I was thinking recently about a community wiki we could have. I was thinking we could do a Glossary of Chords similar to the Glossary of Guitar Effects except limit it to one post. In it we can include the intervals needed to make the chord, common notation of the chord, sample spelling (probably with C as a root), and other basic information about them. Thoughts on the idea?

@Dom Personally I think it would be really useful. Slightly outside usual SE structure, but I think the community generally agrees Music needs to be treated slightly differently.

Dom
@RoryAlsop Yeah. I also like the idea of making more internal references rather then external references so if someone has a question about a chord that is covered there someone can answer it and point them there if they want more information about chords.

Agreed.
In other news - I have been comparing our stats with various other sites in beta, and we are in a very good place right now. If there is a queue for graduation, we must be pretty close to the front, based on our statistics and growth curve.

Dom
@RoryAlsop That's awsome

I basically went through a bunch of the Area51 beta sites and then looked across those that had graduated over the past six months
We must be close

I wonder what sites are in the queue.

That is probably not going to be shared with mods

Dom
Understood.

(I'd love to see it though)

Dom
@RoryAlsop I would too.

@ReinaldyRafli What's up?

@Dom I surprised that you said that, though
@Dom maybe ask first in the meta about everyone's perspective about that
I wonder why @NReilingh is always idle all the time

Dom
@ReinaldyRafli I probably will eventually. Right now I'm just trying to get a feel on how everyone feels about it.

@Dom if it'll be one type of chord per answer, the major and minor will be.. complicated

Dom
@ReinaldyRafli He might be logging in on a computer that is still running. I know that happens to me sometimes

Because when you add answer: Major, and you have Maj7, or dominant 7, or Maj13 and friends, it'll be a long answer
Or should the Maj7 is separate answer with Major..
That's good question, but I'm not too sure.

@ReinaldyRafli I think it should be one answer post that gets edited. There is a decent number of chords, but most are just alterations that don't need to be fully explained.
Like a C7b5 is just a C7 with a b5th
And the best part of making it a Community Wiki it will be able to have input from anyone not just the original poster.

@ReinaldyRafli I don't know! I'm not sure how or when chat sessions time out if I log on and then close a window, but it's entirely possible that I have a window open on some computer somewhere.
Recently I've been far too busy to spend much time in chat, but I always keep an eye out for pings.

Hello, @JohanLarsson!

Actually, @Dom you should post it.

6:13 PM
@Dom alright, I asked it

Q: Should we make glossary of chord question as community wiki?

seseorangIt came up on chat by @Dom. I came up here for just asking you guys your opinions, is it good idea or not. I was thinking recently about a community wiki we could have. I was thinking we could do a Glossary of Chords similar to the Glossary of Guitar Effects except limit it to one post. In ...
