Q: Non-hidden directory doesn't show in Explorer, but exists...in some sense(?)

XophmeisterI'm using IMAPSize to backup my mailboxes. The process just dumps the contents of your mailbox into .eml files on your disk. Anyway, the first mailbox I backed up shows up as I expect. However, the next one doesn't show in Explorer and, if I enter it in the path, it tells me that it doesn't exist...

@allquixotic if you plan properly, travel within the EU by air can be fairly rediculously cheap
so it may make sense ;p

1:37 AM
@allquixotic also, ping
quick resume question

@JourneymanGeek sure?

@allquixotic so, most of the technologies I've mentioned on the resume are software
Would it be correct to add things like "Rackmount and Blade servers" and "Storage Arrays" there?

my advice about resumes is to target the resume to the job you're applying for -- a software job doesn't care if you know about storage arrays; a sysadmin job doesn't care that you know Java or Python; and a network admin job doesn't care that you know Bash scripting

Yeah. Trying to get a general one to 'fork' off of

write to the job offering and nothing more, unless your accomplishments are rather incredible

1:52 AM
Yeaaah
I just realised my current version didn't include that, and it would be handy for data center jobs ;p

@allquixotic I beg to differ!
Weird

2:17 AM
Also, it would be super nice if I could just do my resume up as 'blocks' and fork/merge as needed ;p
I have a one pager, and 3 different versions of my 2 pager ._.

how do I disable a device in device manager, there is no disable menu item

3:09 AM
@CMDEmu Right click => Uninstall

wouldn't devcon let you simply disable it?

Q: Why does my IP become Google's ip when using Chrome on the mobile?

ozgurI couldn't find any similar issues on the internet. The problem is as follow. I am tracking every member's geo location (using db-ip) and everything is fine except mobile phones with Chrome browser. They always give me the result US Mountain View California ip:66.249.xxx.xxx. This is Google, I ...

Oddly enough, we ran into the same question on Super User: superuser.com/questions/1058935/…bwDraco 1 min ago

Q: Web browsing with Chrome unexpectedly passes through a Google proxy

anon187For some reason, I'm not able to post in some sites because I'm being detected as from another country. Then, I tested "what is my public IP" in many of those sites that provides this service. In some of them, they showed my actual public Ip but in some others it showed this IP which seems to be ...

This must be more than a coincidence.

Bob
4:37 AM
@allquixotic New UPS? So you bought it?
@kerbalspacebecky ? Still need the OVH server?
Ah @allquixotic answered :P

4:50 AM
@Bob that was a while ago, the Cyberpower one with PFC
by "new" I mean last year

@bwDraco maybe they made it a default
@Bob will prolly have to take a raincheck today
going to take some meds and nap

@JourneymanGeek Ill again? Get well soon...

@bwDraco "again" ? I'm not ill that often ;p

Bob
@JourneymanGeek ahh, k

@barlop Check this out: rahul2001.com/Archive/Lin-x-Win.zip

9:44 AM
@Bob Yeah, thanks though. Just wanted to be sure about the KVM/IPMI stuff. Probably don't need it anyway, but when you do need it, you really really need it.

Bob
too true

I've had my online.net server a couple years now, and I've only used the built-in iLO once, to install it initially, but it's quite possible that had I restarted it blindly after the chmod incident I might have needed it again

Bob
@kerbalspacebecky Yea, I've used mine twice. Once for the original install, and once for the ZFS recovery.
I should start calling it "the ZFS incident"

Speaking of chmod...
> FIX PERMISSIONS!
[root@vs2 ~]# uptime

Bob
o.O
@kerbalspacebecky Mirror everything onto a different server and try to boot?

