Hey, I like the idea of this room.
@BESW If there's any free online resources for generating things, is it worth linking them in the description, or a pinned message like the cool stuff in the main room?

Only if they're pretty universal or time-sensitive.

I need to have a look and find some :)

Universal stuff would go in the description (like the Fudge script in the Fate room), and time-sensitive stuff would get pinned (pins don't actually last forever, so timeless stuff would have to get re-upped and I'm not about to take that on).
The point of the Cool RPG Stuff pin is that folks were lamenting missing Kickstarters and so forth because they didn't hear about 'em 'til they were over.

@Nyoze I can try putting something together for you as I get time.

I got you, that makes sense :)
Yuck work, brb :(

4:17 AM
@Pixie If you don't mind, that would be awesome, thanks :)

@Nyoze Sure. It's kind of a hobby. >w>;;

Haha :P

I found Seventh Sanctum when I was a kid, and it just spiraled from there. xD
@Nyoze Any specific types of resources you're interested in?

Characters, primarily. I don't do enough with anything else :P

There's a Transhuman pdf link at the very beginning of the transcript.

4:30 AM
Thanks, I'll have a look in a few minutes when I can :)

3 hours later…
7:54 AM
Huh. I new and interesting room.
Perhaps even better at worldbuilding than the entire WB.SE

8:18 AM
Lol.
That's mean :P

@Nyoze so, what were you building lately?

Nothing yet. Work keets getting in the way.
(And RPing, but shhhhh)

Is that room free for anyone to build their own stuff and ask for help or is it for some specific party?

Any of the above, from what I understand :)
It's just to keep people from using RNG tables from cluttering up the main chat.

8:33 AM
rng?

Random Number Generator - Sorry. Wayyyy too much time playing MMORPG games, not dice games.

I drop my professional abbreviations in favor of rpg ones here
Also, in my (newish) field abbreviations are everywhere. Most of them completely cryptic.
Anyways, I'll visit then. I do lots of world- and NPC-building. It'll be of use.

I don't have abreviations then I can substitute out. They just happen for me :(
Come by some time, it's good to have people to talk to about this stuff :)

8:48 AM
All right.

Investigator... Huh.
> Your sleuthing skills involve old-school detective work, and modern data retrieval. You might be a PI, a police detective, or an insurance claim agent.
Ooh hang on, I was doing this wrong.
I like what I got so far though, so I'll go from there.

WAit, what are you generating?

Eclipse Phase random chargen begins now. Based on life paths from Transhuman (p 55).

Starting Morph is Flat...
2d10

That tells me very little. Is that for an online game?

@Nyoze That means you're a normal boring squishy un-augmented human.

I don't have a problem with that.

9:21 AM
@eimyr Eclipse Phase is a tabletop RPG about exploring what it means to be human.

> The people who raised you don't appreciate foolishness.
I was born a slave... You think?

The setting is in a future ten years after rogue artificial intelligences killed 95% of humanity and then left.

20. Exactly.
That's boring :(

9:22 AM
The most setting-defining element, though, is probably "morph" technology: the ability to transfer consciousness from one body to another, whether that body is human, robotic, octopoidal, or whatever.

I'm doing to jump 10 years to 30.

@Nyoze Okay, so you were 20 when the Fall happened.
(That's what we call the technological singularity, when the TITAN artificial intelligences started slaughtering carbon life.)

Oh screw it, lets go with 20 :)

So you were ten during the Fall?
Fun!
That means you get to skip the "what was your profession before the Fall?" bits.

Very interesting!

9:23 AM
2d10

I wasn't going to, but why not :)

Who runs that?

I stayed safe? Wow.

@eimyr At the moment, we're just rolling PCs for fun.

9:24 AM
huh

Magician is the major Eclipse Phase expert, though.

2d10

I caught an authority figure doing something illicit, but couldn't prove it.

(And that's not the octomorph assassin!)

9:28 AM
oh
It's a bit random, isn't it?

That's kinda the point of random generation.

1d10

Faction Paragon.

Why are the chars generated randomly? You doing it for teh lulz or is it part of the game?

