Lubuntu is pretty lightweight, so it gives eclipse etc more RAM and CPU resources. :)

have u tried kubuntu??

@cyberrog doesn't really matter unless your hardware is an issue; you'll be using the same eclipse and any program you fancy from kde/gdm you can use in gdm/kde.
it's just a matter of taste :D

@cyberrog Yes I have tried Kubuntu. I didn't like it because I don't like KDE. However, it's personal preference. :)

I dont know. Ive read in many places that KDE is better for work than GNOME
KDE looks so much with windows right?
3

@JamesGifford I agree with James... I do not like the look of kde either

8:02 PM
@cyberrog it has similarities, but gnome could be made to look like windows
The only way you're ever going to find out if you should use KDE is to try it out
None of us can really tell you - with much certainty - if you're going to like it

@cyberrog I've seen gnome turned into looking like win xp or mac OS.
stop starring me you you chatter >:D

im testing it here and it looks good
i like its interface. its based on QT

@Rinzwind :S

i liked its interface so much

@JamesGifford oh it was you? then it's ok >:D LOL

8:06 PM
@Rinzwind ehehe. ;)

all off the ubuntus family are developed by whom?
one thing. Ubuntu LTS has its support for 3 years, i guess. What about kubuntu, it has it too? And the software center. And many programs that run in ubuntu, also run in kubuntu right?

@JorgeCastro Read the first part of this one - askubuntu.com/questions/6833/… - ring a bell with what you said at UDS?! ;)
"When I had 10.04 I messed around with the boot image using a tutorial online to boot with the 800x600 ubuntu boot logo. However after upgrading to 10.10, I now just get "Ubuntu 10.10" in text and no pretty logo"

yeah
there was a recent one too
where the guy was like "I followed this guide"
and it was some content farm guide

but yeah, that's a dupe!

8:15 PM
what you talking about???

(sighs How many times are we going to have to link to that in the chat? lol)

@JorgeCastro is that a thinkpad?

Bad sign that I've more or less memorized that speech? :P

@JamesGifford more than once :D

@Rinzwind Agreed there

8:19 PM
@JamesGifford As many times as it takes

@MarcoCeppi :D

@JamesGifford nooooo :D means you are a true Jorge follower >:D

@Rinzwind Is the founding member of the cult of Jorge ;)

(JOKING JOKING)

never joke with Jorge >:D

wants Jorge's job in 5 years

8:25 PM
you do realize you should have put the joking on the same line? >:D looks at starred comments

I did. >:D
eyeroll Instead of reading Ubuntu server documentation, I'm marking stuff as dupes. Dream Sunday Afternoon

@cyberrog yeah that's the new X120e

I am borrowing a friend's T410

needs a long sleep after last night

@RolandTaylor Sending you a file on jabber.

What is this Cult-Of-Jorge-Castro? (All hail storm)!

8:35 PM
@RolandTaylor ....
;)

We of the cult of Marco Ceppi will rage war on these protracting infidels who have defected from our faith D:!
2
jk...
Bow to me. NAO.

wait
we have 2 cults now?

@Rinzwind Appears to be that way

oh oh
are they subsets of the cult of ubuntu?

3... cults...
mine is a movement

8:40 PM
@RolandTaylor Eh. Close enough

And we are not a subcult of anything!
wait a second...
BOW...
lick... the ground! NOW!!!
(I'm not your lord, I'm just tall and imposing, but bow anyway cause it's funny to watch you grovel >:)).

@RolandTaylor um....

and he's got such a friendly looking avatar :D

Oh sorry, I got carried away :)...
still bow

This is why I have my bio as this:

"An outlaw among outlaws. A renegade among radicals."

;)

8:44 PM
@JamesGifford XD

@MarcoCeppi ok if you're in the mood for another SQL to look for
"Unanswered questions in 11.04, sorted by either age or low views. This would help us find the too localized bug report ones."
or
"Questions where the OP responds to their own question but doesn't have an accepted answer. "I ended up solving this by doing foo and bar"

@JorgeCastro that would be wonderful.

I'll give the first one a stab

ok I'm going to rejig the clean up meta question

8:47 PM
@RolandTaylor yeah but I can't sort that by date

But it's a start.

yeah :P

DoR
Was this question merged with another similar question?

