Hello @MattЭллен I feel very anxious today. I have figured out the three things affecting me: obsessions, trauma, depression.

@ABeautifulMind sounds like a start

@MattЭллен I think maybe I should go and see another psychotherapist this year. It might help to see someone else. I am trying to meet another prof next week. He has a son who is a therapist, so maybe he can help too.

That sounds like a good plan.
have you been out and about recently?

Today, I stayed at home.
One thing I have difficulty figuring out is why I have taken so many years to get better after I stopped working. I know many bad things happened during this period which made things worse for me, but still I don't get it.

because the mind is very complex and fixing it takes a long time.

10:07 AM
@MattЭллен Thank you, that really does help, so I am starring it.

10:33 AM
Here's the website of the creator of the redundant watch pleaseenjoy.com/personal

@crl fractalicious!

But it does seem that I no longer feel a loss of balance when I am climbing stairs.
How this started and how this ended is also a mystery.

that's good. possibly your blood pressure is higher now, maybe. I don't know what was causing it before

I think only the Buddha knows, lol.

or lower?

10:44 AM
I think it is due to strange things happening in the brain.

I don't know how blood pressure and dizziness works

It's not dizziness.
Let me explain.
It's like my mind cannot figure out where my legs and where the stairs are.
So I have to look very slowly with my eyes.

It's a mystery.

indeed

10:49 AM
Although I am not overweight, my profs all said that I have become fatter.

if you'e not overweight, don't worry about it :)

My mum works till quite late these days, instead of reaching home at 7 she reaches at 9.
It's almost 7 now, so I wait 2 more hours before dinner.

can you cook?

No. I am not hungry though.

it could be a nice hobby to have, and it would be nice to cook for your mother
once in a while at least
some people find cooking relaxing
just a suggestion

10:55 AM
Just suggest anything you want. It's called free association. =)
I think the subtitle of this room is nonsense. I suggest you change it.

it's nonsense on purpose :D
I don't know what to change it to
I have an idea :D
room topic changed to English Language & Usage: Я, наконец, ничо не светский. (no tags)

And what does it mean?

the same as before :D
I think Reg might find it funny

Nonsense is changed to nonsense, so same as before.

crl
11:15 AM
I'm not good in movies, I just recognised Borat

I don't know what film the blank one is from
well, there are lots I can't figure out, but that one stands out

crl
it looks like the full moon

the full moon one does
there's a blank one between the ballgag (pulp fiction) and a ceiling fan (no idea what that's from)

crl
oh I see

oh
maybe it's not blank
it could be a hair
there is a faint arc in the centre

crl
11:23 AM
there's a light parabola indeed
which number is the arc one..

I've got to 21 and still no arc...

crl
same here, level 14, it's finished and didn't see it
there are 11x13 pictures = 143, but my score is only 2-120, 21 to go, but I'm blocked :))
I'll make an automata to browse it for me, I'm too lazy
There are only valid links from http://www.famousobjectsfromclassicmovies.com/play#1 to #129
so it seems they dropped the blank one with others...

11:43 AM
3 mistakes out of 40. no arc yet.
if we had thought to compare ansqwers we would know if they randomise the order :D

That show has a laugh track, which is cued for almost every utterance by any character. Try using zazzy in real life and see how many genuine laughs you get. — Robusto 45 secs ago
Gawd, I hate The Big Bang Theory.
Not only a laugh track, but an "awwww" track when something is cute or dear. Yecch.

zazzy
teddy bear

@MattЭллен remains silent

I hear nothing

@MattЭллен awww

11:48 AM
:D
they should release a DVD / Bluray version that allows you to turn the laughter tracks off

crl
gosh I'm fighting with word to make my resume, I think I'll try Excel :)

Is there a law that some horrible idiotic sitcom has to dominate American television?

the law of the lowest common denominator?

@MattЭллен They're afraid to do that, because then would see that these shows simply are not funny.
> Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people.
I think Mencken said that. (Ed. note: he did)

@Robusto yeah

crl
11:57 AM
grrr, on word, when you make a table you can't choose which inner border you want, it's either all drawn or none

write it in HTML ;)

crl
hmm why not, I'll try the google-drive word quickly first
same shit, though you can draw horizontal lines at least

12:16 PM
@crl have yo useen cyriaks's cows video?

crl
excellent :)), very realistic

12:42 PM
Ah, it seems my mum will only be back at 10 pm.
@MattЭллен It is very interesting that the things I star are not starred by anyone else. This has been so for the past three stars.

lots of things only get one star, it's not just the things you star

crl

@crl Are you happy these days?

crl
@ABeautifulMind Not so much, I've seen a psychiatrist yesterday, he said I should find a work for being better, doing nothing will get me worse and worse, I don't program a lot at home now
I'll try to program the redundant clock fractal

@crl Well, you should decide for yourself if work will make you better.

crl
12:55 PM
There are 2 problems with work
1. wake up before 9am
2. use my car in traffic jams, I hate using fuel (I feel I don't deserve it), and jams, I prefer a lot my bike, but there are hills in the way, just 3-4km, which make like an equivalent 8km flat path

I think there are so many factors in deciding if something will help a particular mental illness that almost anything anyone suggests that you do is just a suggestion.

@crl the arc is GATTACA

crl
@MattЭллен How did you find :))?

@crl it came up as #119

@MattЭллен That seems to be the title of a movie I just saw. An old movie.

1:04 PM
@ABeautifulMind yeah

crl
@MattЭллен famousobjectsfromclassicmovies.com/play#119 is ice age but you saw it I guess

I saw it, but didn't guess it :D

crl
maybe numbers are also different by sessions

yeah, probably

I am still trying to come up with a gmail username...

1:06 PM
@crl oh! they randomise the order of the numbers. it's #88

crl
right I see it

1:25 PM
All numbers are random

you are a number

Exactly
Wait..what?
@ABeautifulMind here's a gmail username: johnsmith337@gmail.com
Because 1 through 336 were already taken

or maybe they prefered being single

crl
that must be worse with "lee wang"

@Mitch Did you really try all 336?

1:34 PM
There are so many different restrictions on usernames these days that, what with so many accounts, your particular username is just as hard to remember as a password

It's my mistake, I deleted jasperloy, lol.
My mum is back, I will eat dinner with her now.

crl
What's funny with gmail usernames is you can put a dot anywhere, it still works (the mail is sent to you)

What? Really?

crl
yes johnsmith is like john.smith or jo.hnsmith

1:35 PM
sends some emails
Holy crap.
I meant "Holy crap"
But gmail knew that

crl
there's another hack, like you can add a #something at the end I think

technically email addresses can have comments in them, according to the RFC that specifies email addresses

I vaguely remember that that can be used for span detection. You can put in extra '.' So when you get it you know who it came from.
Oh wow.
That seems so potentially exploitable

but I don't think people who implement email stuff actually allow for comments

Like you can make the send mail server compute pi with a well constructed isername

1:40 PM
@crl When I bothered to have my own website I would use email addresses based on the company I was interacting with: amazon@mywebsite.com, pcconnection@mywebsite.com, etc. That way I could tell who was selling my information to whom.

The Matrix is already inside our email usernames

@Robusto I do that

I sold my website to a German company with the same last name as me. Took the cash and ran.

At some point The matrix will have taken over our missile defense capabilities but we still won't be able to get MSWord to indent the way we want

@Robusto nice
@Mitch because of the Matrix
it's vindictive like that

1:42 PM
@MattЭллен More properly, I sold the domain name.

Because the matrix is only so powerful, it can't do everything

I figured that's what you meant :)

@Mitch Lies!
Spanish is blurring my head. Having read quand in French for so many years, it's hard for me to type cuando instead of quando, etc.

moi aussi

You Aussie!

1:46 PM
damnit!

It probably works on some romance language
You Ossi

crl
there's also "quant" in French, when there's a vowel preposition after, like "quant à lui"

¿cuánto es la cucaracha mejor?

crl
¿cuánto vale esto?

Cuarante?

crl
1:51 PM
vale, lo toma

Salve!

Ointment!
Unguent!

Snake oil!

2:13 PM
@ABeautifulMind ha ha, no, but that's what I imagine.
@MattЭллен if snake oil doesn't actually come from snakes, then where?

@Mitch snake oil salesmen

@Mitch It does actually come from snakes but it got a bad rap from people selling counterfeit snake oil

2:33 PM
@MattЭллен ewww

@MattЭллен What you said about the mind is simply brilliant, no sarcasm.

thanks!

I will delete my SE accounts once I come up with a gmail username, lol.

why will you delete your accounts?

Well, sometimes I just feel like starting all over.

2:40 PM
ah

Not really a problem, so no matter.
I just had beancurd for dinner. It was cooked with some different meats and gravy, but it is the main ingredient.

Q: Forming adjectives via suffixes, exhaustive approach

Georgi 'Kaze'My word is for postfixes (they call them suffixes) forming adjectives, very often I face missing English counterparts speaking of rich in adjectives (they are formed easily with almost no snobbish overhead i.e. 'censorship') Bulgarian language. One of my wishes is to have all such postfixes in o...

I don't know what this should be closed as. Only that I think it should be closed. List?
@crl BTW, this will fail as spammers learn to strip the +suffix from the email address for gmail accounts.

hmmmm
I've closed it as too broad, but now I'm having second thoughts
do we explicity disallow reference requests?

2:56 PM
That's why we should never close questions, lol.

Quiero un emparedado para mi almuerzo.

That must be telling me to stfu, lol.

I've removed the request for the list, but I'm leaving it open for now, because I'm not sure if it should be closed. I'll let other people deal with it.

It says I currently have a vocabulary of 173 words in Spanish. Hmm, I wonder how many are required for basic comprehension.

2000 words is what I hear you need to get by in daily life.
An Assimil language course teaches you about 2000 words, they say.
And you need only 6 months for the course, spending about 1 hour each day on your own.
If you want to learn Spanish I recommend this.

3:21 PM
@ABeautifulMind Why CDs? Why no DVD or BluRay?

3:52 PM
@Robusto Well, because it's only audio, not video.

But so many CDs. One DVD is cheaper at this point.

Well, it comes with 1 MP3 CD which contains the contents of the 4 audio CDs.
I think it's for compatibility.
Some people only have CD players.

In this day and age?

Well, maybe these companies are old fashioned.

Canon 5D or 6D?

4:02 PM
3D?

don't think there is one

@ABeautifulMind I recommend Rosetta, LiveMocha, Duolingo, not necessarily in that order. all online.

@Mitch Rosetta Stone is very expensive. And many people think it does not work.

Up to 203 words now. Woohoo!

at this rate, you'll know all of them by the end of the month :D

4:12 PM
Just use Assimil, QED. Not that I have used it before. But trust me, I have read over 9000 reviews of over 9000 products.

@Robusto a game?

@JohanLarsson Spanish.
But, yeah, a game.

where?

www.duolingo.com
I mean "game" in the metaphorical sense.

4:30 PM
@ABeautifulMind livemocha is like a better cheaper Rosetta

@Mitch I don't really like to learn things online. I prefer a real book with audio. I am traditional, lol.

Yeah, I prefer reading a book too. but the online things have real audio and they use learning theory to make sure you learn it. a book is too easy to have your eyes fly over without registering the content.

@Mitch That's why these books come with the CDs which contain real audio, lol.

I'm picking up lots of vocab by playing online trivia in another language.
it forces you to think quickly.
the trivia question have a broad range of difficulty, so there will be things like 'What country is this the flag of?; showing you the US flag, and giving you multiple choice. Pretty obvious to everyone, but you kind of are forced to learn the word for 'flag'.

I have to fix it, because for more levels than 2, it's crappy

6:00 PM
If your word for pharmacist is 'chemist', what is your word for chemist?

@crl Nice. Know what would be really cool, though? If you had a light source at the origin of the circle that would shine toward whatever hour/minute it was, so that the "numbers" would look like poles casting shadows (which they do now, kind of).
@GlenTheUdderboat Brummagemologist

crl
@Robusto look again I've updated, the direction of the light should be the hour basically?

@crl I'm saying imagine a flashlight shining in the direction the hour hand is pointing.
Gotta go, but nice work.

crl
ok

6:39 PM
What's a better alternative to 'modelable'?

crl
6:50 PM
What is the context?

7:12 PM
@GlenTheUdderboat malleable? copiable?

7:29 PM
@crl As in unambiguously reproducible in a mathematical model.
@SrJoven ^

crl
constructible maybe

8:01 PM
@GlenTheUdderboat Such a result would be considered congruent