9:30 AM
1d10

@eimyr Just for fun, I'm not planning on playing anytime soon.

Specifically now it's for pure entertainment, but the game does encourage random generation of PCs.

What I've got so far does make for a decent backstory though.
New Path, right then.
1d10

9:31 AM
Elite!

When @Nyoze is done, I might do some random Umdaar gen for actual game prep.

So I was born a slave, but I saw someone do something, and I couldn't prove it. Then because I kept my mouth shut, they promoted me to an elite station.

That is pretty good.

1d10

9:33 AM
I'm a... Journo.
Journalist?
You are a walking recorder, seeking out news and broadcasting what you find to the world.
Because I couldn't prove what I saw during the fall, I made it my lifes mission to find everyones dirty little secret.
These aren't supposed to make so much sense :(

What's a splicer morph?

You've been genetically tidied up--no hereditary diseases, generally optimised for health and good looks, but nothing fancy has been added.

is that in some other PDF?

Nyoze was born a slave to Persian parents, chosen as breeding stock for the local sunward colony due to their naturally darker skin. Those who raised him had no tolerance for foolishness, and as such, he knew when to keep his mouth shut. During the fall, he was safe, but saw someone doing something they shouldn’t. He knew better then to say anything at the time, since he couldn’t prove it. He spent the next 10 years of his adult life as a Journo, finding everyone’s dirty little secret.
There was a catastrophic sleeving accident, and he got a free Splicer morph. Now he makes a living as an explorer for the insurance company, where his Shoot-first ask questions later has placed him on control of an expeditionary team, on the hunt for more Gates. Now, if only he was paid for it.
All right, there we go.

9:57 AM
Nice.

That's actually a halfway decent backstory. I like this system.

He's totally going to wind up in charge of my silver spoon computer scientist.

Feel free to pilfer the idea if you want it, I doubt I'll have a chance :P

I'm gonna make some Umdaarians now!
[activates Fudge script]
First, I roll for bioform.
4d

10:02 AM
I'm a Mutant. Mutants are often Sneaky, which makes them good Rogues and Illusionists. They wield powers like Vampiric and Shapeshift.
I'll make him an Illusionist:
+3 Sneaky; +2 Flashy & Clever; +1 Careful & Forceful; +0 Quick.
Now I'll roll for two powers.
8d

Fireblast (Forceful); Shapeshift (Sneaky).
I'm gonna re-roll Fireblast 'til I get something I've got at least +2 in.
4d

Teleportation (Quick/Sneaky).
Very nice!
Now, some aspects...
High concepts are easy with Umdaar!
I'm a Sneaky Mutant Illusionist Tricky Mutant Enchantress.
My motivation is framed as I must ____ and should be a proactive trouble: it gets compelled to explain why I put myself in these crazy situations.
As an NPC, I need something juicy that'll let the PCs cooperate or conflict with me depending on circumstances.
I must avenge myself on the dinosauroids!
And a personal aspect: backstory, favourite weapon/tool, personality trait, station, physical attribute...
Let's give her a reason to hate the dinosauroids.
Living shaman of a dead tribe.

@BESW do you accept/tolerate random suggestions?

10:14 AM
please!

Cool. I'll chip in when I see something fun.

Well, that's basically it for my first NPC. Not really feeling it, though.

What's the NPcs purpose?

I like where the aspects took her, but it doesn't match the approaches and powers too well anymore.
I want to have a handful of interesting NPCs to pepper the world with. Purpose: conflict and engagement. Umdaar is a place with nice people and horrible people. I want the PCs to bond with the former and punch the latter.

OK, so they aren't there as plot devices yet.

10:17 AM
No, this is very much a "make it up as we go" sort of thing.
What few plot concepts I do have are spoilers for Trogdor and Doppelgreener.

I see.

So, I'm going to switch out Teleportation for Elemental Manipulation.

So she would shapeshift and firebend to get to voracious dinsauroids that killed her tribe?