9:47 AM
I'm probably going to end up reinstalling/migrating it before ever fixing that chmod, but I'm not sure whether to wait for the newer Broadwell-EP boxes to drive down the prices first
@Bob lol
Honestly, I really just need a 5-line script or something to mirror the permissions from another box, or just rsync
Or do the dumb noob thing of chmod -R 777 /

Bob
@kerbalspacebecky Would that actually work? I mean, are restrictive permissions required anywhere for boot?
I do know OpenSSH will refuse to use a private key stored in a world readable .ssh

Not that I'm aware

Bob
I have 321 MB of .snd files extracted from RA3... gotta figure out how to play them :\

VLC! It plays like everything

Bob
> EA created the music in a format and compression that no one is able to replicate
@_@
@kerbalspacebecky Was the first thing I tried.
>file "data\movies\afs01.snd"
data\movies\afs01.snd; data

9:53 AM
If VLC don't play it, nothing will o_0

@Bob Got a sample of one anywhere?

Bob

@Bob Well that's odd... MPC-HC plays it, 4 seconds long, barely audible though

Bob
@Jonno It does? Nice.
Thanks.
@Jonno Yea, I picked the smallest file for a faster upload :P
Longest one is some 15 MB

Honestly can't make out what the heck it's meant to sound like haha...
Almost silent for the first couple of seconds then a small sound towards the end...

Bob
9:59 AM
@Jonno It's a snippet of game music
@Jonno Any chance you can identify the codec?

AU/SND
Audio: 0x0000 48000Hz stereo 384kbps [A: adpcm_ea_r3, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, s16, 384 kb/s]'
adpcm_ea_r3

Bob
> adpcm_ea_r3
LOL

ea
Lol
r3

Bob
MPC-HC has specific codec support for some EA proprietary thing
wow.
Just wow.
Hm, apparently ffmpeg supports it too

Bob
10:01 AM
file doesn't recognise it though
@Jonno I thought VLC used ffmpeg... so they must've specifically disabled that codec.
That sucks.

Honestly, I can't blame them too much. Although it's surprising they left that functionality in MPC-HC really
Anyone storing their music collection in EA's Red Alert 3 codec deserves to be unable to play it ;)

Bob
Hm. The longer one... "Cannot render the file"
@Jonno Hey, I just wanted to convert it :(
Maybe I'll chuck ffmpeg at it
But then I'd have to install that first...

@Bob Haha, I more meant anyone who went and ripped their old CD's ... ;)

Bob
@Jonno Hm. Maybe half of them play O_O

Are they files you had to extract from somewhere?

Bob
10:07 AM
@Jonno Ya.

Something screwy with that perhaps? shrug

Bob
@Jonno Hm. Possible, but unlikely.

Maybe check if someone already did the hard work for you :P

Bob
@Jonno Couldn't find it :(

Bob
10:13 AM
@Jonno Nah, Uprising

Ah

Bob

So it refuses > 2 channels?!

Sure looks that way :s
Prior to that patch it was happy with anything >0 lol.

Bob
Maybe I should find a 2012 build

Guessing there are more problems than simply too many channels they couldn't be bothered to fix
"The Uprising tracks were never officially released, however an unofficial listing appeared on the official C&C forums. This was later deleted for an undisclosed reason."

Bob
10:16 AM
Worth a shot shrug

Hm.. Might still exist somewhere out there...

Bob
ffmpeg 1.2 from March 2013

That patch looked like it was for 1.1?

Bob
@Jonno The patch was Sept 2013

"ffmpeg | branch: release/1.1 "
Hmm
Worth a go then I guess ^^

Wait. 1 second? Uhm.
In 15 MB?
Oh wait that's 1 min 40s
> data\movies\afs01.snd: Invalid data found when processing input
ahhhh

:\

Bob
Hey, it worked... kinda. I have a single channel out of it in a 55 MB wav :P

Cool.. I wonder if the 6 channels is why MPC-HC ignored it?

Bob
@Jonno Most likely yea

Maybe certain cinematics and stuff encoded for surround...?

