MansuroWhen Tenshinhan prepares to launch the shin kikoho, he puts his hands in the form of a triangle. However, the attack ends up in the form of a square according to the destroyed area. Does anyone have a good explanation for this?

@MadaraUchiha Given that we've had a lot of messages with only/mostly Japanese posted here for basically the entire duration of the site (including some by both you and me), it seems a bit weird to ban Japanese entirely. I mean, we even have Japanese text in the room description, and among the regulars here at least a half-dozen (many with moderator/room owner status) are comfortable at least reading Japanese.
That doesn't particularly mean I want this room to be having frequent conversations entirely in Japanese, but I also don't see it as the job of moderators or room owners to police what people talk about in this room so long as it isn't offending anyone. To be honest, in this room, it's likely impossible to write anything in Japanese which would offend one or more users here, and certainly not by someone who is still at the level of writing in romaji.
And, in all honesty, if you have nothing better to do than worry that a total novice somehow managed to make "omoshiroi" into a term which would offend people here, you'd be better off spending your time learning a week's worth of Japanese anyway instead of worrying about that kind of thing in this room.
Or, if someone flags it and you aren't sure, use the "not sure" button. That's what it's there for. SE has at least one employee, a half-dozen moderators, and plenty of 10k users who know Japanese; you don't need to be the one to deal with the (rather unlikey) flags on Japanese stuff here. That's presumably how this room is moderated as well.
I'm not opposed to disallowing Japanese here, but that's if and only if this community decides it. I'm not going to follow some policy on MSE which was voted on and decided by people who aren't even users on this site, and certainly not something on MSO. If you want to make this a rule here, follow the proper protocol and post it on our meta site rather than somewhere that we don't even visit. For all I care, MSO might as well be Reddit.
IMO there's no need for such a policy (this is, after all, a chatroom, and we're here primarily for the sake of recreation), but if you want to make such a policy it needs to be established by consensus in the right place (either here or on meta). As a room owner, I intend to uphold what I view as the consensus of regular users here, not the consensus of MSO users, and at the moment I don't see a consensus that we can't talk in Japanese occasionally.
With that said, I will note that on your post, the top answer (with more than twice the score of your question) essentially says "no, these shouldn't be banned". Shog's accepted answer doesn't say anything about banning them either, only to custom flag them if it's becoming a problem (which I'm quite sure isn't the case here). The top answer which agrees with you, by badp, is quite specific to chat.SO, as he states in the comments.
Shog's eariler MSE answer seems to more-or-less allow Japanese here by merit of the fact that many of the regulars have used it in the past. Given that we're not a site about English content, but a site about Japanese content being presented in English, I think it's reasonable (if not necessary) to allow at least some Japanese here.
If what you're worried about is alienating people who don't speak Japanese, I can understand that, but I hardly think it's reason for banning all talking in Japanese. We talk about programming quite a bit in here, and I don't understand any of that. There's also plenty of talk about Naruto, Bleach, and other series that I don't know anything about.
But given that this is a chatroom, there's no need for me to understand every single message. Likewise, there's no need for everyone here to understand Japanese in order for us to occasionally use it.
I'll also say that I don't understand the analogy to Hinduism and Hindi. Surely the closer analogy would be to Hinduism and Sanskrit. If you look at their room, you'll see that they do use Sanskrit terms fairly commonly, even when English equivalents exist. Islam chat also occasionally uses Arabic, and Judaism chat has at least some Hebrew there.
Anyway, tl;dr: if you really want to impose a more-or-less complete ban on Japanese here, it needs to be either supported by a direct statement of an SE employee, a strong consensus of most/all regulars in chat, or a consensus on meta Anime. I don't consider the voice of one (or even all) moderators to represent a relevant consensus here. Unless and until that happens, I at least will continue to use Japanese whenever I feel like it, and I won't try to stop anyone else from doing so.

