8:00 PM
@RoryAlsop WHY? A proper dad has to eat a lot.
And be slim as F, which makes everyone go "whoa".

Nah -added the spinach in with 4 mins to go. Tastes fine

ah, that's a good trick

Cheese and breadcrumbs go in with about twenty minutes to go, and spinach is last
@Simon - slim is not something has has applied to me for millennia

that is TOO MANY MESSAGES

Then why don't you eat a lot?!?
Ah shut up Winnie's friend.

8:03 PM
I hope @RoryAlsop was policing the younglings

I eat ample

oo what are amples?

o

Hmmm - they stopped misbehaving when you went out :-)

@AviD Hahahahha, yes, that is exactly what happened.... hahahahaha

8:03 PM
LOL

@RoryAlsop hehe, so its all my fault then

I implied nothing

@AviD admitting you have a problem is the first step

Except my lovely amples

@Ohnana right, I encourage them to spite me.
@RoryAlsop that sounds delicious

8:05 PM
@AviD BTW your whole borderline topic for a week thing already failed.

dammit

Oh big time.

what happened, what did @Simon do

It made The DMZ fun at least.
I didn't do shit, son.

Actually, almost nothing this time.

8:06 PM
@RoryAlsop cmon maaan, I relied on you, and you let me down

Yeah "almost" is probably a safe call though.

I'm guessing @RoryAlsop and @Flyk were swapping chasing amy stories.
@DavidFreitag I like how he admits to "this time"

wot

@AviD Gotta start somewhere.

@Flyk I see your Colonel Panic and raise you a General Protection Fault.

8:07 PM
Hehehe

salutes

leelelle

allo

WHAT
The toy company in Sneakers is called Playtronics

Oh noes, I'm gaining rep for that answer I posted

8:09 PM
But you must not gain rep!

wasn't that the name of the company in WarGames also?

Oh, what is that? What am I hearing?
Yes @Flyk, it's people telling you that nobody gives a damn!

@Simon I think it's the earwig slowly digging into the empty cavity where it thinks your brain will be.

pls

raz
@Ohnana Apparently my nvidia drivers won't build for 4.0

8:15 PM
@raz hehehehehahahahaha

@Flyk Y SO MEEN

raz
@Flyk I build the kernel fine, I just can't launch a gui sigh
I hate nvidia
How effing hard is it to just write a decent driver for linux.
come on

nVidia drivers are not nearly as bad as AMD

raz
There's built-in support for AMD in Linux!

@raz sad face

raz
8:16 PM
I know!

can you hack it with free or contrib drivers?

Don't ever get a new AMD card on windows, you'll need to reformat or face random blue screens.

raz
Also the last 2 times Google Chrome has updated, it causes my Linux user session to crash.
I have to rebuild the kernel module for it to work again.
How do you fuck things up that bad!?
kernel module for nvidia*

@raz uh what
oh that one lol

raz
yeah

8:18 PM
i was like, "the fuck browser are you using"

raz
Why should that EVEN happen!?
A userland update should not break the kernel!!!
runs around screaming
RAZ SMASH
Ok, I'm going home

welcome to shitty proprietary: it's like shitty open source but you're not allowed to fix it
2

I don't think I have ever had a kernel panic before

@DavidFreitag i have. dodgy wireless driver

I wouldn't be able to fix a shitty open source driver either

8:22 PM
@Ohnana Dodgy face driver.

wut?

@DavidFreitag Did I ever make you listen to that track by my 1 night love producer?
DJ Stephanie <3

@Simon No I don't think so.

ok, I've watched Sneakers /cc @RoryAlsop
I would put it on par with Home Alone
(I'm not trolling, I think the first Home Alone is an alright movie)

8:28 PM
it was ok until somebody turned the distortion up too high

@Simon aaaand they murdered the song around 1:00 minute in
0/10 go into figure drawing

Welcome to Hardstyle, ladies and gents. If you don't like the distortion, you'll never like the style.
The kick is damn nasty.

yes it is

IN A GOOD WAY YOU DONUT

no

8:30 PM
no

ffs

@Simon Its aight

Oh come on.

It's getting better

Here's my all-time favorite Hard Trance track:
And I'm done linking tracks.

8:33 PM
@Simon yay!
@Simon I think I got a broken copy
@Simon pretty sure its broken
actually, know what that track is missing?
Music.