Bob
10:23 AM
@Jonno Quite possible!
Still, disallowing > 2 is worse than just providing the first couple channels...
Maybe I should raise a bug.
Then again, I don't think anyone really cares about this codec :P
Ok... these are not the sounds I'm looking for :(
@Jonno Guessed Channel Layout for Input Stream #0.0 : 5.1

Lol.. Does it actually play?

Bob
@Jonno Yea, the converted file plays. I'm not sure if it's missing anything though.
The actual music tracks I want are missing.

Ah I see what you mean

Bob
15 MB EA file converts to a 1.5 MB MP3
Then again I don't know how good the original compression was

According to someones guide here:
You can save files directly as WAV from the BIG files?

Bob
10:28 AM
@Jonno Yea, that's a different audio collection.

Ah

Bob
I've already gone through the larger files there and they're not music
Just ambient sounds in the large ones
Unit/building/etc. voiceovers in the small ones

Hm

Bob
@Jonno If you're curious, here's the big one: files.vulpin.com/index.php/s/K6U3AHv5dAknAGA

I was actually ^^
Virtual audio cable time ;)

Bob
10:40 AM
@Jonno Nup, I just split off all 6 channels... this is actually a legit 5.1 file o.O

@Bob Music? Cinematic? Any legit reason FFMPEG should be failing on >2?

Bob
@Jonno That one is from one of the cutscene movies.
I'm looking for the ingame music but I can't find it :\

10:56 AM
ok guys, I want to flash my router to something that is not 2+ years old firmware
what are the options?

Openwrt

is dd-wrt still a thing?

DD-WRT

dd-wrt is a dead thing, yeah

Hasn't had an official release in a long time but still maintained as a 'beta'
Dead? I'm running a version a few weeks old ;)
Last release was 2 days ago

10:58 AM
hmmm

Lol, most recent image for my router is dated 2013-04-22
And that was the Beta.

Whats your router?

Linksys EA2700
it is compatible

Bob
11:16 AM
CUWilhe_voiDiea.wav
Guess what that is :P

@Bob A wilhelm scream? xD

Bob
@Jonno Ayup
I don't recall hearing it ingame though

I think I've just been conditioned not to notice them unless I'm listening out for them now lol

Bob
That might explain it

Probably one death in insert high number here does one as an easter egg of some kind... Or every death is that and you've just never noticed ;)

Bob
11:24 AM
SQUISH5.wav
Where's the other squishes? o.O

@tereško ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2016/03-31-2016-r29387/linksys-ea2700 There's the latest beta firmware for your model, from 31/03/2016

Bob
@Jonno There's actually quite a few RA2 voices here that aren't used

use at your caution ofc
Potentially useful step-by-step instructions haeberling.blogspot.com/2014/11/…

@Bob Hmm, sound effects like that make sense to recycle I guess, as long as there are a few newish ones I imagine most people would miss them.

11:26 AM
Prolly going to sleep again in a bit ;p

Bob
@JourneymanGeek :(

@Bob I'll let you guys know tommorrow morning if I'm good for SCL

Bob
@JourneymanGeek Oh, only if you feel like it.
allq was a "maybe" anyway

s/feel like it/feel up to it/

11:39 AM
It's a FISH

12:06 PM
@JourneymanGeek SCL?

!!google scl game

oh
I've always wanted to run a telnet server but don't know how to :/

12:29 PM
@RahulBasu What platform?

Windows

net start telnet

Bob
@RahulBasu Why do you want to?

@Bob That;s what I was gonna ask

Bob
There's few, if any, good reasons to be hosting a telnet server rather than, say, SSH.

wwwwwwwwwww
ffs wrong window
@Bob telnet turns me on.

Bob
That's a reason to not run telnet. For everyone else anyway.

@kerbalspacebecky Was that your wwwwwwwwwwwwwindows password? ;)

Q: Is enabling telnet a security concern?

PacerierWhy is it that Vista comes with telnet disabled? If i enable it, is it a potential risk? Also, in the list there is "telnet client" and "telnet server". I'm wondering what's the difference between enabling each of them?

