Yes, that might work. Clever! It's not quite as seamless as the OP requested but it sounds like a decent workaround.

Hmm, you'd need to have one on the *nix side, copying the file back though. Or create a symlink. If the friend is as stubborn as all that, they won't want to have to save in Windows then copy it over again

I saw. That requires quite a bit of scripting on both ends though. I can just about imagine how to do the Ubuntu sender thing, but the daemon running in Windows is beyond me.

Yeah it's not an answer of what is necessarily the best idea, it's just what I'd do put in that situation.

Perhaps @terdon 's idea of using SSH is the most simple.

Shouldn't be too hard, it would a matter of running a command on the host (after the appropriate setup)

Or a telnet server on Windows to launch things. Simplifies the scripting.

@terdon It's just easier to install on Windows than SSH has traditionally been. You don't need fancy encryption when everything's being done over loopback VM connections.

I'm not arguing, I just haven't heard anyone bring up telnet in seriousness for many, many years.

Q: Install Linux on a USB

I'm trying to install Elementary OS on a USB drive so I can carry my OS with me. I have installed the ISO to the pen drive and can boot into the desktop no problem. When I come to do an install the installer doesn't see the pen drive as a disk it only sees my internal HDD's. Any ideas? Thank you
