@Mat I figured out why that Glob code was bugging me.
I figured out why it looks weird to me. In any sensible language, the private sub would actually be an private overloaded version. It's fine. It's just vba being stupid again. So I've been debating whether I should stick with PHP, or go with Python, as I need to write an application to work with my database... I found this gem on the Python Wiki:
>PostgreSQL

URL
http://www.postgresql.org/
licence
BSD
platforms
Unix, win32 (NT-based Microsoft operating system)
Pros

From the features page:

Good compliance with SQL standards
Supports many SQL features
Foreign keys
Implements all SQL99 join types: inner join, left, right, full outer join, natural join
Subqueries
UNION and UNION ALL, INTERSECT and EXCEPT
Views
Triggers
Support for international character sets, multibyte character encodings, Unicode
Supports many languages for writing server-side functions/procedures and aggregates: Python, C, Perl, Tcl, PL/PgSQL, ...

@JaDogg I don't. I just happen to need C for this parallel programming class.

ah,

Also, why does **bold** not work inside quote?

@Jamal very hard because I don't really think it deserves it :)

6:29 PM
Socks it is, then! brb

To be fair, I think Python looks like much less of a PITA than PHP. But my only hesitation (perhaps it's irrational) is that I still won't be able to answer much of the endless stream of questions...
Hmm. Maybe I could learn both...
I wonder if there is an API where both are supported... anyone?

@Phrancis Why would you want to answer those? They're in the same no-touch zone as "[Java] Review my linked list" and "[C#] Generic repository EF implementation".

Q: DRY vs Safe programming?

InfinityThe Pragmatic Programmer by Andrew Hunt and David Thomas, page 131 ("How to balance resources") advises to turn this code: void readCustomer(const char *fName, Customer *cRec) { cFile = fopen(fName, "r+"); fread(cRec, sizeof(*cRec), 1, cFile); } void writeCustomer(Customer *cRec) { ...

        Console.WriteLine("ID: ");
        Console.ReadLine();
        return true;
^^^ let's get an ID!!! :-)
