om nom nom
@Mateo Iwanna hit an idiot so hard right now
but you can't really run "Windows 98" as a program by itself.
Right, because MS-DOS was just there to be pretty!

user136984
I always have trouble with these...:

Q: MUON Discover does not work in Kubuntu 15.04

Tom TJ MahoneyCannot install anything from MUON Discover. INSTALL buttons do not work.

user136984
8:04 PM
Is it a "too broad" or a "unclear what you're asking" flag that I should give this one?

No, he simply cannot install anything.
seems pretty clear

@Toroidal 15.04 so developed version

user136984
@Mateo Oh... Well maybe they should be reporting this on launchpad then as a bug?

no, just plain off topic as a version under development

user136984
Oh, ok.

8:07 PM
the reason is grouped with "bug"

user136984
Good to know anyway!

user136984
:)

but yeah, report to launchpad because "issue with +1"
@Toroidal general questions are ok, there is more stuff on meta

user136984
Ok.

@Virusboy are you from NJ then??? ;-)

8:08 PM
but it's mostly it's broken because it's in alpaha/beta and they haven't fixed it yet stuff

No, lived in Brooklyn

user136984
@Mateo: Do a lot of people get versions in development then?

starts to get more popular as it hits beta
wow, I can play skifree in full screen, I'ts like skifree HD!

@Virusboy: someone was too quick even for me... ;-) Fat16, but 2GB should be enough!
@Mateo: you're a real geek! ;-)

Yay for expensive tapooters that don't work like they're supposed to!

8:11 PM

And Double yay for Apple who makes everything such a pain
@Mateo Oh my gosh. That game.

yay for software that just works!

@Toroidal: if you're unsure, it's NOT CLEAR! ;-)

Did you ever beat the Yeti thing, or does it go on forever?

@RPiAwesomeness eats you every time ;p

8:12 PM
@Mateo :(
Nooo. But I'm not tasty in the slightest.

@Mateo I remember that.
Thanks for making me feel old :P

@fabby I still really annoyed at that guys answer

Huh?
Who? what? where? How?
:/

the one you commented on

Earlier today in the chat???
With the hacker script?

8:19 PM
no on SU
my question on SU

Yes, do you want a different answer???
It's a bit of a ....
prickly?
answer
I don't know the word in English

no im just going to edit the part where WIN98 is an OS

looking down his nose
That was the debate then and now:
is it an OS or not???

no its a shell ffs

Was Netware an OS not not???

8:20 PM
MSDOS is the OS

And Netware?

seperate entity

It used DOS as a boot loader...

maybe after 98

So was Win98: you couldn't quit it and come back to DOS

8:21 PM
yea you could

thinking...

quit into DOS

95, yes...

was an option

98 i'm not sure...
I thought that you had to reboot it to come back into DOS
that was the difference between the TWO,
but I'm not betting any champagne on it!!!!
You might be right...

8:23 PM
My really old PC is the K6 AMD had FS

It's just a vague
memory

hmmm

user136984
Anyone here familiar with the basics of calculus by any chance? Because I have a quick question just to clarify something. :)

FS???

sorry FE (First Edition

8:23 PM
I just about died

landscaping with Windows Explorer.

only 11.3 MB

@Toroidal: try me...

So, I have to run the OS X installer off the iGPU on my CPU, right?

@Seth on an external disk???
quite quick!

8:24 PM
And I have to boot into Ubuntu off the GPU, otherwise Unity gets broken, right?

@Toroidal lets see what problem

@Fabby USB 3.0 FTW!

So, I switched the cable, and the fans just WENT NUTS.

What do you use?
Ah!!! :-)

I yanked the cable and we're all good, but oh gosh did that scare me O.O

8:25 PM
A Black label by the looks of it

15$ that's an MLC...

user136984
What exactly are infinitesimals? I am pretty sure that it is the closest number to 0, but not 0. Well that sort of thing, like two lines which are going towards each other but never meet. Is that right or am I getting it a bit mixed up with something else here? @Fabby @Virusboy

You should look for the SLC's...

Called it

8:26 PM
@I know Planck's length is an infinitesimal...
So basically you're right...
Infinitesimally small.
Never infinitesimally large!

never gets to zero but is the closest thing to zero

user136984
@Fabby: Good, I thought I was right but just wanted to check! :D

Wait till you play with i

user136984
I am reading some very interesting books at the moment on all of this stuff and the history of it.

someone italic that

8:28 PM
sqrt(-1)=i

x=3/i
sqrtx*theta
enjoy
supposably its solvable but w.e

user136984
@Fabby: But what is the square root of 2?

