@cyberrog doesn't really matter unless your hardware is an issue; you'll be using the same eclipse and any program you fancy from kde/gdm you can use in gdm/kde.
one thing. Ubuntu LTS has its support for 3 years, i guess. What about kubuntu, it has it too? And the software center. And many programs that run in ubuntu, also run in kubuntu right?
