I don't golf in awk so unfortunately I'm not sure, but taking a look at some awk answers it seems like most people count the invocation
 
Why would you count the name of your language in the byte count? That's not part of the program.

You could have it as a shell program which only calls awk if you wanted to, but that would be stupid.
 
@feersum the language is typically called AWK, and I'm using GNU's implementation which provides extra functionality like the length function used

Yeah, the new one doesn't really work if I remove the first *
 
If any of the characters in the jumping logic get removed (except for the *), it jumps to 0,0
Meaning it will do < and then the ! left of it
The space at the end makes sure it doesn't skip the 8 at the end
(if the * gets removed, it first jumps somewhere else and then it jumps to 0,0)

How about a programming language that simulates circuits with actual electronic components.
Sometimes there will be random noise that gets in your circuits and if you put too much current through a resistor it will fry.

the difference is that round robin (at least in my code) allows for more than 2 player matchups, and doesn't require that every possible matchup be made
 
Pool play? That's like what FIFA does for the World Cup.
Groups of 4 or 6 or so (out of the 32 or whatever total) each play round-robin style, then the top two (or whatever) advance to the next stage.

lets say there's a game with a max of 3 players, and 5 players have joined
what I'm currently calling round robin would arrange teams as follows:
[1,2,3], [4,5,1], [2,3,4], [5,1,2], [3,4,5]...
certain game parings aren't even possible (such as 1,3,4)

I'm not sure what the first one is actually called. Maybe you could use the word "sampling" for it somehow, since you're drawing sample matchups out of the larger pool.
 
No, sorry, meaning that you said it would arrange teams as follows ... I wasn't sure if you meant that [1,2,3] were all on the same team, or if those were the three people playing that game.
 
"Sampling" clearly conveys the idea that not all matchups will be played (imo).

@Sp3000 Fish's '.' wraps the same way as the pointer movement. If you have 2 lines and try to jump to the 3rd, it jumps to the 1st. Golfish not doing this makes my jumplogic not work :(

I think it would, if anything, just lead to more uninformed votes. I'm not sure that's better. The people that take the time to read seriously about candidates already vote, for the most part.