@Simon Yeah, even I'm not a big fan.

WAT

@Simon seriously though, it could be greatly improved if it had just a little, umm..... music. Yknow, instead of the whole track.
dont get me wrong, I imagine its not terrible to dance to.

Although I'm totally diggin' the hermhardstyleione mix after it.

You won't understand the whole electronic movement until you go to an actual rave/party/festival.

8:38 PM
I'm sure that back when I was tone deaf (or at least tone indiscriminate) I'm sure I'd danced to tunes that were worse.
Hmm, not sure "tune" is the right word here.

@simon - I like the type of distortion in that synth just after 1 minute. As in, I would use that sound on one of our tracks, but the tune itself is too 'hardstyle' for me

@Simon TBH I don't really care about the movement, I care about what I think sounds good.

@Simon uhhh

I did try a couple of races back when they were a thing (last century)

@RoryAlsop Yeah the kick is very very very distorted, even for a Hardstyle track.

8:38 PM
what does undersstanding a movement have anything to do with enjoying bad music?

But they didn't move me. Probably because I was not on the right drugs

Wait, never mind, I think I answered myself there.

Oh, not the kick, the synth

OH.

@RoryAlsop you might use a few notes, right? Not make the whole song be that repetitively.

8:39 PM
That sound - I occasionally end up with sound like that when playing with the synths here, but I never remember how

@RoryAlsop drugs.

@AviD - yup #fogeystogether

heh. You really need to understand the whole fogey movement.

Q: Kaspersky Antivirus "secure connection scan" as broken as Superfish?

mrclschstrI've read a lot about Superfish (and similar adware) lately and I basically understand the vulnerability to MITM attacks. But I'm actually wondering if the "secure connection scan" by Kaspersky Antivirus (e.g.: https://support.kaspersky.com/6688) is as broken as the Superfish example? I mean Kas...

OH SNAP
> To scan encrypted connection Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012 substitutes the required security certificate by the self-signed certificate.

Oh look, a newcomer that actually asks a good question.

@AviD Oh, I was sat next to a Kaspersky employee today

8:42 PM
> Kaspersky Lab's experts recommend disable check of SSL-traffic:

@Simon Could be a sockpuppet.

GODDAMMIT YOU GUYS

@AviD wish I had seen this first - I could have heckled her

yes yes, they are all broken

@DavidFreitag Could be.

8:43 PM
yes yes antivirus vendors have an especially bad model
but I did think Kaspersky was one of the almost-good ones.

Yeah me too.

Today I realized that the Internet is broken beyond repair. Don't use it. Go out and make a friend.

MSE + MBAM, all you need..

@Simon boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom
Sorry - just listened to it

@RoryAlsop :D

8:44 PM
I don't get it at all

:(

Listen to this classic - let's see if this crosses over

I bet I'm gonna die.

fast forward to about 40 seconds
the bass drum may amuse you

Ok that's some nasty guitar.

8:45 PM
@Simon nasty hair :-)

That too.
God damn that's one hell of an intro.

Oh check out the start of this one then - another good kick drum
And a last silly one - I love this intro drum beat

@RoryAlsop ahhh finally some good classics.

eugh, I replaced my kick drum with a distorted oversaturated kick and eugh
just ruined it all
might as well just quit the music industry for being so stupid

@RoryAlsop Yeah I prefered the first one 'cause faster :p

8:49 PM
@Simon cool - got two more for you then. Hang on

@Flyk Hardstyle producers spend weeks on their kicks sometimes.

@Flyk Ruining production databases so much more fun :P

@RoryAlsop Make it quick, I'm going home in 5.
@CodesInChaos pls.

@Simon ...

@AviD WHAT?

8:50 PM
@Simon look at you telling me something I already know

@RoryAlsop Been quite some time since I saw them.

@Simon PHRASING

@AviD YOU'RE THE PERVERTED ONE I DIDN'T EVEN NOTICE THAT

@RoryAlsop Good stuff

8:51 PM
"Make it quick"

@Simon I just assumed, since it was you

Scumbag @RoryAlsop links a 1:47:51 video.

GOING BACK TO ENFORCING MORATORIUM

@Simon just watch the first 3 minutes then

@RoryAlsop Fine :p

8:51 PM
damn "ENFORCING MORATORIUM" <- band name
that is so metal

Or this - seeing this from stage side last weekend was awesome:
Space Lord Mutha ******

@AviD Everything is a euphemism.