"Hackers have breached DDoS protection firm Staminus, a US-based company that offers protection against a range of network security attacks including, well, DDoS. The fraudsters have also reportedly stolen sensitive data from Staminus' database and dumped it online. Apparently the company was using the same root password for all its servers, and had stored credit card details in plain text. The alleged security nightmare doesn't end there, unfortunately. Hackers managed to expose crucial services via external Telnet, and reset all of Staminus' routers to factory settings, causing a network
lol

lol
@DavidPostill I was thinking of starting maybe a chat room for me and my friends for fun...

12:54 PM
Spark is an open-source instant messaging program (based on XMPP protocol) that allows users to communicate via text in real time. It can be integrated with the Openfire server to provide additional features, such as controlling various parts of Spark functionality from a central management console, or integrating with a customer support service Fastpath, allowing Spark users to login into queues, accept and forward support requests, use canned responses. Being a cross-platform application, it can be run on various systems. Installers for Windows and Linux are available on the official website...

thanks but telnet just looks more, well, geekish
:D

telnet is not a chat system

You can have something like a BBS
...

Bob
If you want "geekish" chat, use IRC

12:59 PM
GeekChat allows on-line users to chat (group instant message) with other users who are on-line and on the chat interface.

This allows real time discussions, but does not record such discussions (unlike forum threads).

GeekChat requires that Java be enabled in your browser.

Seems nice its just that no one uses java anymore
chrome doesn't even support it...

1:15 PM
@Bob
Did you manage to update and root your phone again in the end?

Bob
1:55 PM
@kerbalspacebecky Yup.
The root was fine and easy.
The update wiped my data.

2:12 PM
hmmm ... looks like buying sony walkman f805 to my kid brother was a really good idea
it a 4-ish year old now, with no scratches on the front, but the back of it is so worn, that the color has come off and the bare metal is showing

user@user-desktop ~/Portable software/Sigcheck $ wine /home/user/Portable-software/Sigcheck/sigcheck.exe /home/user/Portable-software/Sigcheck/sigcheck.exe
Is returning help everytime
user@user-desktop ~/Portable software/Sigcheck $ wine sigcheck.exe sigcheck.exe
Returns the data I want
I don't know what is going on. Relative paths and absolute paths are the same right?

Bob
@kerbalspacebecky I think I could've kept my data by not flashing HOME_CSC, but updating is weird anyway. Was an encryption error.
Maybe using the Samsung util to update would work better.
That's what Sammobile recommended but I did Odin cause that's what I had.
(They did have steps for Odin too, one for keeping and one for wiping data.)

Huh, it was encrypted?
I thought rooting decrypted it already

Bob
@kerbalspacebecky I don't know!
It came up with an encryption error.

Speaking of, I wonder when the next Mass Effect is coming out
Because that's totally related...

Bob
2:24 PM
Might've been cause of the failed flashes.
Who knows.
Wiping data via (stock) recovery worked anyway.
@Wally Maybe you need to quote the arg.
@Wally Wait. It's in Portable software but you're giving it Portable-software?
Those aren't the same thing...
So. Quote the args and use the correct paths.

user@user-desktop ~/Portable-software/Sigcheck $ wine /home/user/Portable-software/Sigcheck/sigcheck.exe /home/user/Portable-software/Sigcheck/sigcheck.exe
Is the same
wine "/home/user/Portable-software/Sigcheck/sigcheck.exe" "/home/user/Portable-software/Sigcheck/sigcheck.exe"
Is giving the same output.
Quoting is not helping

2:52 PM
Looks like cd ing into the directory is inevitable.
Just a stupid Windows thing

Well duh. You're specifying a linux path to a Windows program

Bob
s/Windows/wine/

s/Bob/pedant/

Bob
On that note - have you even tried backslashed paths?

Me?
I do or don't do. There is no try.

Bob
2:55 PM
@kerbalspacebecky Not you.
@Wally Whoever posted there has no clue what they're talking about.