Yeah.
> Subtle Mutant Shaman
I must avenge myself on the dinosauroids!
Living leader of a dead tribe
+3 Clever; +2 Careful & Sneaky; +1 Flashy & Quick; +0 Forceful
- Element Manipulation [plants] (Clever): You can move and manipulate a specific type of element. Pick a broad type of element, such as air, water, earth, metal, plants, or fire. Whenever this element is present in a scene, you can attack without a weapon. If the source of the element is abundant—air in an open space, or fire from a torch in the wall—you also gain +2 when Cleverly creating advantages using that element.
I figure she probably survived her village being purged by using her shapeshift ability.
Next PC!
4d

10:23 AM
Also mutant. Boring, re-roll.
4d

Robot!
Robots are often Clever, which makes them good Mages and Bounty Hunters. They wield powers like Brain Twister, Elemental Manipulation, and Mind Reader.
(I like psychic robots!)
So, let's make him a psychic and see how that goes.
+3 Careful; +2 Quick, Flashy; +1 Sneaky, Clever; +0 Forceful
He's a Careful Robot Psychic Staid Mechanical Medium.

Do you think that such a robot Forgets nothing?

His Motive is... I must study my makers. (The long-gone Demiurge are the god-like creators of ancient tech in this world.)
@eimyr Actually, how about... Overfull memory banks?

So the opposite? Seems fine, especially if he wants to fill them with info about his makers

10:29 AM
Or, perhaps: Never purge! Never defrag!
The idea is that he's holding onto his memories so tightly that he's losing them.
He's stuffed to the brim with information but is losing the ability to efficiently recall old memories or write new ones.

Hard drive filled with perfectly recallable bunkum and corrupted important information. Fun!

Exactly!

What would the powers be?

I'm gonna roll randomly and then choose if I don't like 'em.
8d

10:33 AM
> - Laser Punch (Quick): You strike with the speed and power of a laser. +2 when Quickly attacking an opponent that has yet to attack during the conflict. In addition, you can never become Unarmed.
- Metal Skin (Careful): You can rapidly cover your skin with thick metal or bone armor. If you spend an exchange doing nothing but defending yourself, you gain +2 whenever you Carefully defend yourself against physical attacks until the end of the scene.
I like those. It's not the "I can kill you with my mind" powers I was thinking of, but if we flavour him as more of a "mind over matter positronic net over alloy" kind of psionic deal... it works well.

I'm seeing the guy as deploying positronic mind-shields and striking unprepared opponents while their brains are still on idle.

> Staid Mechanical Monk
I must study my makers
Never purge! Never defrag!
+3 Careful; +2 Quick, Flashy; +1 Sneaky, Clever; +0 Forceful
- Laser Punch (Quick): You strike with the speed and power of a laser. +2 when Quickly attacking an opponent that has yet to attack during the conflict. In addition, you can never become Unarmed.
- Metal Skin (Careful): You can rapidly cover your skin with thick metal or bone armor. If you spend an exchange doing nothing but defending yourself, you gain +2 whenever you Carefully defend yourself against physical attacks until the end of the scene.
Okay, another!
4d

Beastman! Roll again to see which animal I'm a biped version of.
5d

10:43 AM
Locust, Mantis, or Ant (Quick).
OMG. It's a thri-kreen.
Well now, a thri-kreen has to be a hunter, really.
+3 Quick; +2 Forceful, Sneaky; +1 Flashy, Clever; +0 Careful
He's a Lightning-fast mantisman hunter.
His Motivation is I must conduct my moulting-quest with honour.
And before I choose his last aspect, I want to see what adaptations he has--sometimes they give weapons, but if not I'll make his personal aspect a weapon.
4d

4d6

Claws and Extra Senses.
> - Claws (Forceful): You have vicious claws or talons. Whenever you Forcefully attack and succeed, you deal an additional stress. Also, you can never become Unarmed.
- Extra Senses (Quick): +2 when Quickly overcoming aspects representing obstacles to find people or items hiding near you.
That seems very reasonable.
And so his final aspect is... hrm.
Something unexpected.
Maybe he's literate and well-read.
@eimyr Any ideas?

Sorry I wad a bit distracted

10:56 AM
No worries.

