?

If I apply and re-apply brushes on an area to give it good colour intensity, these jpg-like artifacts appear
but maybe I'm working in too low a res

not sure without a screenshot

If I can't find anything about it, I will ask a question on it :)

3:35 PM
I think if Mac doesn't come out with / announce anything new by October I'm going to definitely be switching to Windows either an All-In-One or Laptop

@JohnB have you been playing any boardgames lately?

yeah but nothing new, I'd like to try out Pandemic. A friend has it, I always just forget to suggest we play it
Seasons looks fun though!

doesn't seem to be too complicated, but I hear good stories about it

hi

hey joojaa

3:43 PM
I was at a job interview at the school of arts

did it go alright?

yeah at least they said so.

nice!

hi joojaa, that's cool

Answered all the concerns that they had. IN most cases before they asked them

Cai
3:53 PM
@Vincent how come you edited but didn't delete this answer?

@Cai hehe, that has a reason
@Ryan are you done with that?

@Vincent that being?

@Cai we had to try out some obscure functionality only available to mods
@Ryan there's a redaction waiting for your approval :D

Cai
Im intrigued

hmm does it not do a blue diamond notification for redaction approvals?

3:55 PM
the poster placed their mail address in the message. If that's edited, the address is still accessible in the revision history.
no, it creates a flag @Ryan

I don't even see it in any notification list

hm... I see it in mine.

I see a flag
one sec ill show you screenshot

@Cai Mods can 'redact' an edit, so it actually gets purged from the database, but it needs approval from another mod

Cai
Aah I see

3:57 PM
so when people post images with their credit card or letterhead or some other stupid thing that can still be seen in Edit History we can remove it

and yes, there is coughmoronscough who do that.
deleted.

Cai
Any need to protect that Q?
I have some recently acquired powers I need to exercise lol

might be a plan. There's lot of chaff on there

Cai
My thoughts exactly
Done

damn this is a well designed page:
from learning point of view. OK so he does some things a bit clunkily but still

4:08 PM
cool convinced a girl I photographed once before to meet up and take some new pictures tonight. Moar content to make tutorials with!

4:22 PM
cool! bye, c ya

@Luciano take care

I'm off too.
see ya guys 'round!

bye @Vincent

5:23 PM
bye

6:13 PM
hello room

hello stranger

any craic?

craic?

haha thought you'd recognize the irish slang...any crack? -what's up
always gets mistaken for drugs

not much. Gotta redo the video I finished the other night. Not happy with the audio quality from my built in mic so going to take my work mic home with me

6:18 PM
was wondering if there were any cloud based editors you could use at home
so you wouldnt be relying on ur own cpu for processing
photoshop cc cloud was released for similar effect in CA or somewhere but I'm not sure how well it speeds up editing, if at all

I just need to buy something at least as powerful as my work computer which is an i7 with 16gb Ram and just an integrated graphics card

yeah, just thought it might be a nice option in the interim. I used to hate processing/converting videos
never mind 3d drawing references

But now I just decided I want to go on a big trip and need to try to save $200/mo for the next year to be able to afford it :\ basically laptop + macro lens + filter will be my focus and put off monitor and film cameras and smaller trips and such to try and make it happen
And ^ will happen unlike some things when I say I'm "considering". Nope, I made up my mind and this big trip is happening either next year or the following depending on budget and work. Hopefully I can save enough to go next year

hehe that's great! and if you have any other temptations get the rubber band out :P
just think how happy you'll be when you get ur laptop

you ever seen the flower fields of South Africa?
Until about 2 hours ago I didn't know they existed

6:31 PM
no, never been to Africa

i mean photos

haha seemed more likely (need coffee)
they look amazing...you thinking of going?

Set on it
A guy I know here in Orlando but originally from there posted those to Facebook today

very nice...the photo with the rusty car looks otherworldly

Another friend of mine lives there and has been trying to get me to come visit for a while.
I'm sold. Just need to save $1800 USD for the flight

6:36 PM
that would be spectacular for macro shots

the flowers are only during Aug/Sept
gives me one year to save and if I don't hit the mark I'll go the following year

nice deadline!
you have me googling flower fields now...
south of france...there are plenty in Holland too...not wild though
as far as i can see

Yeah I've seen Holland photos before. Not sure about France. I had no idea about South Africa though.
According to my friend its the most biodiverse flower fields in the world
If I could pick up enough freelance / tutorial ad revenue in time I'll stay for a few months. One of the few perks of being single at my age might as well take advantage of it haha

you'll have lots of fun over there. lol true
you could even go on safari if you stayed long enough

why does not Adobe do side dependent offsets?
I mean its perfectly possible to do.
image form my post here

6:53 PM
has the offset path thing been updated in recent years?
i love inkscapes offset functions

@johnp well they added the inside outside stroking its a offset
But again, had the engineering requirement (same as design biref essentially)
Said counterclockwise side and clockwise side then we would be able to set strokes on sides of open paths.

so you want to offset open paths?
perhaps you could add it to your range of illustrator plugins ;)
im debating whether to get lazynezumi
i can see it's great for lineart but im wondering how well it would work for sketching/crosshatching

7:09 PM
I'm thinking about investing in shirts to promote my tutorials.
yay for marketing!

