@SQB what part of the spine can the child reach with the elbow? The part between the shoulder blades - obviously not. Kidney area - likely: I am nearly 40 and can almost touch my elbow to that part of my spine.

@TorbenGundtofte-Bruun Between your shoulder blades would be physically impossible, like kissing your own elbow.
But define 'almost'. He can comfortably rest his elbow on his spine.

@SQB I'll ask my 4yo after work and let you know :-)

I'll make it a question, so you can answer.

@SQB quit messing with my mind :-)
At age 1½, my brother and I swapped cribs by ourselves and our parents noticed that we had swapped. I can't say for certain that they noticed every time, or that we fooled them an equal number of times, so you could argue there's a chance I'm actually not me.
If I'm not me, then I'm damn good at being my twin!
We like to greet each other on the phone saying "Baaaaah!" like a sheep, in reference to Dolly the cloned sheep :-p
(The actual word is "mæh" because we're speaking Danish)
I'm sure every twin has contemplated the possibility of a mix-up. But honestly, if it hasn't been discovered by now, it won't ever. So I'm good either way.

@TorbenGundtofte-Bruun I'm Dutch, I'd say "meh" without the fancy ash.

@balancedmama and @KarlBielefeldt (and anyone else who wants to chime in): Thoughts on this question?

Q: anyone know a zoo/farm in Queens for a toddler?

user6876I want to take my daughter over spring break to a zoo or farm. I think she is ready for it. She knows the names of the animals and likes to touch everything. I would take her alone, without her younger sibling. This would of course be a treat for her. I do not have a car so it needs to be in quee...

I'm not a big fan of the whole "too localized" concept, and Queens is a pretty large population, but that's not the only problem I see with this question.
It doesn't feel like a good fit for us. Perhaps we should ask the travel.se mods if they'd like it?

1:37 PM
@Beofett That @bal actually showed up on my "responses" list. :-)
I think it is a little "localized" but perhaps Queens (and the surrounding area) is populated enough it isn't.
The grammar is a little choppy - but not terrible.

@Beofett I vote to see if travel wants it. It's too much of a where question, and this site is supposed to be "why" and "how."

It is illadvised to let a child "touch everything?"

@balancedmama My enter key is too sensitive :)

@Beofett I just thought it was funny.

@KarlBielefeldt Yes, that's a big part of my concern. "Where is a fun vacation spot?" doesn't feel like it's really a parenting question....

1:40 PM
So I don't know what the touch everything comment is about . . . I'll go either way.
@Beofett That's a good point.

I can't imagine that there's a ton of zoos in Queens, as big as Queens is... so it doesn't seem like answers will be particularly interesting.

Karl's idea is a good one.

I suspect there are even fewer farms....

farms? That would be amazing :-)
Alright - off and running to my little one and three-year-old charges. Big day for the three year old - first day of Preschool with me! Formal lessons and all.
If travel wants it, I'll be it'll need a little editing first.

@balancedmama Good luck! :)

1:43 PM
Thanks.
Once upon a time I did it with ten, one three year old and his infant little brother - could be tough, but. . .

Shall I ask the travel mods in TL if they want it?

@Beofett Yep. Worst they can say is no.

SQB
@balancedmama Isn't that just referring to a petting zoo?

@SQB That's how I took it. Too bad the answer suggested in a comment doesn't have a petting zoo

SQB
I know my boys would live in the barn with the sheep and goats if I let them.
Now if we had our own barn...

1:48 PM
@SQB that would help :)
We've got a variety of farm shows and county fairs out here that give us plenty of opportunities for kids to chase sheep and goats in safety :)
(we live in farm country, so its only natural)
My son's favorites seem to be the baby chicks (you can watch them hatch), and the rabbits (they have a bunch of docile ones that the kids can hold while supervised). My favorites, though, are the alpacas.

@KarlBielefeldt and @balancedmama the response I got was that the question would need significant improvements before it would be welcome on travel. I've closed, and left a comment asking for improvements.

@SQB Probably, but even then, there are "safe ways" to touch and the way it is just thrown out there, gave me pause.
@Beofett Cool.
