I thought I might bring this to the attention of the people using this room. It is discussion on meta.MSE, but since it concerns MO, insight from MO-people would probably be more than welcome.

Q: Cross posting, or flag for migration?

Asaf KaragilaNow that MathOverflow is within a flag for moderator away, comes the question. Suppose that you post a question on MSE, and it's a good question and you get some positive feedback. However nothing remotely close to an answer has come by. Until a few weeks ago, the standard course of action was ...

question people
Is it possible that a decision problem can NOT be solved in polynomial time on one computer, but can be solved in polynomial time on a faster computer?
my answer is NO
because NP complete hard problems are problems of SPACE
though its length may not be computed in a given time
given an input K
for example K-colouring
through if the input is defined then it is polynomial
but the speed of the computer can not define whether it can be solved
is this correct?

@MartinSleziak this is old, is there some motivation this comes up now? I might say something but would like to avoid to wade into some complicated situation thus the question.

@quid I was thinking about migrating my question to MO. (But I will give it some time on MSE first. Only if I do not receive any satisfying answer there.) That's why I was looking whether there is some advice on meta, what is the most appropriate to do in such cases.
That's why I have seen that thread after some time. It seems to me, that it does not lean either way; there are arguments both for migration and for cross-posting. (Personally, I would prefer migration in my case.)
And that's why I have mentioned it also here - just in case people who are active here (in this chatroom) have not seen that question back then.

@MartinSleziak thanks for the details. Personally I am not a big fan of migration anymore in general. For you particular case (if it is about the q with the bounty): I would not migrate it, but instead ask a more concise version on MO.
If you post as is you run a risk of some seeing a proof and react negetaovely to this, since they mistake the question for a request to check the proof. (Not everybody looks too carefully what is and is not ask.) In brief, it is too long, perhaps one could say it is too research-level
Also undersatement, modesty, and being selfcritical (while good) are most of the time not helpful on MO. Leave the first two paragraphs and some other things away and just ask if the spaces have a name and if they appear in the literature and give a brief motivation and some references, and give the math.SE question as background.
Users here are busy, no time to read long questions. Especially not if OP states themselves reasons to stop and dismiss in the first paragraph. :-)
Now this might not be optimal for a research site. But still I think it is like this. Better avoid falling in such traps. Sorry for giving such lengthy and unasked advice.

@quid Thanks for the time you took to look at my question. I will wait until the bounty expires and then I will try to make a shorter version of the question, based on your suggestions.

@MartinSleziak your are welcome. Good luck with the question!

Thanks!
