Q: Are there remote sensing experts who attend this community?

sepidehRegarding this discussion that took place about 1 year ago and considering all the comments, I want to have a similar discussion here since Space Exploration is a community related to remote sensing because remote sensing uses the data provided by satellites and other instruments in its studies. ...

Crew News Conference on the 15th Anniversary of the Start of Human Occupancy of the Space Station is now webcast live on NASA TV
@SpaceExplorationMeta bam! nuked as off topic which it is and whoever thought it's a good idea advertising for new proposed sites on beta ones that still struggle to maintain a healthy community on their own is beyond me
if we were accused of spamming on electronics.se for posting our ad in their community ads thread on which that community either votes it up or don't and no harm done, then this is at least equally bad if not worse
and posted by someone that's a member here from today
come back when we graduate :P

@TildalWave what would be the thing to do in such a case, if you're trying to start a new site?

@kimholder well the A51 is the place for that
I've noticed more of such spam in other site meta's and chat rooms, most often by previously unknown members there

i can see how it would seem pretty useful to reach out to people who are already active on SE and are likely to have knowledge of the area. not cool in chat either? even if it's a new site about unicorns?

I don't recall anyone spamming anyone with space.se when it was still on A51, tho it might have been mentioned by otherwise active participants in some chats
@kimholder you can advertise any new site here as far as I'm concerned, equally goes for anyone else otherwise engaged here

so the drive-by advertising is your main issue?

4:51 PM
yes

@XKCD At a glance, I thought that first panel said "historic sausage"

Q: Are people in this community interested in having a new site for other Geospatial technologies?

sepidehRegarding this discussion that took place about 1 year ago and considering all the comments, I want to have a similar discussion here which is the closest community to RS. I think that remote sensing cannot be covered with GIS + Earth science and I have given some reasons here, here and here If y...

we're not the first site to be spammed by that

Q: Are there remote sensing experts who attend this community?

I'm not gonna post all of them

OK I don't wanna sound prejudicious but that member says in the profile he/she is from Iran and is trying to start a new remote sensing community on SE, one proposal of which has already been nuked before on A51? And we're spending time discussing it? I'd rather talk about what color should candy floss be ... :P

@TildalWave bright pink, and only bright pink
interesting, i've never gotten much besides the careers ads on any site. but the list of acceptable community ads, now i see how maybe moonwards would be accepted.
my scheming here never really was about that angle.

@kimholder placing it in community promotion ads is kinda different in that if the community doesn't support it, it won't rotate as it won't get enough votes to be there
let's say it's more spam tolerant
plus, that's only available for already graduated sites for which it's presumed they don't struggle to maintain a healthy community of their own

yeah, it's a good system.
i actually wouldn't be comfortable with advertising here if members didn't decide the ad was relevant.

well it wouldn't be a competition to this site so that's a lot different
remote sensing on the other hand is already covered by multiple SE sites, including graduated ones
depends what specifically about remote sensing one wants to know about, but most of it would already be within the scope of at least a couple of SE sites, if not more

5:17 PM
yes, i noticed that

5:33 PM
For some things I like that there can be more than one relevant SE site.

it's true, there are many angles on a lot of things

What new angle does remote sensing need? Even already existing expert groups subdivide to more specialist fields. ESA just had a couple of workshops. That would be on scope here. Or Earth Science. NOAA similar. Weather is again already covered on multiple sites,... as is any other individual science one wants to do with remote sensing, or technology one wants to use to achieve it

I wasn't commenting in support of a new site for it. I was just commenting. :P

Anyway, meta post was nuked by CM
> sepideh, We don't actually allow promotion of Area 51 proposals in meta (or the main site) at all. There are rare exceptions — like calling into question if the proposed subject is better off on that site — but with so many proposals vying for attention, allowing each one to start soliciting support on the sites became unworkable pretty fast
remote sense > remote sensing :))
:P
@duzzy so was I :P
there wasn't any discussion if that's even on-topic in our meta, it isn't and I put it on hold as soon as I saw it ... it's still interesting enough to discuss here if a site like that even stands a chance or is needed / warranted / ...

5:54 PM
Well, I don't think I've ever seen anything being off topic here. :P

In chat? That's different. We're all active members of this community here, so if we want to discuss which apples taste the best, then that's what activities our community engages in. That meta post wasn't.

(royal gala. i'm sorry, i just can't resist..)
(mcintosh suck)

I love McIntosh and some of our local varieties
@kimholder :P

I like braeburns
but I prefer oranges.

wait, i checked - actually i meant red delicious. what an ironic name. really don't like them.
but i don't like most apples.

6:01 PM
Yeah, I don't like red delicious as much.
I do like most apples. :P
In fact, I'll eat red delicious, they're just not as good.
They always seem mushy.

@kimholder ah yeah that I get, because what you said before doesn't make much sense, that you like royal gala but dislike mcintosh , they're kinda really similar while red delicious is actually pretty bland

Ugh, Red Delicious are terrible
Honeycrisp are the best

not sure I know those but they look like fuji apples and those are pretty good

6:40 PM
it seems based on a consensus among 4 that red 'delicious' is a clear case of false advertising.
@TildalWave i actually like royal gala, or fuji as well, much more than mcintosh
and all apples are far better with good cheese

That's so strange. I've never understood mixing apples and cheese.

really? it's the best
even with apple pie

7:16 PM
Apples with caramel, on the other hand...
Mmmm
Or LadyWacko's sister makes some sort of dip that is delicious

@StackExchange I was trying to name all 15 pressurized modules:
Zarya, Zvezda, Pirs, Poisk, Rassvet, Unity (Node1), Destiny (lab), Harmony (node 2), Tranquility (Node 3), Kibo (JAXA), Columbus (ESA), Quest airlock, MPLM, module on top of Kibo (not CAM, forget its name).
That is 14. What did I miss?
Cupula? Not really countable I would think?
I think counting Quest is even a stretch. But if you count the Cupula, then you might as well count the two exposed PMA's (2 and 3) and maybe even PMA 1.
JAXA Exposed Facility should NOT count.