@johnp i could but doing a offset is a bit nasty in terms of computation. There is however a write up on pomax github page so shouldn't be impossible to implement. Just that the javascipt API is really show for stuff like this.

lol. you could do some follow-along tutorials and ask users to post their work to your site?

@Ryan maybe you should do a crazy low cost kickstarter?

i see

I don't think that'll work just yet @johnp but once I have more subscribers and Instagram followers I will for sure do stuff like that
right now I'm thinking shirts to start with to give out to some friends that promise to actually wear it and then as soon as I hit 100 subscribers maybe do some sort of prize giveaway
I think once I publish the video I just made (but have to redo) it'll go a long ways. Its really that good of a video in terms of content so I'm willing to promote it a bit more than the others
Amazingly that peanut video got a lot more attention than I expected too

7:21 PM
lol
what was the title

Rounding with Levels but I was more thinking on Instagram

i dont mean to question a marketing expert but will the shirts idea promote the site much you think? or is it a specific set of people who'll wear them?

And it is by the way possible to offset only on one direction by playing around with brushes, but taht is a hack

I think the shirts could be very helpful if done well and while it certainly helps if its worn by someone who's going to be around Designers and Photographers you never really know

yeah if you go a group of photographers wearing it, that'd be excellent
if you even gave it to a few photography tutors/classes?

7:28 PM
Walking around a park or mall or college campus or something with a shirt that says, "Best Free Photoshop Tutorials" or something and the link then I could easily see two or three people checking it out

yeah
Gopher it @Ryan !

so that doesn't need to be a photographer, that could be anyone. If they get stopped and aren't really a photographer they can just say its their friends brand and talk me up anyways

8:27 PM
@johnp do you understand that Lichtenstein stroke question?

i do but i dont know a solution that's fast for illustrator really
id do that sort of illustration in photoshop myself

whats the stroke? the entire thing? or the smaller ones going across?

if you can use a multistroked hair brush in illustrator like photoshop and vary the pressure maybe
in that case it looks like the black was drawn over the white?

I don't get what he wants a single stroke to look like

could use 2 rounded stroked lines and blend between but that's not a great sollution in my opinion
just looks like a hair highlight, dont have my tablet to hand right now to try it in illustrator

8:32 PM
but is this what he wants?
or that?

oh i never considered that. i was thinking of drawing the horizontal black strokes as the white negative space lines dont look even
compared to the black

I don't get where the pen is supposed to be
oh you thought the black part was the pen? That's a third option entirely lol

yup lol
can you use your summoner powers like in Final Fantasy?

hes got enough rep to come in here on his own. I linked him in a comment

i wish there were more illustrators in chat so i could eat their brains

8:40 PM
oooh but he does say, "I think about drawing one white stroke and using the effect to distort it" so might be my first sketch
BESW and Vincent both illustrate. JohnB knows Illustrator really well too
not sure if any do much lifelike stuff though if you're still trying to figure out the fabric creases

oh sorry, i mean like full on concept artist type illustrators
rather than illustration for design
digital painters i guess
haha i studied this fabric system book so i have most of that down, hopefully
may get some feedback before final inking to iron out any errors

nice to be able to drape awkward anatomy lol...baggy clothes ftw!
oh nice thanks

@Ryan its probably easier to make a white blob and draw the blaxk areas on top

another thing you could do...
have two strokes with variable width...the middle of the lines being thick and the ends thin so the middle lines merge when blended
the only thing is rounded corners, if the OP wants that
could draw a vertical line stroke and apply a jittered art brush and make the stoke width really wide also

9:38 PM
so much better with Yeti Mic
Now to wait for it to save again :(
work 1 minute 27 seconds... home it estimates 52 minutes

10:02 PM
tick. tock.

at least since the audio was good I only have to process once. When audio is bad I end up having to process it twice - once to bring it into Audition and then again to combine back with the footage

lol

cant get enough of these nihilist images lately xD i thought you could process the audio a little in premiere or aftereffects without another app

The audio was TERRIBLE with my built in mic so all you could hear was the fan. To clean that up I have to bring it into Adobe Audition but Adobe Audition can't separate Quicktime Audio from Video. So I have to first use Media Encoder to switch Quicktime (.MOV) to .mp4
Then for these long videos I load them into Premier to drop my website link in the corner.

10:18 PM
can i autotune your voice in Melodyne...imma make you a stahh

go for it! Just be sure to link my youtube and/or instagram for the fame :D

i suspect that the voices for the affinity tutorials are highly processed...they all have that weird Siri thing going on

on my work videos I've got a great preset down. If the audio wasn't pretty good already at home I saved it to my Google Drive before I went home today to use
Just didn't bother so I wouldn't have to process this one an extra time

10:32 PM
2 minutes!
then the question is when to publish it for maximum impactasaurus since I missed Wednesday 5pm

Ryanosaurus
hard to find live internet usage stats that are useful....would be nice to know for my future posts
might be a good idea to go by facebook stats as most people tend to have that on in the background

1 hour later…
11:48 PM
Guy Billout

well photo shoot done, video uploaded, good day
go learn something new people, there's something for everyone!
(if everyone is someone that uses photoshop)

very nice