@DoR I think it was.

DoR

Q: What should I do when Ubuntu freezes?

ændrükAll operating systems freeze sometimes, and Ubuntu is no exception. What should I do to regain control when... just one program stops responding? nothing at all responds to mouse clicks or key presses? the mouse stops moving entirely? In what order should I try various solutions before decidi...

@RolandTaylor HIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIiiiii!

DoR
Ok, that explains the Necromancer badge I just got :P

@MarcoCeppi Can you limit your queries to only open questions?
That'd be nice.
@DoR :P Congrats?

@TheX HIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII

@JamesGifford That's what I'm doing :)

8:50 PM
aww man... brb\

@MarcoCeppi w000t!

@TheX :D
@DoR gratz :D :D now you may eat other humans

back

Okay, try this query @JorgeCastro: data.stackexchange.com/ubuntu/s/1454/…

8:56 PM
@MarcoCeppi some of these are answered

@MarcoCeppi the 1st 3 give a "page not found"

@Rinzwind Sorry, those are either deleted or gone
I'll add some additional criteria to the query

maybe

@RolandTaylor whats up? long time no see? I was out of town for four days...

unanswered and/or any answers with less than 2 upvotes?

8:58 PM
@TheX well, I changed our theme...

@JorgeCastro If it was accepted with the last month I can't help that :P

and... I'm tired beyond belief...

@JorgeCastro You want to start at the top or bottom?

@JamesGifford Hold on, refining the query

8:58 PM
@MarcoCeppi OK

@RolandTaylor it must have been hard work and all to change our theme :P if you are tired beyound belief

@TheX lol nah :D
I had to work hard last night on something else
finding the right theme was tiring though :P

@JorgeCastro That will be a little more difficult - I can do it, it'll just take me longer

well, whatever you think will return the best results

I'll give you the lowest scored 11.04 questions for now, let you chew on that while I do low scored unanswered by ways of unanswered metrics

9:01 PM
OK

@MarcoCeppi Sweet

I'll try the other one

@MarcoCeppi I'm just looking at dates, and then making a gut decision to kill if it's pre-release.
Bad idea?

9:08 PM
even if the questions aren't good deletion candidates it's edit city with some of them!

True!!

I need a better password :D

@Rinzwind uh... yeah now that we all know your password now...

9:27 PM
oh you can have my password ;) it's not like you'll be able to get onto my box :D :D

in any case I don't worry about stuff like that...

@Rinzwind I already did... I let pandora out

sigh what should I eat tomorrow?
yesterday brussels sprouts where possibly the cause for e-hec

9:43 PM
:>

9:54 PM
@JorgeCastro Without further adieu

to employ that gpu stuff, one has to have a password hash

@MarcoCeppi Yay!

and that you don't get without some kind of access
so i'm not to worried
that is for the security of my home machines

@karthick87 I've updated the squid question with a method to confirm that it's working

what the hell... i just opened 'sound' from 'applications' and my desktop got overrun by "welcome to orca" popups :D
100s of popups :D :D
unlike windows where it would crash :D unity just kept working (I could open shutter and make a screenshot) and could use log out :D

10:05 PM
@JamesGifford heh, our voting and maintenance has caused a bunch of necromancer badges

@JorgeCastro You noticed huh? :D

10:18 PM
:( I can't seem to get compiz's grid plugin to draw outlines :(

Would it be correct to flag the answer I've got when my keys stopped working afterwards? @jorgeCastro @stefanoPalazzo @MarcoCeppi
flag for being dangerous!

A: How to stream music over the network to multiple computers?

djeikybThis guy comes up with a sweet looking VLC solution: http://biozshock.blogspot.com/2010/01/audio-output-streaming-on-ubuntu-linux.html I haven't tried it yet, but if/when I do, I'll come back and edit my post with the details. Or someone else can turn this into a community wiki and flesh it out.

is there any way to get around restoring that empty space???
I just want partclone to restore the data that it backed up only O_o
I tried to DD the partcloned img file but then my gparted wont recognize the ext3 formatting
is there any way to tell partclone to restore the img file ALL EXCEPT the empty space?
