@Hosch250 Great

I'm not sure what I'm looking at though
What are menuXX?
They're called "menus" but they're added to "items"

Those are the menus. I did not include the submenus because I that is already posted in a different question.
Well, the submenus are added there too, because I don't have TreeView at my disposal.

Maybe I should link that?

Q: Faster way of using interp1d in 2D array

simenThe results are correct. But in my real problem, the data are too large, so I want to directly apply interpolation with out using for loop. Any ideas would be appreciated. import numpy as np from scipy.interpolate import interp1d data = np.array([[99,0,3,4,5], [6,7,0,9,10], ...

12:13 AM
@Hosch250: what does Data.NewSelectionP(Items.SelectedValue.ToString()); do?

That sends a command to the VM about a new selection.
If a new menu is selected, the VM calls a method to remove submenus from the other menu and insert submenus for the selected menu.
That is under reconstruction too.
Those three methods are different for each version of OneNote to keep things separate.
They could be grouped into one, but that would make maintenance more difficult.

They are very similar.

I assume that NewSelectionX() method checks the value of the incoming parameter and hardcodes what menus should be displayed based on that value?

Yes.
I don't like any of this, but the data needs to be somewhere.

12:23 AM
Why don't you just let each page hold its own subtrees?
Instead of storing them globally and then delegating

Not sure how I'd do that.

Well, what happens when you make a selection?
Are you moved to another page?
Or do you change information in the current page?

I just change the information.
I'll post a screenshot if you like.
I have one layout, and everything just updates.

ah, I see
yeah, not much to do about it then

It is actually simplest to do it like this too.
This way, I only have to maintain MainPage.xaml, and any new content/tutorials have no app data.
When I make a new page, I just update the values in GlobalVars.cs, and everything else is handled.
When I make a new menu, I need to change a mite in the ViewModel too, but submenus only need updates in GlobalVars.

Q: On the intended use of the [beginner] tag?

LegatoThis could be due to my blanket novice status, but I find myself using this tag quite regularly; practically associating it with use of the site itself. The tag description specifies its inclusion in the case of being 'new to the language' but is it also appropriate if: You're using some unfam...

A: Correct MVVM format

Jeroen VannevelYou're declaring your viewmodel as public static. This indicates encapsulation abuse because a single viewmodel instance should be tied to a single page. In fact, you often want a specific viewmodel for every page (where appropriate) so there isn't that much re-use of the viewmodels in the first ...

1:05 AM
@Gemtastic 6. I have 6 "golden fishes" now.

Hey @fredsbendtheGrinch

What's up?

Hello everyone

Hello @Phoenix

@JeroenVannevel Thanks. I only have one VM, should I have one for item selection, one for history (forward/back buttons), etc?

1:07 AM
euhm

@fredsbendtheGrinch Not much, what is the good word today?

a VM is about displaying stuff on a single page

I noticed that a random SE user posted on your meta on C.SE and thought there must be a connection. So I Sherlocked around and found the chat discussion from before.

one page, one viewmodel

OK, that is what I have.

1:08 AM
I figure Rubber Duck read it too.

But I have a ton of stuff in there.

@Phrancis Have you read it yet?

I'm not done with your answer yet - it is huge.

@fredsbendtheGrinch Our meta or Christianity's?

I think I just found a winner for the worst API ever created award...

1:08 AM
C.SE is Christianity.se
I know, a bit ambiguous.

@fredsbendtheGrinch I feel ya. I felt RubberDuck's answer was sensible. But yes, he's a regular here. Didn't mean to start a conflict or anything.
We can start a private room if you want to get deeper into it

No conflict. The problem is that your original post was simply off-topic, and in all honesty I was trying to get a hat.
@Phrancis Only if you really want to.

Not really

I wouldn't want you to not visit C.se because you think we're a bunch of jerks.

Hats do that ;)

1:11 AM
Yeah.

I'm sure I'll come back on C.SE no hard feelings

@fredsbendtheGrinch Congrats!
But they are golden Jesus fish. Not normal fish! ;P

@Phrancis Cool. I didn't get this from your original post chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/19313530#19313530
It seems to me that you were criticizing the belief that God is highly involved in our lives. Not the urge to proselytize.
Sorry I missed that.

I was a bit upset for a while, but I got over it

Yeah, I've had my share of SE frustrations.

1:16 AM
@fredsbendtheGrinch All good. The former part [of this chat message] I was curious about as well, but mostly the latter

Even been flagged a few times in chat.

Q: After i sort my code, my problem is to remove punctuation marks

Razer_qwertymy problem is how to remove puctuation marks in sorting a sentence. I only use simple codes. Here is my code: import java.util.Scanner; import java.util.Arrays; public static void main(String[] args) { Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in); String sentence; System.out.print("Ente...

@Gemtastic Knowledge is power: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ichthys

@fredsbendtheGrinch "Ichthys as adopted as a Christian symbol."
So for all that matters, it's a Jesus fish. :P
But enough about that :P

@Gemtastic ^that

1:18 AM
Second.

@fredsbendtheGrinch I really appreciate you reaching out and looking into this

No biggie.

Sometimes venturing into a new Stack can be a bit ... uncertain

I guess. I think if you just neglect the small differences you'll find they are all about the same.

If you just neglect the Help Center, I guess they are about the same :)

1:23 AM
lol

@fredsbendtheGrinch Must step away now, glad to have gotten to talk to you :)

Cool. I should be doing other stuff too.
@Phrancis If you don't mind, I'd like to hear why you abandoned Christianity (obviously in another room). I'm not going to convince you to go back. I've recently left it too and I'm personally interested in why people leave their religion, atm. chat.stackexchange.com/rooms/19909/…

1:44 AM
@JeroenVannevel Are you still here?