My life has been spared by my mate?

Interesting lore-building, but I'm not sure how to invoke or compel it.

Hmm. How about money is blasphemy?

Also very interesting lore-building. Really narrow range of applicability, especially for adventure-heavy sessions.
Umdaar is... think He-Man, Thundercats, John Carter of Mars.

I thought you do more social plot. Cool. Though I don't see anything better than him being am intellectual.

11:01 AM
Best-read bug in any crowd.
Meh.

Honestly I am very unfamiliar to all of these. Shame, shame, shame.
I got my eyes on you he's a xeno-lover.

Heheh.
> If we had to narrow it down, we would call it Planetary Romanticism. Avoid the sci-fi pitfalls of making it just about how technology works and how advanced it is. Instead, make your adventure about the emotions that the heroes and heroines feel: the joy of exploring a new frontier, the suspense of an unopened treasure chest, and the fear of a strange new monster emerging from the shadows. Through this lens, your adventures will more likely resemble fantasy than sci-fi.
Examples of inspiration: He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, She-Ra: Princess of Power, Flash Gordon, Thundercats, Kamandi: The Last Boy on Earth, and Krull.

Is that the setting explanation?

Yeah, quoting from it.
The premise of the setting itself is that it's a planet which was ruled thousands of years ago by demi-god-like beings who tamed the environment and guided evolution.

Hej, nine of the references sound familiar. I have major lacks in background I see.

11:05 AM
Now they're gone, leaving behind chaos until the tyrannical Masters of Umdaar came to power through cunning, magic and/or brute force, ruining the parts of the planet they rule.
The Masters are opposed by a loose alliance of Lands of Light, and both factions send adventurers into the dangerous Wild Lands to retrieve the ancient artefacts of the long-gone Demiurge. Whoever wields these artefacts can cure the land, or rule the world.
Sapient beings are a combination of robot, animal, and humanoid shapes blended together to varying degrees (cyborg centaur, anyone?).
Ordinary beasts are similar: laser-wolves are one of the pre-made adventure module dangers.
It's very over-the-top sword-and-sorcery with generally clear lines marking Good and Evil.

I see. Quite interesting.

12:03 PM
> Lightning-fast mantisman hunter
I must conduct my moulting-quest with honour
Shamefully literate
+3 Quick; +2 Forceful, Sneaky; +1 Flashy, Clever; +0 Careful
- Claws (Forceful): You have vicious claws or talons. Whenever you Forcefully attack and succeed, you deal an additional stress. Also, you can never become Unarmed.
- Extra Senses (Quick): +2 when Quickly overcoming aspects representing obstacles to find people or items hiding near you.

Cyborg... I want something else.
4d

Another robot...
4d

12:04 PM
Another mutant...
4d

Mutawarrior. Ooh.
Mutawarriors are... kinda like X-men.
Mutawarriors are Flashy, which makes them good Swashbucklers and Courtiers. They wield powers like Fluorescent, Energy Beam, and Sonic Cry, and they use weapons like Lances and Javelins, Magical Weapons, and Rapiers.
I'ma make him a battlemage.
+3 Forceful; +2 Clever, Flashy; +1 Sneaky, Quick; +0 Careful
Forceful Mutawarrior Battlemage Mutawarrior Battlemage Commander
I must gain the power to lead my people!
Rolling for a power and a weapon.
8d

Elemental Manipulation (Clever) and.... Rifle or Pistol (Careful).
I actually really like those!
But Careful, eh. [pokes other weapons]
Changing his class to Runekeeper.
+3 Careful; +2 Flashy, Clever; +1 Sneaky, Forceful; +0 Quick
And his high concept will be...
Supportive Mutawarrior Runekeeper
And his personal aspect is...
Dad's trusty laser rifle
> Supportive Mutawarrior Runekeeper
I must gain the power to lead my people!
Dad's trusty laser rifle
+3 Careful; +2 Flashy, Clever; +1 Sneaky, Forceful; +0 Quick
- Element Manipulation [the written word] (Clever): You can move and manipulate a specific type of element.