@ton.yeung See the discussion I linked to in the first message
Something about us not being allowed to talk in Japanese here
On main site, I agree that we should be an English language site
Not that you can't use Japanese text in a post, but you should give a translation if you do.
In this chatroom, I see merit in us being primarily English, but I don't see any merit in outright banning Japanese.
Have we ever had a wall of romanji here?
The only cases I remember of a wall of anything (other than discussions about anime/manga) is programmer-talk.
Which honestly is kind of off-putting but nbd to me. Can't speak for anyone else though, and I'm not even sure we have any other non-programmer chat regulars.
I don't really care personally. I just ignore it, the same as when people here talk about Naruto or Bleach or other series I don't know/care about.
I mean, if we start having entire discussions in full Japanese, at that point we should get a separate room. But I've never seen that happen in this room.
nhahdth has been here recently and knows Japanese. senshin hasn't been around much lately, but he also knows Japanese. And there's at least 4 relatively infrequent users here who know Japanese at some level.
I don't think we're going to be having conversations entirely in Japanese any time soon here, but we certainly have enough users to do so.
In unrelated news, the A51 troll who was suspended for a week is finally back

Witch Craft

Proposed Q&A site for believers in dark magics, rituals, witch craft, etc.

I'd guess that falls under the "etc."

@LoganM Wall of text!

I'm not sure what the fact that some people believe something as a religion has to do with anything. Presumably the proposal is for people who believe in witchcraft. If you got enough of them together and codified their beliefs, you could call that a religion too for all practical purposes.

@LoganM lol

Which is basically what Wicca is anyway I guess.

@LoganM what type of knowledge do they want to exchange?

I don't know anything about Buffy.
@hwlau Given the guy who proposed it, it's most likely a troll proposal.
But SE CMs won't bother closing it because even if it was proposed as a troll, it might get serious people to join.

There was a point in time when there were two consecutive proposals "Seduction (for men)" and "Seduction (for women)". Luckily both of them were deleted quickly, but I had half a mind that if they were allowed I'd propose "Seduction (for Mokèlé-mbèmbé)" to make what would be literally the most absurd proposal ever seen on A51.

Mokèlé-mbèmbé, meaning "one who stops the flow of rivers" in the Lingala language is a legendary water-dwelling creature of Congo River basin folklore, sometimes described as living creature, sometimes as a spirit, and loosely analogous to the Loch Ness Monster in Western culture. It is claimed to be a sauropod by some cryptozoologists. Expeditions mounted in the hope of finding evidence of the Mokèlé-mbèmbé have failed, and the subject has been covered in a number of books and by a number of television documentaries. According to skeptic Robert T. Carroll, "Reports of the Mokèlé-mbèmbé have been...

You should remember that from Mikakunin

Stack Overflow Academy

Proposed Q&A site for programmers who want to learn how to ask good questions on Stack Overflow

Currently in definition.

Could become the next site to open...

@nhahtdh
question with broad answer is not acceptable then how broad and long can a question be

What are you talking about?
In general?

in general
like when answer of question tends to be very long or broad than it not accepted
this apply for question also
How long can a question be

The length of the question doesn't matter
The problem is the scope of the subject matter in the question

7:22 AM
ok

For example, this would be too broad: "What are the things I need to know to design a user-friendly website"
People have books written for this matter

@mirroroftruth actually questions are limited to 30.000 characters markdown.

@ton.yeung: Well, your answer would be low quality

but fwiw, that spans multiple pages.

@ton.yeung: That is also one of the reason why broad questions are not allowed. It is too broad, that any attempt to answer it will either take a lot of effort with no end in sight, or low quality answers

7:25 AM
additionally SO is for fixing problems with code and not a "please tutor me" site

The question itself is fine, IMO
Just not fit for Q&A site, where you get at most blog-size answer

@nhahtdh that's not correct...
good questions can fish even longer answers...

but they are also limited to 30k characters markdown.
some people are known to have written multiple oversized answers to the same question.
@ton.yeung unclear what you're asking it is...
missing enough information to identify the problem.
daily..

@Vogel612: Apart from "debug please" questions, questions where people ask how to do something that relates to a feature that the user doesn't know. Then that's when a short tutorial is good.

7:29 AM
@ton.yeung how does it blow up, where's your code, try making an SSCCE...

Oh awesome. More OP/EDs are out.

@Vogel612: Some good questions require a detailed explanation or the question would not be adequately answered. That's where people write long answer for it

@LoganM I understand, but the main point I wanted to get across is that if a flag is raised that I can't understand and no available moderators who can understand it are around, I will have to act on it. That's all
You can continue talking in whatever language you may see fit, and luckily, I don't remember flags coming from this room

@nhahtdh just check mysticial's highest voted so answer...

Time to stop meta. More anime
@Vogel612: I am aware of that.