Daddy's still here
Yeah I like the sound of that

I have a question about my VM.

I have a SettingsFlyout, which is a little like a popup.
That accesses my VM too, because I have it bound to the VM so when someone changes the settings, everything changes.
It can't access the VM if it is private. How should I do this?

Yeah, I have had the same issue when developing a windows phone app and windows store app

1:49 AM
That is what this is.

I dislike global state the way you implemented it but you can't really get around global state to solve this

I hate global state too.

the other solution is to create a single object and then passing that around using the OnNavigatedTo handlers
but that's dirty
and will make it harder to pass around actual values

@Hosch250 / @Phrancis - thanks - and we're in for another exciting year, I believe

I solved this by having a single global state object - say, a Session class -
You can take a look here to see how it is used exactly

1:51 AM
@rolfl I'll be back next summer, around the middle of May.

Oh, I missed something?

It's just a singleton that you access everywhere

@rolfl No, college starts in 2 weeks.
So after that...

Right, OK.

@JeroenVannevel I wouldn't might putting my app in a .zip and uploading it for you, if you want to see everything at once.
I'm not pressuring you, though.
Just say no if you don't want to.

1:53 AM
Nah, I wouldn't look at it
I've got exams in 6 days

OK, no problem.

I'll have to get started once Prison Break is finished

I see, hope you do well!

Thanks :) I've got some very annoying economics exams to look forward to
And javascript webapps

So, should I create a Settings class or something and have just that be global?

1:54 AM
not sure which sucks more

What level? I had 2 2xxx level economics.
I liked them.
Then the rest of my VM can be private.

Yeah, I'd do it like that. Possibly grouping it in a Session class so I could add more state-data to it aside from just settings
I haven't come across a better alternative than this yet

My app doesn't have to save any user data besides the three settings, and I use Windows.Storage.ApplicationData.Current.RoamingSettings.Values[""] for that.

Not sure how the levels relate with american classes. There's some stuff about bookkeeping, market positions, price elasticity, etc in there

I had some of that. 3xxx is considered upper level and you have to have several classes of that or higher to get a degree.
1xxx and 2xxx are more generals.

1:57 AM
yeah sure, then you can just have the Settings class. The idea is the same, it just saves stateful data and you can add logic to it.

OK, I'll do that.
And then, about the Menu.
I basically create my Menu with a title, linked page, and a submenu and work from there?
As a class?

Euh
I'm not quite sure what you're asking

And if there is no submenu, I just set the value to null?
I mean, the Menu class.

OK, I see.

1:59 AM
MenuItem?
You don't have to specify and submenus
although you can, actually
either you give each instance of MenuItem a List<MenuItem> when initializing
or you do as I wrote it up: selecting the submenus in GetMenuItems()

OK. I'll do this/
Thanks for the help.

No problem
Back to Prison Break

Enjoy!

2:24 AM
@Phrancis You're welcome.

2:40 AM
Oh wow, I did not know there was a chat room. :) Sorry, out of context just shocked. Never found out till now. Lol.

Hi, @Matt
Just on my way out.
But we're not usually this dead.

Oh, I just came at a bad time this. Thanks for letting me know have a good one @Hosch250

See you!

2:56 AM
Hey guys can I ask a quick question?

You can ask all you want. If someone will answer is another thing ;P
Though mostly, the people here have an answer
They're all pretty swell

Currently sustain a system that generates a 25,000 line of code dll API from database structures
how do you translate this
what i get from it is that the guy supports 25 000 lines of ORM POCOs
it seems to me that he just used a bunch of words randomly

3:13 AM
@Gemtastic so any idea?

Sadly, I'm just a n00b hanging with the cool guys, I don't understand anything more than API and database out of what you said. Well, I know dll is a file type but nothing more :/

@Gemtastic Hehe. Ok thank you anyways :)

But hey, if we leave it here maybe one of the other ones knows how to answer.
You could try a on topic chat on SO otherwise.

Well I am trying out other rooms too. See if I get an answer.

Good luck :)
And most chats don't mind you just throwing your question in there; no need to ask if you may ask ;)

3:22 AM
xD ok

Q: Android: spannablestringbuilder max length?

andyADDOk I am sorry for the horrible title, I did not know how else to put it. I was using spannablestringbuilder to do custom font coloring. Here is the first code snippet protected void onStop() { try{ clientskt.close(); }catch(final Exception ii){ Server....

@Phoenix That is not a complete sentence, but from what I gather, the guy is sustaining some code that generates 25,000 lines of code from database structures through API calls.
Don't base anything off what I think, though.

@Hosch250 Here is the real complete sentence "Currently sustain a system that generates a 25,000 line of code dll API from database structures at my work"
It really sounds fishy like it is just a bunch of random words

I don't know if that is grammatically correct.
That is why it sounds funny.
I think the 25,000 lines is an estimate of what the system generates by querying a database through the API.
.dll files are usually generated by compilers, I think.

or it actually generates 25 000 lines of POCOs :D
I am having a "heated" discussion with a guy that keeps throwing around titles and I am trying to shut him up :D

That is a title?
Tell him to go make sure his titles are grammatically correct at EL&U.
@Matt I'm here again, if you want to talk.
At least, I'm sort of here.

3:54 AM
hi

Hi.

Hey.

Ho.

Huh?

Hoy.

3:55 AM
Wha?

Well?

So?

Because.

What?

What's up?

3:56 AM
Nothing.
One.
Word.
Sentences.

Oh.
I'm writing a class.

Oh.

It is a really good answer.

Wow, that was a conversation full of a whole buncha nothing XD

@Hosch250 Jeroen does that

3:59 AM
I try to do it, but I don't know that much.