1.4142...

user136984
I think that I have a calculation from a NASA computer somewhere round here which rounds it to a million decimal places! :D

user136984
Irational numbers are so lovely aren't they! :D

8:36 PM
Hah! that was out of my head!!!
Calculator! Huh!
Back in my time we had rocks!
:D

user136984
:D

user136984
@Fabby: Have a look at this: apod.nasa.gov/htmltest/gifcity/sqrt2.1mil

user136984
:D

Irrational numbers?

user136984
I think that something went a little wrong with the HTML code on that NASA page though!

user136984
8:38 PM
:D

I have a 10MB file for pi...

user136984
Probably forgot the "<HTML></HTML>" on that page.

user136984
@Fabby :D

user136984
Where did you get it from?

user136984
Or did you make it?

user136984
8:39 PM
:D

No, i forgot...
Must be somewhere on the Internet...

user136984
Ok.

user136984
:)

user136984
@Fabby: You know much about Negative Dimensions?

Man, that's 30 years ago!
I can't even remember there were any negative dimensions....
@Mateo and @NathanOsman them avatars look like math geniuses.... Try them instead of an old man! ;-)
I.o.w. : no clue! ;-)

user136984
8:43 PM
:D

user136984
@Fabby: If you are interested though I have a very interesting paper here on Random Magnetic Fields, Supersymmetry and Negative Dimensions: dropbox.com/s/0k42onzrqp8xilb/…

downloaded...
I was in the kitchen making Crême Brulée...

user136984
Yum!

user136984
:D

user136984
The maths paper is a very interesting one.

user136984
8:57 PM
Well, I would say anyway! :D

user136984
A lot of people hate me for sending that paper to them! :D

Yep
Flagged...

@psusi Yeah they're the same problem but I think leave that one open because it has a specific error message and other people that have a similar problem can still find it more useful than the other question.
Like the second answer shows you can get that error more ways than just what the OP did.

user136984
@Fabby: So what did you think of the paper? Or not been able to look at it yet? :)

9:02 PM
I saw it was from 1979
2 pages
now continuing my last 3 answers of the day...
then having a look! :P ;-)

user136984
Ok! :D

sigh looks like im going to have install 98 the hard way

What are you installing it on?

a GPT table

It doesn't run properly in VirtualBox.

9:05 PM
%$&# VM
twas the first comment too

It works great in VMware Player, though.
I even managed to get guest extensions installed, to allow custom screen resolutions.

I currently am looking down on such solutions as it will be an everyday item.
plus I need it to fully utilize my hardware.

You're going to be using Windows 98 on a daily basis?

in a sense yes

9:07 PM
mainly for programs that normally run on DOS

That makes sense in a VM... but on bare metal?
Does Windows 98 even run on modern hardware?

well I cannot give windows more than 4GB
but it can access drives bigger than 4 GB

I don't think Windows 98 can even use more than 512 MB of RAM.

which is ok
Ubuntu doesnt either
at times when it isnt idle

I'm currently using 1.9 GB / 8 GB of RAM... :P

9:09 PM
1GB of 6
point being i need to possible make a boot strapper

It wont use more than 4GB of ram but will wig out on more than 2 GB of HDD space
brb gotta defrag my data drive

@Virusboy: Won't work on a GPT table: you won't be able to boot it
@Virusboy: DOS?
Why not freedos.org then???
BRB

9:27 PM
because some programs require 98 or 2000 with a dos OS to run with
which makes that question on SU worthless
screw it ill just boot 2000

2000 has excellent 8, 16 and 32-bit compatibility...

but no GPT
which is a problem

No!
Why?

????

External USB drive...

9:36 PM
because its what im running

No problem!

hmm
will it fit on 1 GB?

F*cking USB stick!
Great minds etc...
Depending on your apps...
I would take a 4GB...

why cannot i use my data part
The OS would just use that as lib files and downloads and sh*t

650MB min
2GB recommended!
Take a 4GB SLC USB stick!
That stuff will scream!
SLC not because of speed, but because of reliability!

9:39 PM
i have an 8GB Cruzer yes?

Is it work-related?
Yes. 8GB Cruser OK

no bought at a wally world

The stuff you're doing!
The cruzer I suppose not...
:P ;-)
Is the stuff you're doing work-related?
(I won't ask a commission!)
Leave a comment @Fabby: dessert is waiting!
:P

user136984
@Fabby: So have you managed to look at that paper yet? :)

I'm just back from dessert! :P
(looking now)

user136984
9:51 PM
Ok! :D

Are you taking the mickey or what???

user136984
Nope

user136984
Why? :)

Because is doesn't explain negative dimensions at all...
Huh?
what dessert?

user136984
You said you just came back from the dessert.

9:54 PM
yes...
So?

user136984
Nothing

Then I started reading your paper fom 1979
And I thought it was going to explain negative dimensions to me...

user136984
:D

And it's about stochiastical mathematics of EM fields!
Duh!

user136984
:D

user136984
9:55 PM
It's still an interesting paper though.

Have I ever told you what the unix command was to mail-and-forward????
Don't bother googling it...
You won't find it...
So, Did I ever tell you???

user136984
Don't think so...

finger
:P
:D

user136984
:D

And the Crême brulée wasn't up to standard neither...
