We can do $A\ast B=\{a \ast b; a\in A, b\in B\}$ with any binary operation. That's the reason for suggesting binary-operations and abstract-algebra.
I am not sure about products. But this tag can be understood as "product-as-binary operation" as discussed here: What should be in (products) tag?. But it is probably a stretch.