7:35 AM
And if my opinion matters, I don't mind Japanese. I can't read it, but Google Translate gets it close enough.
I have quite some experience in reading google-translated Japanese. And not by choice either.
I have a lot of experience in writing English that google translates well into Japanese.
Mainly because I've been working with someone who speaks almost no English for the past few years.
Yeah. Nagoya.
The emails we send each other are in English. But I need to write the emails that I send him in a very specific way for him to understand.

@Vogel612 no body will keep counting

Likewise, the English that he sends me in the emails are clearly auto-translated. But I have enough experience now to "fix" all the common translation errors and figure out what he actually intended to say.
@ton.yeung No. My pi stuff.
Words like "omoshiroi" commonly get translated wrong.
@ton.yeung Yes. His emails very often use "interesting" and "funny" interchangably.
It didn't take me long to realize what he meant to say - and that's only because I watch enough Anime to know what "omoshiroi" means and in what context.
That's just one of the more common examples.
There's a lot of other subtle ones that I can't really name off the top of my head.
A big part of the translation errors probably come from the dropping of pronouns. So I have to infer that from the context.
It sounds painful, but after enough of it, it sorta becomes natural.
The flipped sentence structure also messes up the translators. But that's easy to put back together.
Here's one of the emails I sent him recently:

7:51 AM

See if you can tell what is unusual about it:
> The computational speed is the same. The difference is the "CPU Utilization".

I have not changed the multithreading between 9443 and 9444. I updated the Microsoft and Intel compilers, but I don't believe that has to do with it. The compilers should only affect the computational speed. It should not affect the threads.

shorter sentences. clearly qualified nouns. "computational speed" T.T

Exactly. There's more to it than that. But this email is too simple to demonstrate it.
The sentence, "I updated the Microsoft and Intel compilers, but I don't believe that has to do with it." is actually too long.
It should've split it up.
But the back-and-forth translate kept its meaning, so I didn't bother.

Is it the guy who ran your pi computation to trillion digits?

yeah
I can probably write a good blog on how I communicated with this guy.
Everyone assumes we actually have a language in common, when it's quite the opposite. lol

8:03 AM
btw, @Mysticial wasn't y-cruncher featured in "87 Clockers"?

I speak two languages with useful proficiency, but I'm only literate in English. He's native Japanese and speaks little to no English. I don't know if he speaks anything else though.
@Vogel612 I dunno. Every once in a while, it gets featured somewhere for some benchmarks. But it's still pretty rare.
I've also experimented with using a mix of English with Chinese nouns/verbs (that better convey what I'm trying to say than English). But Google translate fails miserably on mixed language input.
Anyways, 1am. Imma sleep.

Q: How does Obito use Kamui to move from one place to another

Tendou KishiHow do Obito use kamui to move from one place to another? We have already seen that inside the kamui space, there are big square stepping stones and nothing else. So, how can he move absorbed himself into the kamui space, and materialize again in different place in the real world?

no equivalent compensation in my opinion − the same conditions as a full-time worker, except only half pay and the pay is the same as in 9-5 jobs in the same area

Q: Shichimiya Satone Question

seinWhat will happen with shichimiya satone, what author want to do with her. Also, will she be with Yuuta in the end? Oh,and when the volume 3 of the novel will appear?

Well in some countries 8~10 hours of work is the normal wage with a 30min~1hour break
but you get paid full time, but since you haven't done any internship on the are you want to work as in programmer, I wouldn't expect the same payment a full time junior would get
unless you can met their requirements for the role

from all I've read 8 hours a day is a norm and about 25% of the time is rest and catching a breath because 6 hours of intense coding is still a lot, no matter how you look at it

@Sakamoto not again, yet another turn of events question

3:18 PM
that was just way too fishy for a good dev job

@user1306322 there is no job that will give you 25% breath catching free time you get as much as 1 hour or 30 minutes at best and that's for lunch

my previous interview seemed a lot better. The interviewer knew what he was talking about, internship period would've been only 2 months at most, but he said I'd catch everything in 1 month

I do agree that 1 year seems long but some people need that long to learn from where they left on uni

it's not like I have forgot how to code in C# lol
I'm improving Taisho in my spare time regularly
@ton.yeung the guy said 2 months at most

well it's not like I was gonna do that from scratch, it's an internship, not a junior position

@ton.yeung well put ;)
and honestly not every programmer can grasp all the things you need in only 2 months
in that sense 1 year can be fair enough perhaps 6 months if they actually put you to make things full time

that's true, but it's not like I'm not willing to learn

I'm just not at all convinced that some places are willing to teach at all
