@Prix I don't know the details of Google's algorithm, but assuming it's basically searching in Fourier space, using squares isn't so good. You'd have better results if you use irregularly-shaped regions e.g. puzzle piece shapes.
Also, if you made the cutout background a different image (e.g. a giant copy of our identicon), that would probably mess up the search engines.
@LoganM that's funny because the squares are working so nicely from the tests I've done but I haven't got into actually coding it yet to see how it would actually like to make shapes on an image like that
IMO you're better off having actual irrelevant information in the cutout spaces to try to trick Google rather than just noise. Google can tell signal from noise with well-known methods, but I don't think they'll be effective when there's two or more signals simultaneously.
@LoganM needs to be something easy to do with C# as I wont do it manually for every input not break my head tinkering some monster algo to trick google :P as this is just something for us to have fun here
@Prix Isn't it just taking a copy of the identicon and copying over some regions from the source image? Not sure if that's easy to do in C#, but it's certainly something I'd expect to be easy to do in any language that you'd want to use for image processing in the first place.

@Eric Just keep in mind Area 51 is a bottomless pit. You can keep going deeper as much as you want, especially if you have special tools like Wayback Machine. I've done quite a bit of exploring myself. But you won't find much more useful stuff there. At some point you're better off just leaving and going somewhere else--really pretty much anywhere else.
Proposal: Stack Overflow Academy
To be successful, I think that this proposal should allow to mentoring in asking questions on any Stack Exchange site and be renamed to "Stack Exchange Academy". We could use tags for separating questions about specific Stack Exchange site.
Despite not having posted an answer in months, my involvement on SO is enough to not be "over there" anymore. In fact, being on SE at all puts me close enough that it concerns me. You never know when something like that site-wide thing is going to become advocated.
If the guys in charge ever became that stupid, I'd probably just leave. Luckily it seems that the predominant viewpoint among SE folks is that the sites should be mostly separate sites which just happen to use the same platform.
I have no interest in a network where Q&A about research level mathematics, anime, programming, cooking, and sports all are expected to follow the same policies and rules. Each of those different communities has very different needs, and it's frankly idiotic to expect what works for one to work for others without modification.
That's also a big part of the reason why I try to avoid Meta SE. It's a site that, by design, is trying to unify SE. That's not something I can get behind at all. In terms of Q&A about the platform, it's fine, but the whole "Stack Exchange spirit" ideology makes me nauseous.

@LoganM I agree. I think it's better for bug reports, feature requests, and that kind of thing. Actual questions about the things in common between the sites. But the cultures of each community are just too different to be united ideologically.
