Q: I'm trying to find a video - Where should I look?

user244125I was told to try asking here by the good people who responded to my question on Meta Stack Exchange: I'm looking for somewhere, anywhere, that would let me view and or purchase the full taping of the September 20th, 1973 tennis match between Billy Jean King and Bobby Riggs, also known as "The B...

Q: How can I practice to get my squash shots closer to the wall?

GagravarrWhen playing squash, sometimes I can get my forehand and backhand shots to go straight and close to the wall. Other times, I get the timing slightly off, and they either go away from the wall, or bounce off it on their way to the front. Either way, they end up more towards the middle of the court...

Q: Site needs an "advice" tag

Don LarynxI want to ask a question highly related to my path with sports; here it is: Am I too old to start playing soccer? I have everything a soccer player has because I have ran and weightlifted my whole life; however, I have only been practicing ball control for a few hours a day by juggling and ru...

Q: Starting up 11 a side football team - Sunday League

user2151740I have started up a football team. I just wanted to get some answers in terms of running costs and so forth. I know the prices of the kits they would cost around 300 pounds and the league fees. I wanted to ask some experienced people in terms of knowing what the cost is off: Booking a pitch (We...

@edmastermind29 No problem, I saw you placed a bounty on my question with your own rep, so thanks for that :) It went well. We took a big guy who can dribble, score and rebound in the first round, then went with a short guy who is a great ball-handler. Then we went for average height hustle guys.
Could have had one of the tallest players in the league, but he got picked just one pick before mine, but it doesn't matter, now we just gotta do good coaching (ie: Brad Stevens and Celtics)

user46190
@AGirlSaidMySmileIsCute No problem. I don't mind giving bounties on questions that deserve attention (this question had 0 upvotes before my bounty...but no answers: sports.stackexchange.com/questions/3417/…) for some content.

user46190
@AGirlSaidMySmileIsCute I think you drafted well, and really what the rest of the teams would have to work with as well. One or two performers from the average group really makes the difference. at least you're not phil jax dealing with mj pippen or shaq kobe.

Yeah, I watched some videos of these guys and the two hustle guys literally go after everything and are aggressive. So I am happy about that.

user46190
@AGirlSaidMySmileIsCute Cool. Please keep us posted. I'm interested in the outcome. (And interested in participating in a league like this, lol).

@edmastermind29 I played in that league for a couple of years until I graduated out of high school (only goes up till 12th grade). So I know the intensity it attracts. Now I'm gonna be coaching. This is going to be fun!

user46190
6:30 PM
@AGirlSaidMySmileIsCute i'd imagine. that age group is more competitive. i played in a league when i was in grade school, and i wouldn't want to coach that expecting anything super competitive.

Q: Professional American Football Kickoff rule concerning onside kick

PeterCoulterTeam A is still down by two points with less than one minute remaining in the game and they are kicking off to team B after just scoring a touchdown. Team B realizes they are going to try an onside kick and at last minute brings their return man up right behind their first line of defense-men. As...

7:33 PM
@StackExchange The baseball rulebook spoils me, it's shorter, but far more detailed than the football book
A case like this would be identified and clarified in the baseball book, it's completely ignored in the football one.

user46190
7:55 PM
@waxeagle i'd have to agree

user46190
@waxeagle have you checked the case book?

@edmastermind29 not yet, but my initial search of the entire document doesn't turn up a case of on side kick or fair-catch in the casebook section of the doc

user46190
@waxeagle interesting

@edmastermind29 not sure the casebook actually came up, I thought I had grabbed a combo doc, pulled the 2012 casebook, I'll report back momentarily

user46190
@waxeagle okay. i know there is a rule book...then a case book to supplement

8:02 PM
@edmastermind29 yeah, the case book supplement does have something about fair catch with an onside kick combined, looking now
> A.R. 10.8
INVALID SIGNAL

KICKOFF HITS GROUND
On an onside kick from the A35, A1 “tops” the ball causing it to go down into the ground and then bounce high in the air to the A46 where it comes down to waiting B1. B1 signals for a fair catch, but just before B1 catches the ball, A2 blocks him aside
and the ball hits the ground and is recovered by B3 at the A45.
Ruling:
B’s ball, first-and-10 on B49. Invalid fair-catch signal as the ball had hit the ground, so the action by A2 was legal. Spot enforcement
@mmyers that might help your answer ^
if the ball hits the ground and then a fair catch is called for it it's a 5 yard penalty in the NFL if he is interfered with

user46190
@waxeagle i figured you couldn't call a fair catch if the ball hits the ground

I'm confused
that if you give an invalid fair catch signal
the invalid signal is the 5 yard penalty
on the receiving team

user46190
@waxeagle and if the kicking team recovers?

@edmastermind29 I don't think there's a penalty as there was no fair catch signal (it was an invalid signal)
A.R. 10.33
INTERFERENCE WITH OPPORTUNITY

KICKOFF
On a kickoff from the A35, A1 leaps from the A44 and catches the ball on the A46, prior to the ball being touched by anyone. B1 could have caught the ball at the A46. Ruling:
B’s ball, first-and-10 on A31. Interference with the opportunity to make a catch.
NOTE:
If the ball was kicked down into the ground as it came off the tee, there would be no fair-catch interference, since the ball would have already touched the ground.

no wait, it's invalid because he can't call a fair catch on a grounded ball

user46190
8:11 PM
@waxeagle right...

Ok I think I'm more clarified, I was confused for a minute there.
I thought for a second that the receiving team had given an invalid signal, but no, the signal itself is invalidated because the ball hit the ground. That makes more sense.

user46190
@waxeagle yup. but if the signal is made if the ball hits the ground, 5 yd penalty.

the second ruling indicates that if a fair catch is called for on a pooch kick and the kicking team intercepts it then they've basically downed it like a punt.
and I think there's a penalty there too

user46190
@waxeagle ahh

15 yarder

8:38 PM
@waxeagle Ah, thanks. I tried to download the casebook but my network blocked NFL.com's javascript

@mmyers no prob

8:55 PM
I just read a column about the Cowboys game yesterday that I can barely believe was written in good faith.
I'm tempted to write a fake column about how Tom Brady always comes apart at the most critical moments.

user46190
@mmyers 2 game ending INTs this season?

He'll never win the big one, that's for sure

people always blow things in Dallas out of proportion...that's just sort of life

Now Eli Manning, there's an example of a great quarterback. Does he fold under the biggest spotlight? He does not.

user46190
@mmyers he just has to stumble into the playoffs first

8:57 PM
wait, you wilt under a spotlight and fold under pressure. Point still stands

9:29 PM
Is the ESPN league going to have that spider looking layout now with the after season games?

Playoffs? Playoffs? You talking about playoffs?

More like play them out, amiright?

I think we're in the playoffs..

Until tonight, when we're out of the playoffs
Thanks, Jamaal Charles

9:46 PM
@mmyers There's another two week set for everyone though :)
even if you can't win, you get to play again next week...

Yep. My opponent and I appear to be well clear of the rest of the league in this round, so I expect to make a good run at third