I start to dislike it when they scream :(
4

it's a bit sweary
by the way

8:52 PM
I just laughed my ass off

@Simon Hehehehe

@Simon actually I'm the same. I love heavy metal with melodic singers

@Lucas'Paul'Kauffman thats funny!!

And here is a song that you can't help but stomp about in a kilt to:

@RoryAlsop Damn good song, although I don't know about that kilt bit...

8:55 PM
@DavidFreitag stompy stompy stompy down from the Highlands, in mah kilt, with mah broadsword!
2

@RoryAlsop I'll take a regular pair of pants and a chainsword instead.
If that means I'm prancing around in my underwear with a chainsword, then so be it.

@DavidFreitag oooh, Neal Asher fan?

@RoryAlsop Never heard of him.

@DavidFreitag lovely wide sci-fi, in a Peter F Hamilton mold

@RoryAlsop Don't know who that is either

I could probably count the number of books I have willingly read on one hand

If you aren't into that genre you may not have heard of any...

@RoryAlsop Gonna see them (again) on my birthday!

@Arperum I'm jelly :]

@RoryAlsop Liked Player of games

8:59 PM
@Arperum My kids were asking if they'd be at Download again, I had to tell them probably not ...
@CodesInChaos good choice!

I love you guys
2

We don't get anyone fun in 'murica, it's just country music and rappers nowadays, and I'd rather claw my face off than listen to that

Last time they were hating on the beer like crazy for 10 minutes solid, and then noticed the huge banners everywhere from that beer. Then the singer was like "whoops, I think they might be the head sponsor..."

@Arperum hahahaha

@RoryAlsop yea, everyone was laughing like crazy.

9:01 PM
A significan't percentage of this wall is Neal Asher, Peter F Hamilton, Iain M Banks and Charlie Stross

@RoryAlsop Is that bookshelf really curved like that or is that a panoramic?

No Raymond Feist?

@DavidFreitag pano from my computer chair
@Arperum yeah - top right
close to China Mieville
A bit behind the curtain there

Yeah, I just can't motivate myself to read

I can't not read

9:03 PM
I read the first dune book

Well - the best of the series then
:-)

After a resounding "meh" I probably thought reading wasn't for me.

Oop - gotta run - child taxi duty calls
back later

9:14 PM
@RoryAlsop Unfortunately the other bankses I read didn't impress me much. Which ones do you recommend?

9:34 PM
Hey, what's the name of the service (or a service - I'm sure there's multiple) that lets you check the SSL cert presented by a site against certs seen by other community members (or another trusted authority)?

this superfish-style ssl replacement thing is blowing out of proportion a bit
I guess now the major bugs have been found, it's shitty implementation's turn

@Flyk this is not about bugs, or even implementation.

sure it's about implementation

the blow is because of a shaken foundation of trust.

somebody decided to implement a system that fucks everything up

9:53 PM
@CodesInChaos Surface Detail, The Hydrogen Sonata, The Algebraist, Consider Phlebas - from Iain M Banks

@Flyk yeah, and implemented it badly. but thats not the big blow out here.
its about shaken trust.
people thought they could trust their vendors.

I had no trust in any of these products anyway

Or The Wasp Factory, Feersum Endjinn, The Crow Road, Whit and The Business from Iain Banks
@DavidFreitag nice

@Flyk exactly. "other people".

9:54 PM
@RoryAlsop Almost all of their tracks are that good too

I think as punishment, Comodo should become untrusted as a CA

@Flyk absolutely

fuck 'em, send them out of business

and kaspersky
wait, they are not a CA
oh well
@Flyk and Lenovo should lose their MS licensing
oh wait, MS aint neeeever gonna do that

make a DigiNotar v2 out of them
meh, Lenovo will be punished
Silly Chinese firm bought a respected brand for a foothold in the US
Homeland security will take care of that
If anything, 'muricans can be awfully patriotic
will probably have a similar effect to the effect the snowdon leaks had on the American tech sector, but for Chinese tech companies

9:59 PM
@Flyk I highly doubt it. 99% of the US consumer market doesn't even know what an 'http' is let alone a TLS or even a MITM

@DavidFreitag sure but when Homeland security releases stuff like this:
