Also, it seems like the quarry doesn't pull the laser up anymore when it's finished.

It seems AE2 stuff is actually... easier to make. Or maybe it's because I just ran a quarry and have a lot of material

@KevinvanderVelden Yeah, I was going to say, literally anything else. If you're using redstone engines for power at all, you're doing it wrong

3 hours later…
5:51 AM
@JeffreyLin Creative, because it's infinite and free once you build them. Redstone engines should run red optimally - they never explode (they once did when they had no load attached, but now they just never explode, but the capacitor is a constant load so no worries either way). However, you'd get better peformance out of the quarry with a culinary generator and some baked potatoes (or steak, if you have it abundant)
And yeah, the quarry arm / frame just stay like that once it's done. That can be advantageous if you intend to use the frame to build on, like if you're doing a series of quarries over an entire ocean.

7:00 AM
yeah, redstone engines for power is a bad, bad idea... not only is it terribly inefficient space wise, you'll also likely cause a bunch of lag

1 hour later…
8:05 AM
The only real use for them is powering extraction pipes. Everything else (pumps, quarries, etc) dimensional transceivers handle quite nicely.

8:16 AM
@TimPost And these could be done with a gate in a cleaner way.

and higher tier gates can be much faster as well

9:00 AM
Gates are a bit higher tier than redstone engines. Though once you can make them, you totally should.

I mean diamond gates can pull out stacks at the time if all outputs are set to pulse

They also require you to have diamonds, strangely enough.

quite a few diamonds and a bunch of power if you don't want to grow old waiting for the gates to cook

10:24 AM
@TimPost Something like this; i.imgur.com/Bdvc9md.jpg
I usually remove them though, 1 good aimed shot with a mininglaser is all what it takes to get rid of an entire row.

10:42 AM
@Vandammetje X is where the treasure is hidden?

@Arperum X is where the only bit of land in sight is hidden
Or well, it will be when he finishes
@Vandammetje set it to horizontal mode and you've already fixed one thing to pay attention to =p

@KevinvanderVelden Is he making an underwater base that does not tolerate a seafloor?

@Arperum he's a friend of mine. He's mining ALL THE THINGS

@KevinvanderVelden I should've known. Dutchies and living below sealevel.

@KevinvanderVelden Hey, I need a lot of stuff for my buildings! Well, I haven't been mining for over two weeks now since my efficient miningsetup was kinda overkill, but still.

10:52 AM
@Vandammetje HAH, we don't have the mods on this server to make a properly OP setup
I remember my chunk devourer set up, that was fun
I think it ate a few kilometers long 32 wide strip through a mystcraft world before the world was retired

@Vandammetje I think the concept overkill does not apply to any server that contains @KevinvanderVelden.
2

@Arperum unless you want to crash the server, then he just has to look funny

@Arperum true, although I suspect @KevinvanderVelden to build stuff like that because he can, not because he needs it.

@Vandammetje have you seen my latest build? I build because I can

@ratchetfreak Based on the crash statistics, he just looks at @jochem and the whole thing goes up in flame.

11:00 AM
@Arperum in my defense, I uh... hm...

@Jochem Smoke isn't really going to help you if you want to prove that you aren't causing fire...

@Arperum hm, good point

1 hour later…
user43095
12:04 PM
@Jochem It causes lag? I don't mind the efficiency part, but if it causes lag I'll gladly dismantle it.

@JeffreyLin well, the lag/power ratio isn't that good... mostly because you can't divide by zero

user43095
Power is 1 MJ/t or something like that per machine. Total of 32 MJ/t if my calculations are correct.

user43095
Actually .05 MJ/t

user43095
Huh. I might need to rethink this.

12:13 PM
and they can't power wooden kinesis pipes
last I checked at least

user43095
@ratchetfreak I'm converting to RF using EnderIO conduits.

user43095
2.56 MJ/t, 25.6 RF/t

user43095
But how much lag? Like TB's enderquarry lag or slight lag?

Naah, barely noticable probably
But still, get a culinary generator and you'll be set =p

@KevinvanderVelden unless you have a chunk full of them of course

user43095
12:19 PM
@ratchetfreak I have 32

user43095
Why are culinary generators so popular?

@JeffreyLin Because it's easy to grow potatoes or sompething and it gives a good return?

user43095
Well there's that. Would be easier to automate if we had MFR though. you use golems in your setup if I'm not mistaken.

@JeffreyLin I don't have anything automated yet because I've barely been playing lately. @KevinvanderVelden had golems at some point.

@JeffreyLin EnderIO has a Farming Station which handles potatoes and such very well
it needs a hoe but only uses it for tilling the dirt, after that it's not used anymore.
They are quite power hungry so you might want to limit what they get with a capacitor set to only output 40RF/t

user43095
12:26 PM
Okay, I'll look into that when I get home tonight.

1:01 PM
Yeah, EnderIO farming stations are weird powerwise. They use energy per tick, so if you limit them to a small amount of power they work just as well

or you farm with SFM

@ratchetfreak source film maker?

steve's factory manager

Oh
Yeah we don't have that

2 hours later…
2:38 PM
Think of it this way: you have 32 of them, and you're outputting only 25 RF/t

a single dynamo will be able to cover that

One culinary generator running on potatoes is about double that.
Free energy is 1000% ineffective and not in any way a good idea. Creative, sure, but literally anything else is a better idea.

3:15 PM
@Unionhawk I'm doing fine with free energy thanks to mister Sun and the one who invented solarpanel technology. =p

@Vandammetje Okay, solar is different :P

One 64*64 quarry in the Twilight Forest gets you a lot of tin.

11:26 PM
@JeffreyLin Ah, so that was your quarry. You might want to look out, I kinda pissed off the Lich king and for some reason he teleported outside next to your quarry.

user43095
@Vandammetje Noticed the bar at the top of my screen. He seems to be gone though.

Exception in thread "Client thread" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space
Exception in thread "Netty Client IO #1" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space

Did I do something wrong?

user43095
@KevinvanderVelden I'm going to copy your AE Inscriber setup

@JeffreyLin PermGen space error, that sometimes just happens with a lot of mods

user43095
Seems to happen ever other time I use a link book (specifically to @Kevin's place)

11:41 PM
@JeffreyLin Your java-client is probably like "Oh HECK no I ain't going to THAT place again" and rather dies a painfull death than loading @KevinvanderVelden's base for a second time.

user43095
Heh
